-- So it's raining here. I'm going to take this opportunity to blog real quick about the first day or so in Chennai. We arrived pretty late the day before last to the Chennai Airport, SO MANY PEOPLE. Trying to get our bags was just.. well.. it would have been funny if I wasn't so tired. Basically there are a million people trying to do the same thing at the same time, with no queuing, or lining up. Everyone is very helpful, it is just hard to get anything done fast when everyone is trying to get things done fast. Driving in Chennai We get into our cab, and we have a substitute driver- because our original driver hit a cow a few days ago and his car will not be fixed for a while or ... read more

Good Morning! I apologize for not writing sooner. There was an immensely long plane ride and then I found tourist stuff to do and a lot of sleeping. So, we arrive in Dubai, I got to see the Palm from the plane. It's even on google maps. the palm is a man made palm tree looking shaped beach here in Abu Dhabi. http://www.lonelyplanet.com/united-arab-emirates/dubai/images/marina-dubai$26294-21#content My mother and I checked into the hotel (around 16:40) and walked around to find a grocery store. They had mostly American food items and chips. It was cool seeing Doritos and "Cheez balls" written in Arabic. We had dinner at this little restaurant next to the hotel called Coco's, which turned out to have the entire menu of TGIFriday's. Fried green beans and all. * I must men... read more

30 some odd days until the India trip. So far, I have packed two boxes of cinnamon pop-tarts, and 2 skirts, some underwear, and two pairs of pants. (The pants are mostly because I have heard this rumor that I can take clothes and have them "copied" so that I have more pairs of jeans). Honestly I don't know what else to take. I did Europe with one backpack, and never dug into half the stuff I carried, so I am a bit hesitant to pack more this trip. I do plan on buying a lot of the merchandise in India. I am spending Christmas and New Years 2014 over there so I figured I could buy most goods. So for this trip I had to get a number of shots, (finally done, except Tetnus. I ... read more

The rafting trip-- said to be "This is the Beast of the East, the most renowned whitewater in West Virginia, always in the top 3 in the nation, consistently in the top 5 in the WORLD. The Upper Gauley River drops over 335 feet in less than 13 miles. It's the essence of big-water rafting excitement creating an intense whitewater experience not recommended for the timid or inexperienced. The Upper Gauley River is continuous, big volume, technical, gut-wrenching whitewater from start to finish. Prior rafting experience and the ability to swim are recommended. " Second time rafting this river (Gauley), first time on the "New River". I went with my Dad, Step-mom, aunt, cousin and brother.... read more

Castles. More importantly, Neuschwanstein Castle. -LINK-there is all the information on the actual castle, and not just my view of it. First I had to get to Fussen, where this particular castle and another are located. I rode a train with other members of a walking tour from Munich to Fussen. I met this Canadian, Toby who I shared a train ride with, and a rather hostile game of "My Farm." For complete rules and regulations of "My Farm" please see an Aulstralian named Vince that is on a train somewhere in Munich. I'm sure he'll explain the rules for you like he did for me and Toby. So me and Toby play "My Farm" on the way to and from the castles. In between shouts of "My pig" and "My hay!" there were tiny mini ... read more

So while I was in Amsterdam, I realized my Eurorail pass was about to expire. I got ahold of Mateo, who was living in a type of student housing area in Munich. We made plans for him to meet me in the München Hauptbahnhof, underneath the blue sign. What I failed to realize is that there are two main entrances to München Hauptbahnhof, and there are also two blue signs. I arrived in Munich, and could NOT find Mateo. I randomly walked away from the train station, no way of contacting Mateo, no hostel reservations made, ect. I walked to a Casino that had an "internet" sign, and made my way to the back computers, where I got on FB and contacted Mateo, who luckily came and found me. I don't think I have ever been ... read more

Amsterdam was a trip. No pun intended. This place is like you are in a giant sized play place. There are millions of bikes around, lots of canals, city parks where people are tripping on shrooms and smoking or eating pot, tulips everywhere, boats, and lots and lots of drinking. My first night there, I had a bit of trouble (seems to be a theme for first days in new countries) where I was trying to find my hostel (Amsterdam Hostel Leidseplein) located on Korte Leidsedwarsstraat 79. So this was the first time I was trying to dissect compound words within words to understand what I was looking for. Since Leidsedwarstraat ends with "straat" it means street. So every time you run into a big word, you have to sit there and tear it apart to ... read more

Milan, Italy. Italy was amazing. My first night there, I got into a fight in the underground metro with a bum. I had just arrived off of a train from Switzerland and was alone. My dad took a night train back to Paris from Switzerland, and I continued on. I'm getting off the train at the main train station, and I have the hostel directions (Ostello Bello, ranked number 1 hostel in 2012) and I am trying to buy a metro ticket to use the Italy metros. I put my coins into the machine against the wall, and there are people asking for money everywhere. Not just in the train stations, on the streets too. So my train gets in about 2:00 am local time, and the underground metro is deserted. You need this little ticket ... read more

Switzerland was just by far my favorite place on this Eurotrip. It took us 16 hours by train to arrive in Switzerland from Paris-Leon. We had a bit of trouble locating the exact spot in Switzerland I was trying to get to. I wanted this very specific town that is home to Diga Verzascas. This is the famous 007 Bungee jump from The James Bond Movie "Skyfall". It is the second highest in the world, first being the ones in Victoria Falls, Africa. Anyways, back to the train. So we are taking a train through Switzerland and our train stops at this military academy of some sorts.. (I didn't even know the Swiss had a military) and a platform full of boys get on the train. There were so many guys that got on the train ... read more
