TBs PATAGONIAN RESIDENT Villa Angostura with ash 2-feet deep covering the town from the Volcano Puyehue eruption. Bariloche and Villa Traful also buried, the lake district losing its entire winter tourist and ski season...can't imagine these places like that...not when we were there...reminder how tenuous life is but how strong the human spirit to rebuild. We spent a few days in Los Antiguos that had been wiped out by a volcanic eruption and rebuilt...seeing the families swimming in the lake gave no clue to how quickly it can change. Yet in all your blogs of Patagonia...still some special wilderness places left for me to blog...maybe one day!
Wow I am always so excited to see a blog from you. Not only are you in some of the most beautiful areas I can imagine, you take pictures that bring that beauty alive on my screen. I couldn't rate your panorama shot at the top, but if I could, it would receive a 10 star rating even though we can only give up to 5 stars. Keep traveling, blogging and posting your photos.
Thanks, Brendan, that's so sweet of you to say so. Since you're from CA, maybe you know the CA painter, Maxfield Parrish. That panorama looks just like his work. And hey, maybe we'll meet in Peru in March!
What spectacular photos - showing off the best of Chile - I agree with Dancing Dave, makes me want to head straight there. I also agree with Travel Camel - very brave to launch into the deluge! I guess if it's the only way down though there's only one thing to do!
Mountain refuge With our limited internet time I feel like I am rushing through your wonderful word pictures. Looking forward to a time in the future when we can see and read them at leisure. Amazing photos!
Photos are best I take it as a great compliment that you took the time to check out my photos--they tell the story better than my words. Happy adventures!
Crossing that Bridge You are a far braver person than me to cross a fast flowing river of unknown depth! Would love to see a photo of you carrying the dogs in a recreation of your bold crossing.
Brave or no other option! Thanks, Shane. Believe me, I looked all around for another way out. And yes, I'd also love a photo of us, but it could not be. It was all a bit of a miracle since normally the dogs wouldn't have allowed me to do this, and I'm not sure that I could have carried the terrier. We were lucky!
MORE EVIDENCE Chile is stunning...my most beautiful part of the World...how lucky are you? Makes me want to lease out our house...load our backpacks...and head into the sunset...only problem...I'm not Tara!
Stunning Chile I agree, David, Chile is fantastic, especially those Andes. I'm also a bit tempted right now to head back down to Patagonia (bad girl or being Tara). Yet how lucky are you to have a house to lease and to have all of Asia so close. I guess we're both amazingly lucky!
free as a bird Thanks, so much David! Indeed, I have lived most of my life pretty free as a bird. Almost always worked only part-time, and now as a long-time traveler, I can flutter where the breeze takes me. I love being Tara!
Mick is a philosopher! We always end up where we need to be even if it is not where we thought we were going. The vivid colors are amazing. I love hearing about the herons and the woodpecker. I'm not really a birder but after the trip to Iceland and the Faroe Islands my interest has increased.
Birds and being open Glad you liked the heron and woodpecker! I'm not a birder either, but I think guys like this or like your puffins can open us up to possibilities. Wonder if Mick has a song about unexpected possibilities and openings?
Marti, my dear! Marti, I'm so touched that you found this blog--thanks for rooting around. Though I'm a wanderer, I'll always have a soft spot for our oak-covered hills and island-viewed beaches. Lots of love!
Which photo to comment on? I couldn't choose between the gorgeous waterfalls and artistic clouds. Your last few blogs have had some great photos -- a lot like paint on canvas. Nature is a work of art, isn't it? Also loved one of your earlier blogs on the pup you took care of, so sweet. :)
Waterfalls, clouds and pups Thanks so much for the kind words, Michelle! I'm a bit of a space cadet and love staring at waterfalls and clouds. Oh, to have more than a point and shoot, so I could do clever things with them. Glad you liked me little pup, too. She's so in my heart still.
Colored trees! Thanks, Shane, glad you like those amazing trees, too. For me, they're especially amazing since I don't have them in central California, and maybe you don't either in Brisbane. Oh the joy of traveling!
I´m a one-way ticket, slow traveler, relishing the freedom of the open road and trusting serendipity to guide my journey. When I was younger, I used to travel for a year at a time. Then a few years ago, I roamed Europe and North Africa for three and a half years and liked that even better.
On August 1st, 2010, I left my peaceful Mission Canyon paradise in Santa Barbara's mellow summer and emerged from a couple of planes a day and a world later in the teeming, sub-zero streets of Buenos Aires´winter. Now, with the Andes, Amazon and Galapagos between here and home, will three years be enou... full info
