Tuesday 6/2 On Tuesday, I woke up late around 10:40am and bummed around the hostel taking care of things and what not until around 2pm. Then, I went to the cathedral and Alcazar. The cathedral is really beautiful and impressive from the outside. However, I wasn't that interested inside. The climb up the tower was tiring, but the view of Sevilla at the top was definitely worth it. Alcazar was nice although I almost don't remember what it was like on the inside thinking back on it a week later. In the gardens of Alcazar I met these study abroad students who were mostly from Penn State. They were studying for a test in their flamenco class. In the evening, I went on a tapas and flamenco bar tour with the hostel. In my opinion, the ... read more

Sunday 5/31 From Paris, I took the overnight train to Madrid, and on the train I met these girls from Kansas. One of them knew Michael Warady because she went to high school in Overland Park with his sister. Small world. In the middle of the night, the guy sitting across the aisle from me got arrested by these French policeman possibly because of his passport. When we got on the train, I thought it was bizarre that he handed the train conductor a piece of paper as his passport, and he was very fidgety. I slept through the whole incident and only knew about it because the girls from Kansas told me the story the next morning. When we arrived in Madrid, I went with the girls to their hostel so I could leave my ... read more

Wednesday 5/27 In the morning, I took the Metro to the center of the city. I walked along the Seine river, checking out the Petit Palais and the Jardin de Tuileries. The Petit Palais is a free art museum in which I spent an hour or so. The Jardin de Tuileries was very nice and symmetrical, but I prefer the Jardin de Luxembourg because it doesn't have as much empty space. But the Parisians love their grand walkways, and the Jardin de Tuileries definitely has that. After relaxing for a bit, I went to the St. Michel fountain in the Latin Quarter for a free walking tour of Paris. Sandemans New Europe is this company that has free tours in almost every major European city. The tour guide works for tips so in the end, you ... read more

I took the overnight train from Munich to Paris and arrived Sunday Morning at Gare de l'Est. After I dropped off my bag at St. Christopher's Hostel, I tried to walk to Gare St. Lazare. However, after about 30 minutes and still nowhere near the train station, I realized I had to take the Metro. From St. Lazare, I rode the 1.5 hour train to Rouen, a city to the north of Paris. Once, one of the largest and richest cities of Medieval Europe, Rouen was where Joan of Arc was burnt in 1431. I spent a couple of hours walking around the city and taking in the Gothic Architecture. I was on my way back to Paris after a visit to Rouen's Notre Dame Cathedral. Too tired to do anything else, I called it a ... read more

Wow, I am tired! Quick update: Munich is still awesome. I'm on the train to Paris. Longer update: I woke up some time before 7 am this morning. I know; it's outrageously early for a Saturday morning. The bright sun shining through my window told me otherwise. I thought I had overslept and was surprised to find out it was only 6:40. Two of the people in my room were girls' lacrosse players from Cologne, Germany, and they were leaving just as I was wiping my eye boogers. The other two people I shared the room with I met the night before--Jose and Estibaliz, two Erasmus students from Spain studying music and architecture, respectively, in Germany. Their school year doesn't end till late July, but they had a four-day weekend so they decided to travel a ... read more

I flew out of Houston yesterday afternoon on Lufthansa, and arrived this morning in Frankfurt, Germany. Since all drinks on Lufthansa international flights are free, including alcoholic ones, I tried a Campari Orange, an aperitif, that my flight neighbor recommended. It was kind of bitter but still enjoyable, and probably the only thing I enjoyed on that flight. It was too long and too cramped for my liking. Spending 10 hours in the smallest possible window seat and unsuccessfully trying to fall asleep at 6 PM Houston Time/ 1 AM Frankfurt Time isn't something I'm looking forward to doing again, unsurprisingly. My flight neighbor was quite chatty. A sprightly woman of maybe 50 years, she lived in Austin and planned on visiting her mother in Germany for 10 days. As she scanned through a German magazine, ... read more
