Your description of these events are priceless. And by the way, I'm jealous. Officially. ;-)
Kira's coming home!! I'm looking forward to talking to you! Enjoy the rest of your trip!
The Zo sends her love!! Hi, wonderful!!
Your blogs keep getting better and better, and the pictures are fantabulous. Have fun in Norway and Sweden. Make sure to save some
money for candy. It sounds like a ridiculous recommendation, I know, but
you'll soon see what I mean!! Your blog always makes me miss the drunken, ranting soccer hooligans in Austria... they were also quite friendly, very ignorant (in a happy, blissful way), and a joy always. Take care, and I'll see you soon. I saw the Zo yesterday, and she would definitely chew on your fingers if you were here... that's love.
You're Amazing! Kira,
What a fantastic opportunity you have this summer! I am having such a good time reading about all of your adventures! Thank you for keeping me in the loop. I'm glad you're going to Sweden (and Norway)--Sweden was going to be my vote but as you see, I'm just now writing. Your travels are fun for all of us to read about and I look forward to reading more as you have great experiences! You're amazing, my twin niece! Be safe--and stay as beautiful as you are!
Love,
Auntie Laini
So many "views from above"... ... I'm so proud of you, taking all of these panoramic photos at those heights... I love it!
Also, I'm stoked, of course, that you picked Sweeden! And Norway! (was that originally on the list? I forget now...) I can't wait to hear about it! (And see it!) I'm slightly jealous that you got to indulge in your "music nerdiness" over the weekend... how I miss it...
Continue to enjoy yourself, m'dear. I love you thi---------------------------s much!
You rock my face off!! Kira, I miss you like whoa! I am glad to hear that you had such a great time in Hamburg--I was sure that you would. I was, however, disturbed and shocked to the core that you ate the fish-slab sandwich. Especially considering that it was served scaly-side-up to you. Wow. Just wow.
Missing you like crazy,
Your Overly Proud Sister
You've got my vote! Kira,
I enjoyed reading your journal entry again. Bjoern looks great. I'm really glad you got to see him and visit Hamburg. It looks like a great place. Wow, Martin Luther's room!! I would love to visit there one day. I am a great fan of Martin Luther. The fish sandwich looked yummy! You know I'm not kidding!! For those of you who don't like fish, I apologize. Kira, I vote for Edinburgh. Love ya! Mum!!xoxoxo...
Italian tourists Hi Kira, we're enjoying your blog, as always. I had to laugh at your story about the Italian girls. When I was living in Paris, the most dreaded time of the year was Easter, when all the Italian tourists would pour into town. They make Americans seem quiet and refined! Often I would be in a metro car with a bunch of ordinary Parisians, quietly minding our own business, and a crowd of Italians would get on, screaming at the top of their lungs. We would all roll our eyes, and lots of people got off at the first opportunity. So, yeah, I can definitely believe your story! :-) By the way, I vote for Copenhagen....no, Edinborough (sp?). On second (third?) thought, maybe Stockholm would be best. Decisions, decisions.... If you haven't been to Prague yet, (and I can't remember if you've ever visited there) you definitely have to go sometime soon. Seriously, I know you would enjoy any of the places on your list. Just make sure you take lots of pictures! I'm so glad you got to see all the Friedrich paintings. Did you see Der Wanderer? I just freaked when I got to see that on my own all-too-brief visit to Hamburg. Take care, and keep writing.
Music-rific (or maybe Musi-rific?)! Yeah, I tried to make that into a new catchword, and I think I failed miserably. But anyways, it would apply to Hamburg based on all of your good times in addition to the fact that it is an important site in Beatles history. Clearly it is a pretty rockin' city. I'm glad to hear you are getting to see so much of Germany - how exciting! And how beautiful! Have fun!
The green-eyed monster speaks! Kira, I'm so jealous!! Barenboim playing the best piano concerto ever written in the Geburtsstadt of the best composer who ever lived!! That's too awesome. Did you see the Brahmshaus? I've always wanted to go there. Also, are there any big Liszt monuments and so forth in Weimar? I expect there must be . . . My vote for your traveling is for Stockholm or Copenhagen-- the latter has a more fantabulous (!) music history (Friedrich Kuhlau and Niels Gade lived and made music there, not to mention Carl Nielsen). Wherever you go, don't forget to blog! They're the highlight of my week! Best, --Marie
I knew you didn't like fish... ... so when I looked at the pictures before reading the blog I was so confused! You remember when you ate that mini Snickers bar in the Financial Aid Office in front of me and stopped to think about it afterwards while I stood and watched you? That kind of confusion. :)
Anyway- it sounds like you're going to have a hard time picking your favorite place to visit in Germany... so SO many good things to see...
...Anxiously awaiting the tally of your travel votes...
*all my love*
Cultural Idol Vote You should either go to Brussels or to Stockholm. If it gets oppressively hot in the next few weeks, then you should seriously consider Stockholm. It may as well be in the Artic circle as far as I'm concerned... d'jou remember the summer that Jonathan was born? I was in Stockholm, freezing to death. But it was very beautiful.
