Asia » Thailand » Central Thailand » Ayutthaya March 6th 2013

Arriving in Ayutthaya we were dropped off in the middle of nowhere. The driver pointed to me and then opened the door to the van. Alright I thought, out I go. We were dropped off at a mall. I was starving. We went inside and I hate to admit it but we ate at McDonalds. The Thai food is sooooo good that I feel bad chowing down at McDonalds- but we were looking for a quick meal so we could be off seeing the sites. After my cheeseburger and fries which I scarfed down in record time we took a tuk tuk to our hotel. Our hotel was sooooooo cute. It was a guesthouse. Upon arriving the two women greeting us got us to sit down at their table and got us water. They also pointed ... read more

Asia » Thailand » Western Thailand » Hua Hin March 2nd 2013

We walked to Naoori India but it was closed. We found the next closest place which happened to be an Australian pub and ate there. It was ladies night so all food I ordered was half price. We started with these amazing handmade fries. Soooooo good and then my sweet and sour chicken arrived. Which was not sweet or sour at all and tasted like chicken cooked in ketchup. My worst meal yet. At least the fries were good. And the banana pancake place in Ko Tao was the best yet. Mmmmmm bananna nutella pancake. Anyways, after dinner we found some live music to listen to and had a few drinks at the beach. I call this island the Jack Johnson island. Everywhere we seem to go Jack Johnson music is playing and the hippy vibe ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Ko Tao February 26th 2013

We finally arrived in Koh Tao after our sea sickening boat ride and made our way to our hotel. We then headed down to the beach and saw the Sairee beach town then headed back and called it a day...boat ride took a lot out of us. The next day we got up and felt a lot more refreshed. Grabbed some breakfast and then found a kayak rental. We rented it for 2 hours and we departed Sairee beach and headed over to Nangyuan (took us 45min to paddle over) and we decided that we were going to have a beer and then head back. Well as soon as we got off the Thais were running up to us to gather our money to be on the island. Thus we were only going to have a ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Ko Pha-Ngan February 25th 2013

Arriving in Ko Phagnan we checked into our hotel. Our hotel had a perfect location and was walking distance to all the action. We had lunch on the beach and then went swimming. This was my favorite beach so far. The water actually had waves and the sand was phenomenal. That night we walked around town looking for where the action was. The town was like a ghost town with no one around. We finally found all the people. They were all partying on the beach. We watched a fire show and had a lot of fun. The next day we rented a scooter and checked out the island. We had seen signs that they had a "Wipeout" course here. We decided to do it. However when we arrived this was nothing like the Wipeout on ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Ko Samui February 21st 2013

Our half day trip in Phi Phi was a lot of fun. We boarded a longtail boat and headed out. We got to go swimming in a secluded area and also snorkeling right off Maya Beach. We then went to Maya Beach but there were so many tourists. The movie "The Beach" has made the beach so popular that you can not relax. We also visited monkey beach on the way back to Phi Phi Don. Monkey Beach was really sad. Approaching the island there is a big sign reading "DO NOT FEED THE MONKEYS DO NOT POLLUTE". When we arrived we found all of the tourists feeding the monkeys and the tiny beach was soooooo polluted. Monkeys were drinking cans of Pepsi that tourists left behind. You all know how I feel about cruelty to ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Ko Phi Phi Don February 17th 2013

We have now arrived from our 2hr boat ride into Ko Phi Phi Don. When we got off the boat they heard you like cattle through a gate to pay the 20 (0.66 cents) Baht per person fee for being on the island. We started walking passing by the "taxi" people trying to get your business. We did not have a clue which direction to go....so we walked and walked....then I decided to start asking which way to our hotel. They kept saying "left at the 7-11" and i though oh great there is a 7-11 at every corner...well I was wrong there are only two on the Don island...so left it was....now which way? We finally got a clear english anwer and it was right at the corner bend. So on and on we walked....this ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Ao Nang February 15th 2013

We were overcome by the beauty of Ao Nang while we were approaching it by boat. From our pictures below you can see why. We were taken to our hotel and were able to stash our bags there while we went for lunch and to the beach and waited to check in. That night we found a little bar with live music right on the beach. I love that about Thailand. It is easy to find live music and no entrance fee is ever needed. The man performing was originally from New York and had moved to Thailand several years earllier. He performed many rock songs and we had a great time. Our second day in Ao Nang we woke up early and ready to explore. We rented a scooter and explored for several hours. We ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Phuket February 13th 2013

Arriving in Phuket we were met with a sea of Taxi drivers practically screaming at us to get our business. I don't know how it works over here but anyone who yells at me is not getting my business. I shut down and ran away to the closest booth and booked us on a bus. The drive to our hotel was nice and we got to see a lot of the island. We arrived at our hotel in Patong and had no problem checking in. We soon realized that Phuket seems just as busy as Bangkok. We were pushing our ways through the crowds in the street and had a great dinner at a restauarant that was made out of rocks. The next day we went to the beach. I was so excited to finally see ... read more

Asia » Thailand » Central Thailand » Bangkok February 12th 2013

I had always heard that Bangkok was humid and stinky and smoggy, so my expectations weren't high. But my expectations were exceeded as the city did not smell all that bad- better than Mexico anyways and the smog was not that bad either. The city reminded me of a more cultural version of New York City. Arriving in Bangkok at midnight on Sunday we expected the city to be quiet. We were in for a huge surprise when we could barely move down Khaosan Road to find our hotel. We were shoulder to shoulder with people partying and shopping and eating street food. Luckily it only took us ten minutes to find our hotel. They had lost our reservation but had a room for us. Our room was nice. We were determined to try and beat ... read more
