Geo: 3.12433, 101.684We woke up refreshed for our first breakfast at hotel. Joseph and Anita had a funeral so didn't pick us up till 11ish. We headed out to find a card for the phone (to enable us to use Google maps on my phone) and changed our old Singapore dollars for Malay currency. What a mixture of people and places near by, from a little girl weeing in the gutter, and laundry hanging everywhere, to highrises. Joe & Anita confessed to never having EVER been to the Bird Park, which boasts the largest free-flying aviary - so most birds were not in small displays. Saw the show with clever parrots and macaws, and just wandered around. Can we "count" these on our list of bird-watching :) ???Then we headed to the "Central Market" for lunch ... read more

Geo: 3.12433, 101.684We are so spoiled by Thai airways, where all foods are served on real china, real cutlery, etc. 2 hour flight from Bangkok to KL. Rented the small car and headed north. The map we have is useless. We discovered all roads are tolls. Quite a challenge to find out hotel as the big roads dumped us into the city at a place we couldn't find on the map. Finally stopped a second time to ask directions and an angel named Claudia offered to lead us there in her car. Crazy traffic. Great "service hotel" meaning we have 2burner stove, fridge, plates, etc. Not that we are going to cook! Joe and Anita are most gracious and insist on paying for just about everything. (They are due to retire soon and promise to visit ... read more

Geo: 13.7308, 100.521Only one more leg - a short one. Writing this from the a/p in Bangkok. The Thai airlines was even more comfy for sleeping, tho we may have done even less than on United. Food was Thai and great. And the attendants are most gracious and gentle - and many! Forgot to mention that the dinner on United ended with a make-your-own sundae! Boy, do we need to exercise!!!! ... read more

Geo: 48.8566, 2.35097Most pleasant overnight flight, getting some sleep in completely flat, stretch-out-your-legs bed. Not quite Singapore Airlines as there was no side pocket to put ones stuff, but alot of room, fancy food, all the wine and champagne we could drink (not much!) and nice service. This is a day of traveling, waiting, and resting up for 5 weeks of vigorous vacationing!!! Being able to wait in the Star Alliance lounge (and not with the masses) is quite nice. Will touch base again in Bangkok.... read more

Geo: 41.8861, -87.6364Dear friends and family,Just a quick entry from the United Club at O'Hare, enjoying our free snacky things awaiting a 6:15 pm (Central) flight to Paree. Ou est le loo? Yes, I'm ready. We drove to Chicago straight after church yesterday, and arrived at the Willer household just before 6pm. Roger and Carole have kindly allowed us to "park" our car with them for the 5 week duration of our trip, and are a wonderful Bed and Breakfast facility! Our visit with them was most pleasant, but we can't believe it's been that many years since they left NE Ohio! We visited them once after that but 23 years?! Love the fascinating variety of houses in their mature neighborhood. Thank you, Carole & Roger. We fly tonight on a Boeing 777, and for those ... read more

Geo: 41.1509, -81.3582This day two weeks from now we will be in Chicago staying with old friends Roger and Carole Willer, who have kindly offered to let us leave our car with them, and transport us to and from O'hare.Early in the morning of July 20th we got a "sharp" reminder that our circumnavigation of the globe was quickly approaching! Here is Jean with our friendly nurse at the Cleveland Clinic, who had just plunged the entire needle into each of our arms for the Hepatitis A shot! Tomorrow we take the last of our Typhoid tablets, and then we are fully prepared for Malaysia according to the doctor in the Travel Center. The injection was painless, but she really does bury it completely in your arm, and I swear that I saw it come out the ... read more
