It was a very full day for Sue and I in Athens. She brought me a coffee and chocolate croissant for breakfast and we then headed for the New Acropolis Museum because it was raining and the museum opened recently. What a place!!!!! It is built over some ruins, so there are floors similar to the Glass Floor at the CN tower -- but it is not as scary! These let you see the excavation below the museum. The museum has lots of glass and a great view of the Acropolis. All the pieces are from the Acroplis -- and they are incredible. One of my favorites was a statue of Kore with a pomegranete (sp). Hotel Suiza is in perfect location! Everything I want to see is either in walking distance or a short subway ride! I had a room that overlooked the Placa del Angels. First place I wandered to was the Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar -- ad perfect place to go to light a candle before embarking on a cruise! Around the corner from the church, I heard some interesting music and found that I'd stumbled into a gathering of Catalans doing traditional dances that looked a lot like Morris dancing! ... read more
