Raining in Melbourne I see you´re back in Sydney with all those memories. I´m reading your blog while I sit looking out on the rain in southern Spain that has had none this year so it´s in great need. We have to pay for it to be channeled from the north. Rain we take for granted in the UK. But it is a lot warmer than the British rain! Hope you´re feeling better soon and the rain doesn´t hit Sydney. xxx
Love the photos Love the photos and your reference to their poetry. I´ve had a go at haiku and Masaoka Shiki poetry. I say attentively as it´s a real skill to be able to write anything of worth. Still working at it! Speak to you when you get back. xx

Scarlett Congratulations on your new little bundle of joy, she looks adorable. Thank goodness Andrea is there, they certainly kick you out of hospital very quickly in CPH
Isabella Scarlet Yes Isabella certainly looks to be adorable. I can almost feel that beautiful pale soft skin which babies have. Such a pit I have to wait until August to actually give her a real cuddle!! Yes, I've no doubt that Andrea is a real help.
Wrapping Japanese wrapping and packaging is a very specific cultural trait (see http://moodle.artun.ee/pluginfile.php/11130/mod_resource/content/2/packaging.pdf) that relates to long held customs and traditions. When merged with mass consumerism (and mass production), you end up with this fascinating hybrid. It isn't 'just shopping' and the reasons aren't as simple as they might be in the US ('of course everything is shrink wrapped for hygiene'), but caught up in these traditions.
Japanese wrapping Thanks Seb, I appreciate that. It's great to learn something new each day. Fascinating! Nevertheless, for the perspective of a visitor Japan does seem such a mixture of old and new ideas.
Hello Hi Michelle and Kevin! Enjoy your holidays. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. We had a wonderful walk last week, you'd have loved it. Love. George and Sonia
Food & Drink the green tea and beautifully laid out food reminded me when our Japanese neighbours invited us to their home for a meal all those years ago in Hong Kong. Must visit Japan it looks interestingly different.
Mt Fuji The last time we were in Japan we went up Mt Fuji. Well, to the very highest spot you can get to before you have to climb where we discovered, from those who'd just done it, that it was an effort of at least five hours there and back. And, we were told, it was hard work!
We started travelblogging in 2008 when, with the parenting responsibilities of six children long-gone, we (Michelle & Kevin) left home for a three months adventure during which time we spent some of the kids inheritance! Having always loved traveling, prior to our three months away six weeks has been the longest period we've been overseas and that was mostly with kids in tow. Now officially retired (well sort of) I think we'll be taking up this traveling lark with a vengeance! ... full info
