Well it has been a while since I last offered an opinion on what we have been doing or seen. Time is absolutely flying and I might add at this time, the keyboards I come across can be quite different to use let alone touch type on. My big sis has been very kind and hospitable the entire time we were there in Hassloch. Have you looked up where it is yet????? HINT:- It is in the wine district of lower Germany, near the little sticky out bit of north france, near Strasbourg. We have shopped locally, eaten all manner of pork product from roast pork as we Aussies know it, through to some weird and wonderful smoked deli styles of about 20 plus selections! Then there is the mince varieties, thru to the Gyros(Souvulaki) schwine ... read more

So after a great visit to Berlin including a surprise gift from Claudia of attending the Saturday evening performance, of the theatrical show, Yma, at the Freidrich Platz Theatre. No english required as it was a mix of Russian Circus style acrobats, meets Cirque de Soliel, mixed with Moulin Rouge, a sprinkling of Techno and break dancers with music and singing as well. Unusual but highly entertaining. Sunday AM....... No retail therapy, it's all closed even in Berlin........so we dash about seeing some sights, like the Olympic Stadium of 1932, Schloss Charlotteberg, home of Frederik the Great, amongst others. Waving good bye to Clauds and U at around 5.30pm, it's off to Dresden by train, 2hours away. Our hotel is opposite the HauptBahnHof (main station) and at 8.30pm, after refreshing ourselves, the search for food and ... read more

After 6 hours of driving we make to the centre of Berlin, around 3.30pm. Our booked hotel, the 3 star Leonardo has overbooked. So they offer us another place to stay at no extra cost....The Hotel Ellington. 4 star and closer to the main attractions........what could we do??? We had to be polite and take up their offer, didn't we???? At last a win! especially after paying Euro 1.57 per litre for fuel x 2( AUD $2-10) Afterall doing 240kph does chew up the juice. After the 3 'S's ( you know....s--t, shower n shave) we go on a 5pm river cruise, to get our first sights of the new Berlin, along with English/german commentary, and beer! Everywhere that can, will sell beer. Planes, trains, boats, tobacco shops, the corner shop....it's unreal. You can also buy ... read more

So off we go from Hassloch towards Brohl-Lutzweg, the home town of my future nephew-in-law, Uwe. Pronounced "oo" as in Foo, Ve ......oo ve (Best I can do) It's about 2 hours away by Autobahn. Yep that means the Merc could do its thing and speeds of up to 220kph were reached. Totally awesome. And still other cars were passing us! Along the way we called into a Ceramic Village, just for me, and managed to see a few shops that were open for business, but unfortunately we weren't able to see a working potter or studio, as they were either on holidays themselves, or by the time we found one....it was lunchtime. And of course being a village, they shut for 2 hours...Double Grrrrrrrrrrr. Of course Phil had had his fill of pottery searching by ... read more

We have had a few days to settle in with Karin in Hassloch. The weather has been warm to hot...apparently we brought it with us, as the week before our arrival, it was cool with temps around 19c. Phil has had his first drive of Karin's new Peugot, on the wrong side of the road with me as the extra eyes......which translates to LOOK OUT!!!!! , Go, no I meant STOP, or Get out of the gutter or watch out for the other cars side mirrors! Sitting where I would normally be the driver on Aussie roads, having no control of how close we are to other cars is weird. With Hector the Cat's road safety message of "Look to left, look to the right, look to the left again, if the road ahead is clear ... read more

well after a long flight from melb to Frankfurt via Hong Kong, we stepped out from Customs att around 6am to a smiling niece and her finacee. Hugs and kisse all round , then in search of the car. Unlike Melbourne airport, the arrivals lounge has you walking directly into the carpark, and only when exiting the park station did we get our first glimpse of daylight in Germany. Good thing we had a driver.....we would have no idead where to go, what lane, in what direction. It is quite confusing. Eventually Clauds got the Merc up to over 200kph (when allowed) and trust me, you would not know unless you looked at the speedo. We arrived in Hassloch around 7.00am, to find the house locked up and no-one home! karin had gone out to get ... read more