Brussels is also amazing, and you can't see everything in just one visit. You would definitely have to plan another trip there... I love you.
Kira's going to end up in a German prison. The End. "She's a maniac, maaaaniac!" Those pictures are rather condemning...
So, Edinburgh...no. My friends in London went there and liked it, but it wasn't the best of times. Copenhagen, I thought, yes, but alas, Bohr and the atom bomb happened there...no. Stockholm...a pleasant idea, cute Swedish boys with as pasty skin as my own, but I met a bunch of Swedes from Stockholm at the children's theatre in London (although in translation apparently a mother calling a daughter a "fucking cunt" is acceptable--maybe not), so again a no. That leaves Belgium. Chocolate is in Belgium. It gets my vote! (with lots of chocolate on top)
Love your blog. It's the highlight of my existence. Seriously, you're amazing. Keep 'em coming.
Love the Neo-Gothic!!! Hiya Kira. I've been writing about Old-Gothic architecture all week, so your pictures of all those towers and pointed arches seem like close friends. : )
Though all the candidates sounds tres exciting, I would have to vote for Edinburgh: Scotland has always had a magical allure for me, and I'm writing about the Cistercians in Northern England/Scotland. Plus, have you ever seen "An American Werewolf in London"? That opening in Scotland is great!! Enjoy yourself wherever you travel to.
My vote After giving it some thought, I'm casting my vote for Copenhagen. I imagine it being very pleasant, although I reckon all of your choices are. So can you get Ryan Seacrest to announce the final decision? He could open it with "THIS is Cul-TUR-al Enrichment Idol." It would be fairly awesome. Kudos on the illegal museum pics too! I'm afraid being at MAG this long as permanently ingrained that act in my psyche as somehow immoral, and I'm afraid of being yelled at by guards after my experience at the Frick Collection. Anyways, I hope all is well - Seacrest OUT!
Now that you've gone wading in the Rhein... ... you can do anything! :) Feel empowered, my dear!
ohmygosh-- I really like your photos of Wiesbaden! I really want to go there now. It just looks so swanky!
I'm also glad that you're still taking lots of illegal pictures (in the spirit of the Vatican, of course) and soaking up lots and lots of history-- way up your alley! Please keep the blogs coming...
I know I'm intrigued by the thought of touring Great Britian, so Scotland would be a wonderful choice... but Sweeden?! SO different than anything you've seen so far, I'm sure. Maybe I'll vote for Sweeden, then. What do we win if you pick our location, here on "Cultural Enrichment Idol?" I'm just curious...
**loveandmiss**
yay illegal pics! Hooray for illegal pics of historically important artifacts! You go! As for being a dork, well, you said, that, I didn't. Glad you're having such a whirlwind good time! As for votes...well, I've never been to any of those places, but off hand I would be inclined to vote for Brussels, and if we're allowed to have a runner-up (?), maybe Copenhagen? Na, I'm voting for Brussels. How many people are you living with now, or do you by any chance have a room all to yourself? Probably too much to hope for. :-/ Keep on keepin' on--love the pics! What is the Biebrich Schloss?
Hooligans! Kira,
You must have been wearing your t-shirt that says on the back, "Kick me - you fussball hooligan, you!". Just kidding, of course. BTW, where is that shirt?? I've been looking for it! HA! I'm proud of you for being so creative in finding ways to get your daily workout while in Germany. Tower stairs - yes! The next aerobic workout phenomenon- coming to America!! Great pictures, especially the ones of you. I might be slightly biased though, um...
Love ya!!
Mum
You are a fox!! Eebs, I miss you so very much, but I'm glad to hear that you are having a good time despite the hooligans. You've now gotten to experience soccer hooliganism in the UK and in Germany. Are the brash, screaming cries of "Roone-hey" better, or the drunks singing Backstreet Boys?
I cut my hair short again. I'll send you pictures later. You look great.
Hugs from your overly proud sister!
YEY I agree with the fabulous Connie, take your Oprah moments!!!!! The Kassel photos are amazing, I must add this to my Must See Before I Die list. I miss you! Continue to have amazing adventures, albeit the soccer hooligans and high climbes.
Friends really DO make a difference! You can have as many Oprah moments as you need. That is acceptable.
Anyway. These pictures are so great-- I LOVE the view from the top of the tower. I'm also very proud that you went all the way to the top. Next, we'll have to conquer the third level of the Eiffel Tower! I know you can!
I miss you and will eagerly await your next post... **hug**
Hi there!
I'm Kira and this blog follows my various travels around the globe (hopefully). In the summer of 2006, my best friend Connie and I traveled throughout Europe and caused a fabulous ruckus! In the summer of 2007, I'm traveling around Germany and (hopefully) Scandinavia while visiting some friends. Where will I be next summer (2008)? Stay tuned!... full info
