I'll be so alone without you I first fell in love with this song (and please, don't make fun of me) when I purchased the soundtrack to the first Shrek movie. It is my favorite song on the CD. I believe that was also about the time I first heard Roy mention how he loved that song, and planned to one day "see the marketplace in old Algiers."
I assume since we are hearing from you that all of your flights went smoothly and that you have already forgotten about the rest of us here, working, while you are enjoying your trip. :)
I can't wait to read more, and to see photos!
Love, Coye
I want to make a suit in Damascus Hi,
I was searching for a tailor in Damascus on the net and came across your blog. I'm very much interested in the subject and I visit Syria frequently. I would very much appreciate it if you can give me some information about where to go to find a really good tailor with good material as well. I know you mentioned it was in the old city but I'm not that acquainted with the city yet. Can you please provide more details about the exact location, name, address. Is there any particular tailor that you would recommend. How can I reach his shop.
Many thanks and appreciate your help.
Ahmed
Just finished reading your blog beginning to end. I thought three things, 1) wow, can't believe they WENT there, and 2) cool, now I can SEE it too (but I'm not near as adverturesome), and 3) you REALLY are funny. Maybe a travel book in your future? Thanks for sending the link. Glad you're back.
Welcome home! Just want to say that I have really enjoyed your blog! I kept meaning to comment, but it was always late at night (as it is now) and I never took the time. Since I'm just now reading what may be your last entry, thought I would let you know how interesting it was...and for what it's worth - I thought you were very funny! Hope to see you during football season. Sarah
Yea Adventure Travel! Thanks Valeri for keeping such elaborate updates. And yes, I did chuckle when you posted the ad for your mom...twice...very clever :) I am so jealous of your travels, and will have to get some pointers from you if I ever am able to head back East again!
Glad you're back! Sounds like a wonderful trip (for some people!) Enjoyed the blogs of the trip. Made me feel like I was there with you all. Good pictures. I know -- you're already planning your next trip -- where's it going to be???
Glad you are back! So glad to hear you all are back home SAFE and sound! I have enjoyed reading your blogs and have to admit I have learned a lot. The main thing being, just how lost I'd be over there, and HOT. Being 6 months pregnant I'm hot here when it gets above 80. What a different life style. How lucky we are to have the conveniences we have here in the US.
So glad you had such a great time. Welcome home!
Welcome home! Hope you've told your camels all the tales of travel. I loved looking over your shoulders on the journey. Great photos, even better writing! Tell me if Kyle's attorney skills improve when he's wearing that new suit. If so, maybe he could lend it to somebody on the Royals, or it may come in handy for a coach during football season at K-STATE.
Welcome home!
I noticed! What I thought was amazing was that you thought about the photo so packed the flyer. That type of organized thinking/planning is a dimmed memory of something I did a few times a long time ago. And, I love that you took a copy of the paper (!) and remembered to take a photo. I assume some photo with the news-record will be sent by e-mail (and perhaps the one with the little girl?) to be published.
The blog entries were all fascinating and entertaining. Thanks for the effort - alot of work and I completely enjoyed each of them.
Darn, I'll miss your stories Hi Val, I am a bit sad that your adventure has come to an end. I truly enjoyed absorbing your colorful descriptions of the Middle East and will miss reading your stories. I hope you have another trip planned in the near future, so that I might continue getting a "Valerie Travel Journal Fix". I may be asking for your advise, when I rebook my Middle East tour. JOY
Thanks for sharing Valeri, thanks for being so diligent in posting the updates. I looked forward each day to the newest blog to see all the interesting things the three of you were experiencing. I hate to see it end, and I know you do too.
Thanks again
Dan
Glad you all made it back safely and that you had such a good time! Also relieved to see that you all seem to still remember even with all your weeks away that eating is the most important part of every day. :) And for the record, I thought the pics with the flyers for the trunk sale hanging up were hilarious, so don't let the lack of comments get you down!
Glad your home safe Glad to hear that you made it home safe and sound. I am so sad that this is the end of the trip. I am going to miss the blogs. I always look forward to getting them. I guess you could say that they have been a highlight to the day! :) Thanks again for sharing with all of us! What an amazing trip. I have to admit at first when Roy said that you guys were going to the Middle East for vacation I could not figure why of all places you would go there. Now I understand and hope to go someday!
Glad to hear you made it back safe and had a great time! I hear it's suppose to be warm this weekend, so it looks like you brought the heat back with you. :)
Crepes and Studies Yep. I know that Crenshaw gesture. Both hands thrown in the air when the teacher asks for an answer. Response by Roy: HOW SHOULD I KNOW?!?
Chocolate banana crepes are also wonderful in Papeete, Tahiti at the Roulotte's. Little eating kiosks on wheels that are parked next to the beach every night and from which you can order about any crepe imaginable. I like Nutella and Banana crepes!
Camels Valeri, I just wanted to let you know that I'm getting in my truck right now to go tell Ciwa and Sarid that I saw you kissing another camel! Shame on you for cheating on them!
Hope you continue to have a great trip!
Meredyth
All I can say is WOW! Kyle and Valerie,
I asked Kim to forward me the blog you were sending her so I could read every word.... and I just did. What an amazing adventure you have had! I have THOROUGHLY enjoyed looking at the pictures and reading the narratives. I have been educated and intrigued. THANK YOU for sharing your experiences! I must say, I can't wait to see Kyle's BA suit! :)
Stop light timers Ah, yes...the stop lights in Hungary have timers as well. They tell you how many seconds until the light turns red and how many until it turns green again. I suppose it encourages people to "explode off the line," which could make for a dangerous situation when combined with people who like to try and squeeze through on a "pink" light. If I had to postulate, though, I would say that drivers are more likely to leave early than try to go through late when the light has a posted "schedule." Continued good travels to you all...
