Glamping is the best There is nothing better than safari. The animals are magnificent. Coming back to the luxury of a lodge like this is always a treat.
So much rain Ha! I think so too! It was miserable, and I took so few pictures. Even with my phone tucked away, it is now clear that it was damaged from the rain as sometimes the camera just freezes.
SO sorry to hear about all the rain. But the most important lesson a mountain climber learns is when to turn around...even if only 100 meters from the summit!
No regrets Yes, I have never had to turn around before and I felt like I could continue longer, but for me it was not worth it. If I could not even enjoy it, what is the point of continuing to be sick? I am not a person who has 'summit fever'. I like to enjoy my adventures, even if they are hard and frustrating at the time, but if the only highlight of the trip is a summit, no thanks.
I never went there I never went to Al Hamra when I was in Oman. But now that I see you pictures and read about it I wish I had. Thatnks for writing about that wonderful place. /Ake
I was just in France too but I never left Paris. So now I want to go back and experience places like Epernay. Thank you for your informative blog and lovely pictures!
Thank you! Yeah, it is hard because there is a lot to see and do in Paris. Last time I went to Paris, I visited the small town of Soissons, so I had a little idea of how to explore around a bit. Next time in France though, I want to go somewhere completely new!
Interesting read It was interersting to reas about the hikes you did in Oman. I visited that region in January 2009 and I remember that I enjoyed it very much. My trip was quite different from yours though as I didn't to any hiking there. /Ake
Was in Dubai only and one day in Abu Dhabi I visited Dubai a many years ago and also made a day trip to Abu Dhabi. I knew that there was plenty to see in the other emirates as well but I didn't have time to see any of it. Now it is nice to read about it. /Ake
I see a turtle I totally understand that it is a tourist trap. But it actually look like a turtle so they are excused if you ask me. When we were in Mongolia we were invited into a private home, a yurt. Since we were guests they gave us the best they had to offer - fermented horse milk. The host pointed at it and said "Mongolian beer" when he gave it to us. It was OK to drink but not very good. And yes, there was some alcohol in it. /Ake
We visited Mongolia in 2001 In 2001 we made a short visit to Mongolia. We went there only because I had to renew my visa to China. We stayed less than a week and didn't see much to be honest. It didn't help that we spent one of the days in bed after drinking dodgy water. /Ake
Homesick and more You do travel a lot for work and pleasure so I guess you'd have to miss roots from time to time. I hope it passed quickly. The team and food sounds wonderful. It sounds like you were able to see a lot in a short period of time.
Amorgos Loved reading this so soon after we’d been there ourselves. I loved doing some of the hikes, and Chora a real highlight, and how about that Monastery hanging off the cliff. I was very surprised we’d never heard of it before. Stunning!
Something new on weekends You've found some great things to explore. We've been to Dubai but that was a long time ago. We'd like to come back and do all the Emirates. I'll have to keep this blog in mind for our return.
Changes everyday If it's been awhile since you've been here, I am sure you will be shocked! This place is constantly evolving and does not even look the same to me as when I first moved here 10 years ago.
What a great trip The countryside, the monasteries and so much more. I would love to go to the calligraphy center even though there was more to it. Keep the blogs coming.
The excitement of Mongolia Mongolia has been on my short list for years. I can't wait to make this trip and your blog is fantastic! Thanks for taking us along.
I was an engineer on a long term assignment, first in Dubai and then in Qatar. During this time, I took advantage of my nice paycheck and proximity to other places to start seeing the world. After three years, I decided to take a much earned break and traveled for a year. After working about two years in New York State, I am on my way back to Dubai.... full info
