Thanks for "taking me along". Hi Valerie,
A very belated thank you for allowing me to join Kyle, Roy and you on your N. Afr. journey. I am doing some "house keeping - ie deletions" on my gmail and found blogs which you sent while I was circumventing Iceland. I loved your comments and photos. I look forward to more "stories" from your future journeys...And where might that be? I think you would enjoy W. Afr. - especially Mali - camels, desert, Islam culture, etc. I know the U.S. State Dept. is discouraging travel there at this time, but I wonder if they are not overly cautious. I had a very enjoyable tour of Iceland - other than concern for geological dramas, it was a very a very stress free journey - unlike those that you and seem to prefer. JOY
What?! So . . . I must have been intentionally left off the list and was forced to go to great lengths to have your blog address sent to me via clandestine means through the ether. Tougher than carrier pigeons in a war zone! You all DO go to fascinating places! Welcome home to the heat of midwest America. I was at a Cubs game at Wrigley 2 weeks ago and the windchill was 36 degrees! Today heat index over 100! May have to go to north Africa where conditions are less extreme. Great to read about your trip. DRB
Glad you had such an amazing time! It's been great seeing the country I have lived in (Tunisia) for the last 18 months through the fresh eyes of a tourist. I guess we get so used to the post-revolution sights like tankes and razor wire that we don't even notice it any more! Looking forward to our next move in September - Algiers!!
Great connections I think I understood the livestock selection...except maybe the lizards. Is that for a producer with a lizard feedyard? What's the going rate on lizards?
The Facebook Revolution "The old road is rapidly agin' - get out of the new one if you can't lend a hand, for the times they are a changin' (btw, Bob Dylan turns 70 today)."
What an incredible journey you are on! It is absolutely terrific to see your photos of Tunis. Given the language challenges you have experienced, I am surprised to see so much of the graffiti in English. I suppose that's a result of all the cross-cultural connections afforded by technology, no?
Gifts Your gifts of planning, doing, writing and photography are too cool. FYI....This is the only blog of yours that has had a "submit comment" button...maybe I'm being censored.
The submit button has half appeared!!! Nice photos, really like the American cemetery shot and rooftop shots. I can't believe the prices you are paying. Is that because no tourists are there or is this normal? Tunis is looking like a destination for us perhaps.
Terrible storms in Ks but we missed them thank goodness. Eskridge had baseball size hail as did several other places around Topeka, several tornados and Reading got hit by one. 1 death lots of damage.
I love your blogs! Thanks for sending the blogs... I have absolutely loved reading them. You are such an incredible writer Valeri... you make me feel like I am actually there with you experiencing it all first hand. Stay safe and enjoy the rest of your journey's!
PS LOVE THE PICS - please keep attaching those!! :)

Valerie - once again I am enjoying a place I most likely never visit through your eyes and I anxiously await each new entry. Thank you! And, oh yes, Alec Baldwin has never been high on my favorite actors list so please bring Roy Crenshaw back!
Doors I, too, love photographing doors. One never tires of the vibrant blue color. Tunis was my destination 30+ years ago - spring break from teaching in Naples, IT. I also was enamored by this city.
Picture Perfect Doors I look forward to a slide show of doors. The shared photo was stunning and the blue, black and white blindingly beautiful. Thanks again for having the discipline to blog. The memories you can jog years from now will be enhanced from these blogs. The journal you gave me, Valeri, still lies open - with perhaps one paragraph from our Paris trip last year and one from our New Orleans trip this year.
OMG!! I can totally see how this would cause Roy to get the big head. You do realize that you will never, ever live this down! Those of us who know him fear we will never hear the end of it either.
Your trip sounds intriguing and I look forward to your entries. Enjoy and be safe!
How could you ever be tired of the paparazzi?!! That is a kid after my own heart! I'm glad I found your posts, Valeri! I'll do some catching up and follow your trip from now on :)
How to be famous without really trying My favorite northern caribbean country is New Orleans. And, I am delighted when tourists think I am New Orleans and am also part of the French Quarter Festival leadership....so, enjoy your false fame, Roy.
Ugh.... Ok, your dad is going to be TERRIBLE to work with after all of this attention!!! I'm just so thankful for your blog--otherwise we would have no idea to get prepared for the movie star attitude that we'll be facing in the office next week!
Really, I'm not too worried--this kind of "diva" attitude is nothing a few days working with all of us can't cure. ;)
Have fun and stay safe!
yesterday's blog It took me a few minutes, but I figured out who you met yesterday! Great, great people, very nice.
On a side note, I think I may have just heard Jenny in Abilene vomit from disgust over the Alec Baldwin thing...
