Cocoa Beach to St. Augustine - 42°c I woke up slightly earlier than I needed to this morning since I wanted to take some photos of the early morning sun over the beach and pier from my room’s balcony. The sky was still a lovely pink colour and it was well worth the early start to the day to capture the moment as the sun came up over the horizon. We left the hotel around 8am so as to head to St Augustine, our last stop in Florida. Just under an hour later we arrived at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral where we had trip-included admission. As one of the first ones at the center, we were amongst the first through security and able to get a head start on some of the space exhibits. ... read more

Miami to Cocoa Beach - 41°c After such a big night out last night, I wasn’t particularly thrilled to hear my alarm going off at 7am this morning, but nevertheless got up, picked up my suitcase that I thankfully packed last night, and headed down to another buffet breakfast. I met up with Nathan, Tim and Danni on the way in, so we shared a table, and although I wasn’t particularly hungry, I managed to eat a fair bit to say I did justice to a breakfast buffet! After breakfast, we boarded the bus and got on our way towards Cocoa Beach at 8am. I seem to be getting used to getting comfortable enough to sleep on the bus, and managed to drift off for a while before we arrived at our first stop at Port ... read more

Miami - 40°c After a good night’s rest, which helped a lot, I woke up this morning not feeling too bad, but still with a cough, sore throat and a blocked nose. I dosed myself up on the medication I bought in the hotel gift shop last night before I went to bed, and headed down to breakfast. It was probably the best breakfast of the trip so far, with a buffet of eggs, bacon, sausages, breads, pastries, cheeses, hams, cereals and fruit. I had a good plateful, determined to keep my energy levels up and try to make it through the day. One third of the group got on the bus at the hotel and headed down to South Beach Miami, whilst the other two thirds of the group were either still fast asleep, or ... read more

Orlando to Miami - 34°c After yesterday’s very long day at the Magic Kingdom, I woke up this morning with a very sore throat and a bit of a cold. - Perhaps a tell tale sign that I’m getting run down from the early mornings, long days and late nights. I guess when there’s so much to see in such a short space of time, there’s very little time for rest in between stops. Anyway, I “sucked it up”, (as many of Aussies on our bus say) kept smiling and kept going for as long as I could, as best I could. We left our Kissimmee hotel at 7:30am and begun our journey down to the Everglades. I managed to fall asleep for the majority of the journey, so don’t have much to say about that ... read more

Orlando - The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World - 37°c I was awake a good while before my alarm went off at 6:45am whilst I was in the bathroom, having to run back out into the bedroom to turn it off before it woke Nathan and Tim next door! It was definitely excitement that woke me up. Knowing somewhere in the back of my subconscious during my slumber how exciting the activity of today was going to be, definitely kept me awake at several intervals during the night! Once ready long before I needed to be, I met up with James, Steve and (Brit) Danielle at our arranged meeting point and caught the free shuttle bus to the Magic Kingdom that the hotel provides. After getting our tickets, we headed over from the Transportation and ... read more

Pensacola to Orlando - 33°c Pardon the lack of content in today’s blog, but today was one of the least active and least interesting days of the tour. It was the day with the most travelling and most miles covered so far, with nearly 11 hours on the road (including a one hour lunch stop and a few quick rest stops), right the way down the centre of the sunshine state of Florida, from Pensacola to Orlando. After waking up around 7:15am, we left our Pensacola hotel at 7:45am and started our trip to the fun capital of the world! In between our stop for lunch in Tallahassee and one of our rest stops in Gainesville, I managed to catch up with some sleep on the coach whilst several of the others watched ‘Pirates of the ... read more

Day 21 New Orleans to Pensacola - 35°c With a 9am departure this morning, I managed to get in a really good night’s sleep for the first time in a while, enabling me to catch up on some of the lost slumber hours that have mounted up over the past 2 weeks of the Contiki tour. Once packed up, ready and our cases loaded onto the bus, we all went round and said our goodbyes to those we were leaving behind in New Orleans, including Scott, Naman and Andre. Kirsty and Sam had left the day before, as had some of the others. It was so sad to be saying goodbye to the 3 guys and gave us all a glimpse into what it will be like in 2 weeks time when we’re saying our final ... read more

New Orleans - 38°c (plus humidity levels through the roof!) After a fantastic (but late) night out last night, I didn’t wake up until 9:30am, which made a good change since I needed the extra rest. From 9:30am onwards, it seemed as thought the entire coach party was knocking on mine and Scott’s bedroom door and coming in for a chat at some point or another! I didn’t actually get to look outside the room window, but I did wonder if there was a queue forming around the corner! Subsequently I didn’t get to leave the hotel until 11:45am, when I headed to the Burger King around the corner from the hotel for a bit of late breakfast / early lunch with Michelle, Marnee, Lauren, (Aussie) Danni, Scott and Tim. After our food whilst everyone else ... read more

Memphis to New Orleans - 33°c After having a relatively chilled out day yesterday, alongside a fairly early night and a good night’s sleep, I woke up feeling very refreshed and ready for the long driving day ahead. Waking up at 7:15am, Scott and I got ourselves and all of our belongings ready and down for the coach departure at 7:45am. I managed to doze off back to sleep again during the first two hours of the journey before we stopped off for a quick restroom break just on the Tennessee and Mississippi boarder. Another two hours into the journey we stopped off in Jackson, Mississippi for an hour for everyone to grab some lunch. Joey and I headed to Subway and I had a really good foot-long turkey and ham sub, being very hungry after ... read more

Memphis - 33°c Somehow I managed to get up early enough this morning to make the bus to Graceland! We departed for Graceland soon after 8am, and Scott and I were definitely still a bit drunk when we woke up after our three and a half hour sleep! We were still giggling as much as we were the night before and running on the adrenalin of the night before too. We arrived at Graceland just before 9am and were some of the first people there. - I guess Kristina wanted to get us there as early as possible to avoid the queues later on in the day. Our first point of interest was to head to Graceland mansion, otherwise known as Elvis Presley’s home. What surprised me first of all as we pulled into Graceland, was ... read more
