Anaheim - 30°c After a week of non-stop action, I was desperate for a day of chilling out. Once I’d had a bit of a lie-in and headed down for a few pieces of toast, I came back up to the room and sorted out some washing before the tour starts tomorrow, whilst several people headed out to both Laguna and Newport beaches. Having seen Santa Monica beach on Saturday, I decided I didn’t really need to see another one and would rather spend the day doing my own thing and taking stock after 7 consecutive days of action. Up in my room I sorted out my suitcase since I’m still finding it so hard living out of a suitcase properly. Spending just a few days in a hotel room and then on to the next ... read more

Disneyland Park, Anaheim, California - 31°c After yesterday’s crazily exhausting day at Disney’s California Adventure Park, there was no time for let up! Today was all about park number two, and so ladies and gentlemen of blog-world, allow me to introduce the first, the classic, the original since 1955, the one that started it all off, Disneyland park California!! Although I’ve been to Florida so many times now, there was something quite special about heading here today. There’s of course always something special about heading to any Disney park, especially one I’d never been to before, but this was particularly special because of the history and significance attached to it. The place where the main man Mr Walt Disney originally laid all of his theme park ideas out and had them come to life way back ... read more

Disneyland Resort California - Anaheim 32°c After a fairly good night’s sleep last night probably thanks to the cocktails I consumed the night before and a degree of tiredness catching up with me, I still woke up an hour or so before my alarm and made use of the free Wi-Fi internet connection before the rest of the hotel logged on to it. Once the alarm went off, Joey and I packed up our things to check out of our hotel room, since our first night was arranged direct with the hotel and the following three nights booked via Contiki. A bit ridiculous really that we couldn’t just stay in the same room since it’s not as though we’re actually going anywhere and were both remaining at the same hotel, but regardless, check out we did ... read more

Hollywood, Los Angeles, 37°c (102°f) Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later, but today the mercury reached triple figures for the first time on my trip! Just after 12pm we reached 102°f! As I got up this morning it felt as though it was going to be hotter than any of the other days so far. A little unexpected for it to happen so soon into the trip, especially here in LA. Whilst LA isn’t immune from these kinds of “Vegas” temperatures, apparently according to locals, it’s not a regular thing for LA to get quite this hot. - Upon hearing such a fact, I couldn’t work out if that made us lucky or not?! After getting up early again and having another night of 5 hours sleep (every night without fail, 5 hours! ... read more

Hollywood and Santa Monica 28°c Up and at ‘em nice and early again this morning! Trying to maximise every single hour of the day to get the most out of our time. After sending a couple of emails back home this morning, I ventured out down to meet the girls around 8:30am, where we went and did the hand and footprints over at the Chinese Theatre before too many other tourists people arrived. However even at that time it was busy, but we managed to get some really great shots of the prints and us each putting our hands in them. It’s pretty amazing in it’s way that there are hand and footprints there dating back over 70 years or more, of celebrities both still alive and those who aren’t. The prints were really impressive and ... read more

Los Angeles - 31°c After not getting much sleep last night, I surprised myself by being so awake and so raring to get back out there again at 5am this morning, for ‘another day in paradise’ - as the shuttle bus driver said yesterday in reference to Los Angeles ever smiling sun. Despite getting what was at the maximum just five hours sleep, I think it was the adrenalin within me that kept me so well and truly energised and enthusiastic. Although there are some definite black shadows hanging around under my eyes, they’re the only sad part of me. The rest of me is so, so happy and having just the best time I’ve had in so long, possibly ever. After getting myself ready for a full day out, I headed out onto the sun-soaked ... read more

20°c London / 35°c Los Angeles Well hello from Hollywood! Coming to you from my hotel on Hollywood Boulevard at 5am on what is technically day 2, but is my first opportunity to write up my blog thus far. Yes, you read correctly, 5am! I’ve already been awake half an hour, and according to the not-so-gentle stomps I can hear coming from the room upstairs directly above mine, whoever’s up there has been up even longer! Crossing the globe does strange things to a person’s body clock, and mine’s screaming out “What the hell time is it?!”. - Perhaps that’s their excuse for being up so early too. Despite having what was actually a 27 hour day yesterday (because of the time-zone shift) without sleeping, I’ve now just had about 4 hour’s sleep, and that seems ... read more

Well, this is it! Thirty-one days away touring the grand old United States of America from west coast to east, LA to NY starts here! It was only a couple of hours ago after Mum and Dad dropped me off at the hotel next to Heathrow airport and we said our goodbyes that it all began to feel suddenly very, very real. Having never been away from my family and friends for any longer than two weeks, as I sit here in the hotel room waiting for the excitement of what tomorrow morning brings to subside to allow me to get some sleep, I’m feeling a true mixture of emotions, and reflecting on the magnitude of it all. I’ve always been interested in America. Even from a young age there was always excitement surrounding it (probably ... read more
