Well, since I last talked to you a lot has happened. We were on our way to Cork. However at dinner that night, Dennis' knee suffered a major setback. A "loose body" either got in the joint space or a part of the meniscus moved into the joint space. Even so, the net result was that he could not walk or stand without severe pain. He had to leave the dining room in a wheel chair. The pain was severe all night and the next morning we saw the ships Doctor who agreed with our diagnoses. By early in the day the pain suddenly went away but the doctor said he should try to rest the leg as much as possible over the next several days. So we have been confined to quarters, sleeping and eating. ... read more

FOWEY CORNWALL ENGLAND AUGUST 23, 2017 We had an uneventful flight to London where we stayed for 2 days. The first day we slept an embarrassingly long time. So just got up for dinner and then went back to bed, The next day we did go out and walked around and got Dennis so new shoes and me a beautiful leather jacket. The same driver that brought us from the airport picked us up for the hotel and drove us to Southhampton where we boarded the ship. The embarkation was very smooth with no problems and we were quickly on the ship and in our room. We have a lovely Silver Suite with enough storage space to pack several more suitcases of clothes in. This morning we are anchored at Fowey (pronounced FOY) which is in ... read more

TODAY Ron and I (Dennis) toured the corniches of the Cote D'Azur.. We left the Muse in Monte Carlo and drove via the upper corniche to the little town of La Turbie high on the mountain. The view of Monaco below was fabulous. We saw the Alpentrophy, a huge stone monument to Augustus built by the romans in 6 B.C. It was a quaint little town of narrow streets. Then it was on to Eze via the middle corniche where we had climbed to the castle on top in October. This time I sat in a cafe and had a Coke Zero. We then went to Nice and saw the War Memorial (WWI) the beach and Promenade des Anglais and the Negresco hotel and the main plaza before returning on the lower corniche through Villafranche and ... read more

today we sailed into the beautiful port of Portofino. Well actually we tendered in. We are having a private tour today arrange by Leah. Our guide met us aat the tender disembarcation pier with a boat and driver. We hopped into the speed boat and off we went. We first went up the coast to San Fructuoso. This is a beautiful site right on the coast where there is an old monastery. There is small pebble beach there. At one time the water came right up to the bottom of the monastery and the boats could go in underneath of the building. After a landslide in the 1600's half of the building was swept down toward the sea and filled in the beach area. There were once 12 monks in residence in the monastery but it ... read more

Today Ron and I started from Olbia, Sardinia in a 4x4 with a couple from New Zealand and headed first for San Giacomo, an are off mountain dirt roads where several old churches were built. The tour had a rest stop there with Sardinian wine, cheese and prosciutto. Next we went off road agian to the tomb of the giants, a several thousand year old stone tomb with giant stone monoliths guarding it. then it was on to a beautiful little village called San Pantaleo which had a nice piazzale overlooking a beautiful mountain escarpment. From there we went to the resort town of Porto Cervo, originally founded by the Agha Kahn in 1962 and now a very upscale resort town of multi-million dollar villas and top designer stores. It was a god day and the ... read more

Today we are in Sicily. The cruise from Brindisi was very smooth and uneventful. We are putting in at Naxos. This is a port founded by the Greeks in 300 BC. It is a very popular summer resort because of its beaches and seaside location. Taormina is way above Naxos up on the cliff. And of course in the background is Mt. Aetna with small steam comping out of the top vent. We meet with our guide Paola and rid for about 45 minutes to meet or cooking instuctor Monica Consoli. Monica's mother, Eleonora Consoli ran the school for many years and published cookbooks and appeared on television cooking shows. We meet Monica at the market in Catania called the Pescaria market. This is a very large market at the central square of Catania selling fruits ... read more

Today we came into the port of Brindisi. Brindisi is located down at the very heel of Italy. It has always been an important port to both the Greeks and Romans. Today we have a private tour. We met our guide Francesca at the gangway of the ship. We had a driver and a Mercedes van. The drive to Alberobello takes about 1.5 hours. The drive is quite scenic with the countryside being very flat. The soil is fertile so there are many crops grown in this area. As we approach Alberobello we start going up toward the top of a hill.. This is where alberbello is located. The big ridge of hills is formed of limestone.. So all the structures in this area are built of limestone. The houses are also whitewashed so they are ... read more

Last night sailing down the Adriatic we reached Croatia. The Dalmatian Coast is beautiful, dotted with many little islands. One of the larger islands (still quite small) is Trogir. Trogir is connected to the mainland by a bridge and to another island by a second bridge. No one lives on Trogir because it is too expensive and their is no place to park. Trogir was founded in the 3rd century BC by the Greeks. It was then inhabited by the Roman and then became a part of the Byzantine Empire. In 1420 the Venetians moved in and stayed until 1797. It only takes about one hour to explore the whole city. The streets are narrow and cobbled. There is a main square where there is a 15th century clock tower and a cathedral. The cathedral is ... read more

Yesterday was a wonderful day of rest on the Silver Muse. I think we are now readjusted since our trials in Philadelphia.. We rested on deck, Ron and Dennis napped and I got a memorable massage. We had a wonderful thin crust pizza for lunch and a great dinner at LaTerrazza. Last night we went out on our balcony to see Venice at night as we sailed down the Grand Canal. It always impresses me with its beauty. The old lady has not lost any of her charm and beauty. Today we are going to Dozza from the port of Ravenna. Dozza is a medieval city about 1 hour outside of Ravenna. It lies between Emilio and Romana. Emilio is very flat and agricultural whereas Romana is more hilly and planted mainly with vineyards. We walked ... read more

After being told that we definitely had rooms at the Airport Marriott, we got directed to baggage laim by two security guards at the airport and walked about 1.0 miles to Terminal B for the baggage. There were multiple flights being unloaded onto the same carousel with the result that the suitcases were all piling up and getting crushed as they tried to come off of the conveyor belt. Fortunately there was a young man there that helped us retrieve our cases. We then started off for the airport Marriott which we were told was in the B Terminal. The oly problem was that to get to it we had to go outside and walk in the street and then come back into the terminal go up one floor and then go into the marriott. As ... read more
