As it is getting warm enough now to leave the balcony door open all night, we awoke to the sounds of morning boat traffic just off Cabo Wabo, where we dropped the hook and prepared for “tender operations.” Our ship is so large at some ports we have to anchor off the coast and get ferried in by the ship’s “tenders” (English translation = life boats). Hit the beach at 1000 in the bright sunshine and headed off to our first shore trip – Zip Lining, rappelling, cliff climbing and such at the UNESCO preserve here in the Southern Sierra! Dan and Desi look out dudes – Two new Cliff Team guys coming your way! Carol took to it like a duck to water, and the driver had to chain her to the mini bus to ... read more

Oceans and Seas » Pacific December 6th 2012

Another foggy-to-sunny day today with one big change – Temperature has gone from the mid-50’s to the mid-70’s. Sea temperature matches the air temperature as we head south toward the Equator. After our workout, we headed up to the Sun Deck and just chilled while reading our books and drinking iced lattes all afternoon in the warm sun. Breeze freshened late in the afternoon so we headed back to our balcony, only to be met by a huge pod of dolphins cruising down the starboard side of the ship – they came right along-side and traveled the length of the ship, and then threw us a flying salute and headed away toward Hawaii – Sailors for centuries have considered this Good Luck! Had a great formal dinner with some new friends from New Zealand (husband is ... read more

Welcome to living with a Weight Watcher’s Leader and Fitness Instructor. Everyone else is upstairs killin’ Jimmy, and us? Same program (for those of you in our fitness class): In the gym at 0715 jacking weights and the regular routine, plus two miles on the elliptical, another 10 on the bike, and then two miles running the top deck of the ship. Carol demands this to counter-effect the impact of Jimmy. Good news is we purchased a “Spa Pass” for the trip to recover from these torture sessions…. Steam bath, sauna, surround-style showers and these awesome heated concrete recliners for resting the weary bones….. And THEN Jimmy! Other than that, just chillin’ on our balcony all day, reading good books and relaxing in the fog and sunshine. High 60’s today and promises of 85 or so ... read more

We have been in San Francisco with our friend and house sitter, Katie Huston, enjoying the food and the sights. Rain storm moved out this morning, which was good. We arrived at Pier 35 at 1300 and were aboard the S.S. Scurvy (Steve’s affectionate term for any vessel we sail aboard) by 1400 for a 1600 sailing, which unfortunately did not happen until almost 1800. Not sure what the deal was, but they were still loading fresh fruits and veggies at 1730 this evening. However, unlike our last cruise, all of our luggage showed up on time, and was promptly stowed. We held our first (and last for this leg) “Muster-abandon-ship, person-overboard, learn how to strap on a life jacket drill in port” before we sailed. Hope we never have to try this shit in a ... read more
