And second - awesome blog! it\'s funny and gives the reader a more accurate feel for what Siberia is really like than any other blog I\'ve read on here. While most tourists take the train across Siberia and get off at one or two large towns, you went out to the villages, met the locals, experienced their hospitality, the harshness of their environment and some of the weird little cultural quirks and it makes for a great read. молодец!
Я люблю Россию!! Wow Ed...coming from you that is so cool! спасибо!! I barely scratched the surface of Siberia, but the experiences I had and the people I met were nothing less than wonderful. I see why you love it. You were right, I am hooked on the culture and want more. When I do my Eastern Europe trip I will go back for sure!
Wow Andrea, I have to say that this is probably the best blog I have read on here. Thank you for telling such a vivid, humorous tale of a place I will doubtfully ever visit.
You've been everywhere Hi! When you told me that I've been to places you'd dream of going I couldn't imagine you've been to so many places yourself. It's amazing!!!!
This world is so beautiful. Ah yes, but you have been to some way-out-of the-way places I only hope to see someday. Very lucky man you are. Where is home? Or are you a permanent Nomad? What is next? I will follow you vicariously...lol. Andrea
oh PLEASE 3 camels, girl? with your mad tobogganing and writing skills, I'd demand at least 5. :) thank you for another transportative laugh and distraction from my day.
Excellent!! My cousin used to live in a Ger in a small ger community outside Kelly, Wyoming. I've wanted to go to Mongolia since that time to have the real experience. What a fantastic trip! Wish we had been with you. The people are the reason to travel. What grand experiences you've had.
Wonderful stuff :) I really must experience Mongolia one day! I do love the aroma of wet horse and peeing in bottles in the dead of night. It all adds to the wonderful experience of travelling :D
Laugh out loud Ok, I know I already left a comment two days ago but for some reason when I was sitting in my office this afternoon I suddenly burst out laughing (twice) thinking of the line "must be that dodgy video I made a few years ago..." I mean it was funny at the time, but two days later it was even funnier! Just thought I'd share...
Lingers like a stink Yep, that's my humour alright...like a fart that lingers. Often I burst out laughing while driving my car thinking about a ridiculous convo I had a week prior....Glad I'm not the only one this happens to.
BEAUTIFUL BEIJING Nice to see you have discovered Beijing...saw plenty...but just a speck of what China has to offer...nice to see you are on the road again...Mongolia watch out.
Kaapow! Zing! Blam! Kazow! What a great way to end the day I've had. You've given me laughter again. Thanks. We always love reading what you have to say. Love the humor. It looks like a good place for a siesta. And we long to have Peking Duck in China. We cook it from time to time at home and would like to experience it in the homeland.
Looking forward to the Trans Siberian adventure.
"I wasn’t sure what the hell was going on, but after a few group photos, everyone was happy and all smiles as I left." ...that pretty much sums up traveling in asia. :) "For me, I’d rather lick toilet bowls than shop." i think we'd get along just fine...glad my boss walked by when i accidentally blast out a laugh at this one. excited to see you traveling again - my entertainment has been rather thin lately and i need to get into blogging mode for our next (albeit short) adventure. happy travels! alisa
Andrea, once again an outstanding blog I'm so glad you took the time to tell this story. The photos are fantastic. Loved the comparison of the trip you made as a child and the current trip. You really have some writing talent. I think you should consider doing some professional writing. It is good to have a mountain man along on adventures. Can't wait to read your next blog.
Early next week we will be booking our fall travels plans. I'll write you once they are complete. We may vacation in Canada--however, we won't be close to you.
Happy Travels
This Canadian girl's passion for travel comes from my adventurous parents. My brother and I spent most of our youth traveling all over North America in the family’s camper van, airplane, and boat - going as far west as the Hawaiian islands, as far north as Tuktoyaktuk, and as far south as Mexico doing lots of adventurous stuff...canoeing, surfing, fishing, camping, hiking, skiing, exploring, jellyfish poking...it was the best childhood ever!
That same adventurous spirit fueled my travel passion for over 30 years. I’ve been all over the shop. Now that I'm newly retired, I split my lif... full info
