Morocco- The Ancient Medina. We flew from Madrid, Spain to Casablanca, Morocco. I had heard this line in the Movie "Almost Famous" with Kate Hudson. She and OP are standing waiting after a show and Lady (Kate Hudson) says to OP. "Don't say good-bye. When we meet again, we will live in Morocco for one-year. one year- got it?" I don't know why that made such an impression on me. Maybe seeing the movie hundreds of times it gets engraved to your brain that this Morocco must be miraculous if Kate Hudson's character Lady wants to go there for a whole year. I mean, she's amazing. She says Morocco, then I must go to Morocco. The real reason I wanted to go to Morocco is that it is a land I have only ever heard of. ... read more

Europe » Spain » Catalonia » Barcelona » Barcelona May 15th 2013

Ah, Barcelona, home of the Ice bar, Ramblas street, and Lighthouse festivals. The third trip on our stop was in Barcelona, Spain. My dad and I stayed at a hostel again. This particular hostel sticks in my mind because of my roommates. One was this chick with dreadlocks down to her butt, and once when I was sleeping I looked over and right below my bottom bunk is an almost nude dude doing yoga on the floor. Parallel to my bed. In order to get out of the bed, I had to nicely ask nude dude (Australian) to move in such a way that I could get around him to get out of the bed. Moving on to the streets of Barcelona. I think this is the first time I tried cooking on this trip. I ... read more

Yes. That's right. "Nun made cookies". On the plane I sat next to this older lady who told me about this tiny church located in downtown Madrid. She said if I went to the backside of the church, and found the door, I could ask the Nuns who lived at the Monastery for some cookies. Seems legit right? So three days of Madrid and we have kept an eye out for these nun cookies. NO luck. So we visit the "tourist info center" in the town plaza (literally the town square) and we get the directions for the church that has the nun cookies. It must be a popular thing to ask because the lady I was asking at the Tourist desk didn't bat an eye. She just took my map and made a dot. Me ... read more

-I think me an my dad had the best pizza ever. Of course we wandered around Spain for a bit- me and my dad getting off the plane (no customs) and getting on a bus that takes you through the city. We had general directions to the hostel but no very specific. One thing I remember is standing on a corner in Spain completely lost. trying to find out land markers ( we were standing at a very large roundabout- which is fine, but I could not see what buildings of where I was and roundabouts make a crappy way of trying to turn the map in the right direction) , trying not to get run over, trying to have a cigarette, and trying not to stress out was all going on. We finally make it ... read more

North America » United States » Texas » San Antonio May 12th 2013

I started my trip flying from San Antonio to Philadelphia. I was also supposed to attend my graduation ceremony for my Bachelor's degree in Business Administration that day. But true to anything important in my life, I decided to finish college out with a trip to Europe instead of a 6 hour "wait-for-my-name-to-be-called-then-stay-embarrassed-while-I-try-not-to-trip-walking-across-the-stage-how-humiliating" ceremony, and I hopped on a plane to backpack across Europe. Now this is something that I've always heard of. People wanting to take off, and backpack across Europe. I had never known anyone who had actually done it. So, I wanted to do it but I had no clue where to begin. I started searching web-sites. I literally typed in "how do you backpack across Europe?". I called my dad and talked to my mom for advice. I didn't want to go ... read more
