HERE'S TO YOU...CHEERS Wonderful to read of your industry and inspiration Andrea. Blow me over with a feather...Canadian Okanagan wine...gotta try some of that.
we're always up for a good snootful of wine... loved this blog on your vineyard, sounds like quite the adventure. what a great idea to use the inflatable dancing man to scare off birds! :)
What a fascinating blog... we've only visited the vineyards in St Catherine's near Niagara Falls and were surprised that they grew grapes there. We were told that this was the same latitude as Rome, and there is a lot of wine grown north of Rome in Europe and apparently in your micro-climate. When is your harvest? Sounds like fun. We were thinking of driving as far north as we could in North America...Inuvit in Northwest Territories, so could perhaps stop on the way back to help with the picking...the wine sounds good but the wasps don't!
Sipping a snootful Outstanding! As a lover of the grape I truly enjoyed reading about your vineyard. Hopefully, someday I can find a bottle and have a taste. Oh and we will take a look under the couch cushions for that $1,000,000 as we want to be supportive.
Maybe someday come to the Okanagan, lover of grape! Our wines interestingly tastes of my blood, sweat and tears!! ha ha Thanks for your kind offer of couch lint, and have a wonderful christmas Dave and Merry Jo! Wishing you lots of happy travels in the new year.
Lovely part of the world. Didn't believe it was possible to grow grapes in Canada until I visited the Okanagan myself. The challenges clearly make a quality product even more highly prized. We'll try to drop by some time, preferably in autumn, to help you with the harvest. No, really!
Thanks for the offer Jason! And you are right, seems almost impossible but we are living proof! I wish you and your little family a very merry christmas. Cheers!
Information If this is a blog dedicated to the tourist areas, do not see why talking about politics and socioeconomcas conditions of the population that welcomes visitors and serves great, I mean the input information with the image of the Mexico flag.
A fabulous reminder! I enjoyed reading your blog which I stumbled upon. You write extremely well and your photos are gorgeous!
My husband and I live in Seattle and we did this trip around Bowron Lakes, about 6 years ago with our 2 sons, who were 11 and 13 years old at the time, in two sea kayaks. We loved the adventure and the incomparable scenery, but we unfortunately had some difficulties with portage as you did. We had the wheel carriers but at every portage we had to unpack and repack and carry as much as possible to re-position and unburden the load. This took a long time with young kids, and we definitely took way too much with us! So much so that we gave away food en route to others and we burnt the just released latest Harry Potter hard cover which my sons couldn't do without until they had both read it by halfway! It had got wet and weighed twice as much too. We all loved the family experience and like your family have been on many other adventures since. Whilst my husband was back home in Sydney, my sons and I went to Desolation sound kayaking and camping 130 miles in 6 days this summer. We love Canada, the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful!
Thank you for your kind compliments Ingrid! I'm so glad your family enjoyed the Bowron lakes. Those kind of memories will stay with your children always. Cheers!
The way you convey your story is so entertaining -thank you. I also think you answered your own question by participating in all those activities with strangers -you obviously used your instinct and trusted them. What a magic place you have shared with us . Thank you
Heaven and Hell The contrast between your magical, idyllic, touching week in Baja and your heavy life in Canada was painful to read. I wonder if you can bring some of the Mexican vibe home? Maybe a daily escapes like walks in nature to remind you of the beauty and wonder of life. I've always been a pleasure freak, needing daily doses of magic and laughter; please ignore me if you think me unrealistic. Incidentally, the story of your gifts to the family touched me deeply, and I'm sure the family will be retelling the tale for long years to come.
Jobs take a toll Another lovely story Andrea. It warmed me to read about your rejuvenation. The soul of baja is good for you. You've had a lifelong connection with this location and it always helps you center yourself. I doubt the adventurer Andrea is gone for long. It must be an amazing feeling knowing when you are off track you can go to this wonderfully isolated beach and come back to who you need to be. You have a kind heart. 2000 pesos was generous and yet what they gave you was priceless. Thanks for sharing.
Glad I took a moment for your story. This is the side of tourism that many don't (or refuse to) see. Thanks for exposing the conditions faced by those who invisibly create the "resort holiday" that many take as a given.
You're my hero. This blog is awesome. What an incredible story. I think you were in the right place at the right time. Thank you so much for sharing this with the world.
Trip to Cuba I was there in 2003 nearly 10 years ago. I spent 2 weeks and travel from Havana by train to Santiago de Cuba and from Santiago de Cuba to Trinadad by cab which was an over night trip. Great Trip! I would love to go back.
This Canadian girl's passion for travel comes from my adventurous parents. My brother and I spent most of our youth traveling all over North America in the family’s camper van, airplane, and boat - going as far west as the Hawaiian islands, as far north as Tuktoyaktuk, and as far south as Mexico doing lots of adventurous stuff...canoeing, surfing, fishing, camping, hiking, skiing, exploring, jellyfish poking...it was the best childhood ever!
That same adventurous spirit fueled my travel passion for over 30 years. I’ve been all over the shop. Now that I'm newly retired, I split my lif... full info
