I know India well, but have never ventured over to Sri Lanka - your blog and great photos suggest a visit is long overdue.

India is next for us
Sri Lanka, yes is wonderful. The prices after India may be a a shock. We are off to India next, and after the visa process we may need some luck

Beautifully written!
Really enjoyed the description of the train ride. I agree. I wouldn't want to travel any other way.

Fascinating
Absolutely fascinating! There are waaay more than 6 people who read your blog. Which is an awful moniker. Your travel accounts are so much more than a "blog". You bring the places you visit to life, enriching your readers with a sense of the countries or cities histories. Allowing us a glimpse into the daily lives of its peoples. You and Penny are the polar opposite of "comfortably humdrum". As one who has traveled to mundane locales, I am envious. Thank you not only for the incredible insight into Iran, but for taking the time to share your fantastic adventures with the rest of us. Roger

and the winner is...
Hi Gary! Another brilliant post! very entertaining - I didn't know you had it in you! Just in case you hadn't heard, the 2012 Trainer of the Year was..... the Bottlo! Not bad given that he finished off the year geting over a hernia operation (uncontrolled sneezing from bad hayfever so he reckons, I wonder how he'd be if he wasn't training!). The Honda is doing fine - I didn't know there was a car that could make my Corolla seem powerful, but it's been great to us. Wok, Mick & all the boys are well. Take care & God bless :)
31st December 2012

About time
The Bottlo was overdue although that's a lame excuse for a hernia. I'll try and send him an email.glad the car is still kicking. Any chance you'd like to sell it back when we return?

Happy New year. Speaking of comebacks, I made my volleyball comeback on Saturday after a similiar hiatus. Seemed like a good idea at the time , but three days later , still feeling like I should be in a retirement village somewhere. A kayak around the bay this morning loosened me up for the challenges of new years eve.

Surfing companion
Hi Gary and Penny I see you in Sri Lanka at present. I have two other friends there at present, Tony Van Merrick and his wife and daughter. Keep an eye out for them, they will be in the surf. I'm sure Tony will sort you out with a board if you see meet him. Have a good NY. From what I remember, Sir Lankans know how to celebrate. Just don't mention the cricket!! Rod

Off to the hills for a week then back to the coast. I will look up your mate if he's still around. Thanks.

List gets longer
Now you just added Iran on my list! I have yet to open my Lonely Planet book on Iran. Been with me for years. Your blog did to me what that " lonely" book failed to do.

Great lunch
Hope you get over your trauma soon, Penny, think you were wise to pretend to eat the regurgitated food!

The Corniche Mutrah

Wonderful photo
Interesting to read about Oman.
17th December 2012

I had the chance to visit Oman 5 times for work, in which I was able to squeeze in some fun. Beautiful country and great people. Unfortunately, accommodation is not cheap (prices compare to US prices) and there is no public/mass transit system. You might have noticed on the roads a couple bus stops with a gazelle sign on them - having spent about 3 months there, all trips combined, I'm yet to see a single bus.
18th December 2012

It's getting there
Yes, the accommodation prices are ridiculous compared to everything else. There is some bus transport now but there's a long way to go.
