Blessing or a Curse It could be a blessing or a curse to be so well known in a city half way across the world --- I'd say it's probably a blessing as you were treated so well. Very impressive. I happen to like camels and think they're interesting creatures. Wondering if camels store memories of or the scent of people. Shopping for camel bling! I'd do some Arabian horse bling shopping if I owned one!
Valeri ji! You are here! Really warmed my heart and made me smile to read this blog. We are minions on this planet but nice when someone when you least expect it knows your name and delights in meeting the face. At music festivals no one remembers my real name but always a thrill when unexpectedly I hear someone call, "Hey Dancing Dave". Was surreal when Denise & I were in the High Pamir of Tajikistan with Travel Camel & Dave & MJ when we met two New Zealand Travelbloggers Marie & Emma who exclaimed aghast, "Are you Dancing Dave? We read your blogs". Sometimes its a small world but it sounds like the World camel community is a close one! Great blog.
I'm happy that your walk with the camels and Raika erased the thought of the dying camels. The main reason I never want to return to India is the complete disregard or lack of compassion for people and animals. I visited Bombay when I was 8 years old. I still vividly recall the extreme poverty with the outcasts living and dying on the streets. I visit the Jain temple where the dead were being picked apart by buzzards. I have passed through India airports many times since then, but never stopped.
Sometimes we just have to step in... even if we are seen as being culturally arrogant. I remember when I was 12 years old I was taking a bus from the Bangkok port into the city. Traffic was stopped at the intersection with the main highway. Nothing was moving. So I got off the bus, walked to the intersection, and started directing traffic. I stopped twelve lanes of traffic, six in each direction, until my bus came by, whereupon I jumped on. Otherwise, I would still be there! I also did this in Pennsylvania, too, so I am not cultural arrogant!
You're doing it!! Thanks for sharing in this post, lots of human things to relate to and your willingness to share and be vulnerable is inspiring! Hope for your full recovery and safe travels, India looks amazing!
Rest well! Ah, Valeri, this resonates with me on so many levels. I hope you find your peace and rest during this trip. The world needs the beauty and love you pour out on a daily basis. <3 And eat some yummy food for me!! :)
Beautiful and fitting tribute Valerie, This is such a beautiful tribute to your Granny! I know she must be beaming and so very proud of you, as she always was. I love that Baby June will be able to live her life free and hopefully in good grace. Well done, Granny's Granddaughter!!!

Pretty darn good "random thoughts" about a fascinating place. I had some similar feelings/observations during my time in urban and rural Russia. Hope to be at Shamrock by Thursday.
