Coba, 17-01-1990. Coba is also an old and ancient mayan ruin side, though not as well excavated as Chichen Itza. Most of the piramides and other ruins are still mostly covered plants and trees. We have come to the conclusion that 25.00 mexican peso a night for a double room is the cheapest price we can get for accomodation and raelly quite a bit above our budget, can't be changed! We have some serious plans to actually camp out on top of one of these piramides here in Coba. ... read more

Valladolid, 16-01-1990. Spending yet another day at Chichen Itza, we managed to get inside El Castillo. Inside El Castillo is a second piramide within which one can see, after climbing a steep staircase which is damp and moisty with severly stale air, a stone jaguar with jade eyes. Very impressive indeed! We also found out that there are nine steps on each side of El Castillo, added with the upper platform there are in total 365 steps or the number of days in a year. Maybe the best part of the day was meeting two signorinas from Italia who are also lodging in Valladolid and will have dinner with us tonight. Much to the delight of James who is way too shy around the female part of the human population on this world to ever ask ... read more

Valladolid, 15-01-1990. We spent the whole day at Chichen Itza yesterday admiring these ancient ruins. We heart a rumour that those people who excavated this site did so under the infuence of the infamous mexican magic mushrooms in order to get the idea about the lay out of the place, the way the buildings used to look like, what it was like to live in that Mayan society. These archelogical diggers must have been a happy bunch when they were donig thier work here! ... read more

Valladolid, 13-01-1990. I have no complaints of the busses in Mexico so far. It took us three hours by air-conditioned bus to Valladolid, nice bus with reclinig seats and a sober chofer. We had heard stories back home in Amsterdam about all mexican drivers always being drunk and practising macho driving especially when there are gringos on board, not so far. Valladolid seems a pretty enough city but we are mostly here because of Valldolid's proximity to the ancient ruins of Chichen Itza. Since we live on a pretty tight budget we spent our evenings sitting outside and drinking beer from the supermercado instead of hitting the bars. Hopefully things will be cheaper in Guatamala and further south. ... read more

Cancun, 12-01-1990. While James is trying hard to chat up the asian lady in the chair nexzt to him, without much success by the looks of it, i watch The mexican peninsula of Yucatan through the small plane window getting closer and closer and with it Cancun, our port of entry in Mexico. Cancun is a busy town full with hamburger fat americans who probably lodge out at Zona Hotelera, a strip of land between the ocean at one side and a green lagoon at the other side full with huge hotels, all of them in the 5 star expensive shit sort of thing. The locals must make a bundle here in Cancun judging from all the shopping these fatso americans to at the countless souvenir shops and stuffing themselves on mexican restaurants that are ... read more

Miami, 11-01-1990. Drunk out of our heads and dead tired we finally made it to Miami, a huge airport with planes taking of and landing more freqeuntly as i have ever seen at any airport before. Leaving our backpacks in a luggage locker we decide first to have a coffee at the airport's coffee lounge. Now, i have heard about this big cuban thing here in Miami and had expected the town to be bi-lingual but it is soon clear to us that spanish - the cuban way - is more widely spoken than that fucked up english the americans speak. Too bad for James whose spanish is as bad as his dutch - the english really can't speak their languages! Feeling a bit beter after the coffee and getting ourselves a motel room for ... read more

Above Greenland. This plane is taking quite a detour going all the way over Iceland and Greenland and then following the american west coast down to Miami. Me and James we just continue knocking down the free beer courtesy of Martin Air and taking the piss out of each other. "Hey James look man, down there is Greenland". "I can actuaslly see a white polar bear down there running across the snow". Half the plane hurries to these stupid small plane windows pushing each other out of the way to see this non-existent polar bear while James stays in his seat and says with a loud voice "ha ha, you can actually see a white polar bear at ten thousant meters up here on white snow, good joke Hans!!!" Half the plane returns to their ... read more

Above iceland. We try hard to drink ourselves into a stupor and sleep it off for the rset of the flight to Miami. It is James' turn to go to the kitchen and get us some more cans of Grolsch - GOOD DUTCH BEER, MON!!! - but a group of germans have the same intentions as we have and block his way to the kitchen and all the ice-cold beer in it, the very purpose of his trip. Being physically speaking, the little shit he is he does not get much attention from the german lagerlouds and agry like mad he returns to his seat telling me to go get the beer myself since i can after all speak the stupid german of these Hitler fanatics holding his finger under his chin - faking the ... read more

Above oceans. 10-01-1990. "Give me a scotch on the rocks please, my dear" James teels the stewardess shortly after take-off. "Jesus James are you crazy or what? Excuse me lady but you can give this man a alcoholic drink, he has got a serious heart problem. I should know, i am his doktor"! "Ha Ha, good joke, man. Just give me that drink and don't listen to him my dear, he is having a bit of a joke at my expense". Well, we started off well enough with jokes and all that but then we are mostly dreinking buddies who have spent years together going from one bar to the next in the Amsterdam centre, in the tourist district and the Red Light District - which is pretty much the same in Amsterdam - drinking ... read more

Suvarnibumi Airport, 08-04-2008. I feel pretty good after nearly ten days in Pattaya again. I'm at the airport now waiting for my flight, drinking a big Kloster and REALLY feeling relaxed but then after all the female attention I got in Pattaya, I would say any man would feel SUPER!!! Mo came to my room last night asking me if she could stay the night, sleeping peacefully in my arms most of the night before leaving me early in the morning. It was only after she had left me that the persistent knocking on my door started again. Probably one of the Hot Mommas staying in my hotel hoping to pick up her rent money for today, something I have become quite familiar with over the years I've come to Pattaya and staying at the New ... read more
