WOW HI,
I was a student of Lukus at Fanshawe and to read this journey after so long was just amazing. When I attended in 2012 I remember Lukus taking us out for a ride on Abigail and telling us of this trip he would eventually be taking and to find out it happened was just too awesome. Best of luck on your future travels and thank you for the well written adventure.
Pig bite I too was bit in the butt by a pig on what it sounds like, the same excursion. Like you, I was just walking up to the beach. Mine, unfortunately was much worse that yours.
We had to leave three days early, and I just spent 4 Days in the hospital. BEWARE OF THE PIGS!
Beware of pigs I agree. I think people are unaware of how nasty a pig bite can actually be!! I know I was surprised!! Of course, I think people in general (me included) forget that animals are just that, animals. They can be unpredictable, and it is important to always be on guard and to give them their space! I am so sorry to hear you had to shorten your trip!
Enjoyed I thoroughly enjoyed going on this journey with you. My husband and a friend of his met you in Peoria, IL, it must have been last fall sometime. I would never do what you have done but it's been fun experiencing it through your eyes. Thank you.
Thanks for following us! I remember meeting your husband and his friend. That was close to the beginning of our adventures. We are so grateful to have people we hardly even know following along with us on our journey. I can understand this type of trip is.not for everyone...but hopefully you are fulfilling your own dreams!
WELCOME HOME What a fantastic experience you both have had. The experience will stay with you for the rest of your life as a FIRST. I hope you have many more of them and each is as fulfilling as the ones that came before!!!!
Keep It Up Emy, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog during your journey with Lukus on Abigail for almost a year. You are such an excellent writer and I was drawn to keep reading to see what picturesque expression you come up with. You are funny and write just like you talk.
I would like to read your journey Blog even after your voyage is over. Thank you for being who you are.
Dad
I am who I am in part because of you! You have been an inspiration and a source of strength and encouragement throughout my life. I wouldn't be who I am without your influence dad...funny and all. Love you so much and cannot wait to see you soon!!
Followed your blogs Hello Lucas and Emy, Since Gretchen and I met you on Washington Island we have been following your blogs. Thank you for taking the time to write them. They were very informational and entertaining and an inspiration to anyone who is thinking about embarking on an adventure. I am glad your "Great Loop" was completed, congratulations. Perhaps we will meet again at a dock somewhere in the Great Lakes.
Thank you I still remember meeting you on the dock, just after our first nasty storm encounter. It is amazing how time has passed since then. We are so touched that so many have kept up with our adventures through our blog. We have met so many kind and interesting people on this journey. It would be wonderful to meet up again somewhere, sometime. Enjoy the boating season!!
Possible place to live in Dover Hi
I have been following you adventure and look forward to your return so I can meet you and Lucas personally. We own the Coot and had always planned on doing a similar trip but life got on the way.
Jim Murphy has a cottage that may be available to rent. It is across the back channel at the yacht club and looks down on the creek and the Coot and of course your dock. I do not have any details but will give you his contact information when you get back in port.
Look forward to seeing you.

Thanks for the info :) Hi Frank, we really appreciate your help. So glad you have enjoyed following along in our adventures. We would love to finally meet you in person too. This was a great trip and I highly recommend it if you can make it happen!
We will contact Jim when we get back into port. Thanks again, it is great to have people so eager to help out :)
SWAMPED Good Morning: I do hope you are either tied up somewhere or you are far enough away that the rain we have been experiencing for the last hour and has no sign of letting up is not affecting you. Welcome home almost. Take your time getting here it is no fun this morning!
Ditto It is pretty swamped here right now too. We have flash flood warnings in the area - lucky for us we are pretty secure on a boat. No chances of getting flooded,..ha ha. It is cooler here, but we are tied up in a sweet little town called Spencerport.
Slowly transitioning our minds to life back at home. Some things to start to think about again (work, transportation, winter....) but we are looking forward to catching up with all our friends and family! Hope you are enjoying the summer despite the abundance of rain.
Hi Can't believe you are almost home - what an adventure Em. I am just reading a book about a family from Ottawa that spent several years sailing around the world with their 3 kids (steel boat too)...
Life is an adventure I can't believe how quickly this time has passed; it has been quite the journey. But there are so many more possibilities out there! We are looking forward to what is next - maybe it will be a circumnavigation one day!!
What an experience for those kids! We have come across many young families, and honestly, their children are some of the most open-minded, well-adjusted and mature young people we have ever met.
Inching along Well today I got the grass cut between 3 rain showers so we are in agreement that the weather is not the best. So what ever you do. DO NOT RUSH it has to get better. Our neighbours have a sail boat in Dover and this week the only good day is Wednesday. Enjoy your last few days normal will be here all toooooooo soon!
Fantastic Now that you are almost home I can not believe that your Odyssey has almost come full circle. Likely you are not yet ready for a sequel but I and I am sure several of your readers can hardly wait. What a fantastic way to spend a year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a request. Once you are home and Lukus is back at school but before school starts I want to take him out for lunch (my treat) and here about your adventure. have him email me to set up a date. Enjoy your last few miles (now that you are so close that should likely be KM) and welcome home almost it must be kind of bitter sweet.
Thanks Tom So glad you have enjoyed our blog! We are absolutely ready for a sequel, would keep going if it wasnt a matter of financial supports, lol. But we already have lots of ideas! Lukus says, sounds good and he will let you know when he is back.
you end up diving right into the meat of life I love your observation, "There is little trivial conversation; you end up diving right into the meat of life." Conversations are so interesting when you dive right into the meat of life! xo
Amendment... I was thinking maybe this statement was not very "inclusive"! What about the poor vegetarians?? I should perhaps amend this statement to be the "meat/protein substitute" of life...or soy product? Eggplant? Will have to contemplate...lol
More to come Well, we will just have to go on more adventures and write about them!! We dont plan to call it quits for life! Many more plans of new journeys in the future!!
