Okay, so I kind of let things go. Life got pretty crazy towards the end of Europe. Now it's over a year later and I'm off to Sedona, Arizona to study Shakespeare and the Sedona Shakespeare Institute. It's an intensive program that runs for about a month and everyday I'll be training from 8:30am until 10pm. In my off time I'll be exploring the other side of the country, the side I'm not so familiar with. A few goals: -since I'm in the desert, I want to find a horse, preferably a horse with no name, and ride the horse -climb Mt. Wilson -see the Grand Canyon (it's two hours away!) -get TAN I leave tomorrow morning. It's going to be a long flight. Thank God for Vallium. :)... read more
What a long, strange trip its been. For the past three weeks I've basically been travelling non-stop. It all started with my trip to Ireland. We came back for a day and a half only to leave for Haarlem (NL) on Wednesday night. From Haarlem we drove to Amsterdam and then flew to Prague. From Prague I took an overnight train to Italy where I spent two days in Venice, then Florence, and finally Easter in Rome. And I just got back at 12:30 today. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I should probably talk about everything thats happened between my trip to London and Paris and now. There's so much. (London and Paris will have their very own entry which will be up soon.) The weekend after we got back from our first excursion/independent travel break I went with Meaghan ... read more
This is just a little note to let you know I won't be updating for a couple weeks as I'll be in London and then Paris. (We leave Thursday morning!) But you can expect one kickass entry when I get back. I have a feeling there will be many stories and pictures to share. Au Revoir! Katie... read more
It's taken me longer than I would have liked to update on my recent travels. This weekend I stayed in at the Castle and went to Nijmegen for a day trip. It's a nice town. Really, we only went shopping. But I found a new coat for 20 euro (the zipper on my old one broke). The rest of the time I've been more or less alone in the castle except for a few of my friends. Nothing too exciting has gone on. I was supposed to go to Ireland but I cancelled. I needed a weekend of rest to be healthy and ready to go to London and then to Paris. We leave early Thursday morning for London. It's a mandatory Castle-wide excursion for about a week. And then I'm making a pit-stop at Stonehenge ... read more
The cool thing about living in Well is that its right near the border of Germany. Also, there is virtually no border control so you don't have to worry about awkward moments going through customs on a bike. This means that if one is equipped with a bicycle and has some time on one's hands one could certainly visit Germany. One could and one DID. I'm exhausted now. And I have to do four hours of Tai Chi in Acting class tomorrow. The bike riding combined with the Tai Chi and the stairs I'm constantly going up and down is really going to get me in shape. Thank god. Anyway, we (Nicole and I) made it to a little town called Weeze after a couple hours of getting lost and wondering what country we were even ... read more
Amsterdam: The city that epitomizes all of the Netherlands and both confirms and rejects all preconceived ideas about the country. You know what I mean. Looking back, I realize how fitting it was that I visited Amsterdam during my last year as a teenager/my last year of excusable immaturity/"the year of the crunk" (according to Kyle.) Amsterdam does not disappoint. We arrived in Amsterdam around 10pm on Friday night. On the train I realized that I had forgotten my ATM card and only had 45 Euro for the weekend. At first I panicked, but I soon realized how much there is to do without spending a lot of money. Laura, Nicole and I had to find the hotel. (Meaghan had arrived earlier in the day and was eagerly awaiting our arrival.) Basically, we hitchhiked a tram ... read more
I'm here! It took me a couple of days to get internet access. But now I'm up and running. The flight actually wasn't bad at all. I was really nervous but I took some valium (washed it down with a milkshake and some fries from McDonalds for an added American touch) and I was pretty chill through the whole flight. I was even able to get up and go to the bathroom. That's a huge step for me. Usually I'm too terrified to even look around on the plane. We got in around 8am on Saturday. Jet lag is rough. It felt like I was awake for a week. On the ride in, on the bus, I kept falling asleep and waking up to find I had drooled on myself. I loved watching the landscape as ... read more
