River More fabulous writings Paul - I want to swim here................the travelogue is so informative, especially for those of us who have come to know and love India through your travels. Cleansing hugs!
A bit of history on the ride home Great to hear from you again back in your beloved India! What inspiring stories of Ram and of Sundeep, and how frightening that the current Prime Minister was implicated in the violence again Muslims. Ayodhya sounds like a lovely place, so peaceful and with such an incredible history. I saw a multi-hour version of the Ramayana and it just seemed like a lot of warriors fighting. Glad to hear there was much more to Ram. Have fun on your journey back to your beloved valley!
From a Bundi Fan I'm glad to know that you love Bundi so much that you have visited it 4 times. My wife comes from Bundi. And I visit it too once a year. Did you go to Cenotaphs of Kings (Chorasi khambon ki chhatri)? That's a great place too...

It's the dance Two steps forward and one step back is the dance of life, or at least that's what I try to tell myself when I find myself falling back into useless habits.
I had a similar experience with my 82 year old mother. I'd vow to be patient and kind, and inevitably something would happen and I'd revert to being 12. It takes a lot of practice.
I get it :) A very special friend once said to me (while I was grappling with the wilderness between adventures) - 'it's not easy being green'............but in my mind it is so much better than being beige or grey. Restful hugs my friend!!1
So wise to use intuition! Yes, three goats sacrificed vs hundreds and enjoying spring weather in the less populated spot vs a hard climb and thousands of people--these sound like wise decisions. It seems as we age, it seems we no longer feel that need to "prove" that we can make it "all the way," and accept the blessings of knowing when we've arrived. Such an amazing experience that most of us will never experience--thanks for sharing!
So much India and so little time A great climb once everyone got organized. Sounds like you made a great decision to go it alone mid way. Interesting ceremony. Sorry it was so cold.
No fixed plan What a fabulous story. Always good to listen to suggestions along the road...and you did. Great rewards were yours. Would have loved to hear you play. Sounds like you found a comfortable place and should have stayed a few more days.
Yes and no Many similarities and done differences to my experience. I had packed up on day 3, intent on leaving; but by the end I couldn't get enough, and miraculously, little pain and just one cushion. :))
