Art Deco
I love the art deco architecture in Miami! I had to laugh at your comment about Denny's (they are very common here and honestly, not considered that great, but glad you liked it!). What a wonderful trip you had to Florida!

Everglades
Great photos Alex! What a cool place to visit. I didn't know how to tell the difference between alligators and crocodiles, so thanks for that!

Everglades
Thanks Lori! I really enjoyed the Everglades, and loved that it was just bursting with wildlife! It was interesting to learn the difference between an alligator and a crocodile, although both looked equally intimidating to me!

Did you get palace fatigue?
I guess you were in Germany too short a time to develop palace fatigue. When we were there last summer we spent about three weeks there. We then decided to skip visiting most palaces in order not to get tired of them. It easily happens in a country that has so many of them as Germany does. /Ake

Palaces
You're right - I was there for just a short time, so I was happy to see all the beautiful palaces. I can imagine three weeks of them might have been enough though!

Cologne Cathedral

The cathedral was cool and nice
When we were in Cologne last summer it was one of the warmest days of the year. We went into to the cathedral several times just because it was relatively cool in there. /Ake

Cool Cathedral
Ah, I can imagine that - I was there in early June and it was already quite warm.

Back to Germany
Dave here.....your blogs make us want to go back to Germany. Have not been there since 2012 and there is much more to see! Cheers!

Germany
Hi Dave. I hope you get to go back to Germany. It seems such a beautiful country, and beyond Berlin and Munich, seems very much off the travellers' radar. Thanks for reading and commenting 😊

Bonn, Determination and Resilience
I would love to explore this area and learn more about Beethoven. Travel affords us many educational opportunities. Wow!... Villa Hammerschmidt.... I would love to take that tour. I'll have to keep that in mind when we head that way. That was really nice of the guide to translate some of the tour into English. Koblenz sounds like a hidden gem. I'm glad you added it to the itinerary. I've been longing to go to Europe again.... hopefully, soon. Travel on my friend. MJ

My Accommodation in Cologne

Cologne
This blog makes me want to book a flight to Germany. We were discussing yesterday that we'd like to go back to Germany as we have not seen enough of it. I want to stay in this place. It looks perfect! I think this mid summer break trip will catch on! You are so good with languages. Our friend Brendan is pretty good also. I admit as hard as I try I struggle a great deal. I'm tone deaf and I think that compounds my ability to hear the different tones. Keep exploring.

My Accommodation in Cologne

Cologne
Thanks Merry! Nice to hear my blog on Germany could be inspiring a bit of a return trip there for yourselves. I'm finding Germany quite intriguing at the moment - so near, but many parts of it seem not so much on the international tourist radar as other European destinations. Well done on at least trying with languages, it's definitely one of the ways into a local culture - as is food! Thanks for reading, commenting and encouraging :)

Key Largo
When I hear "Key Largo" I always think of that Humphrey Bogart/Lauren Bacall movie of the same name (it wasn't filmed there though). The turtle hospital sounded great, and those key deer are so cute! Glad to hear they are working at preserving them.

Key Largo
Ah, I thought there was a film of that name, but didn't look into it - thank you for confirming, I shall look out for it! Yes, I loved the turtles and key deer, definitely a highlight of the Keys for me :) Thanks for reading Lori :)

Bienvenida a Miami
For most people Miami is a city they really like or really dislike - there is not much in between. There is a large number of Spanish speaking people in the area so it is a great place to practice language skills. The irritates some Americans especially when they are in the airport and can't find someone who speaks English. We didn't ask where you were staying in the Miami area- yes you picked a nice location. We have not seen robot waiters .... I guess we need to go to Miami! I love your descriptions of this vibrant city. If you thought it was hot in April I'm glad you didn't visit in August. Personally, I think we need to move past the Cuba issues of the past and build relationships. I loved reading this blog and getting caught up on the rest of your trip. We enjoyed meeting you and look forward to you coming back to Florida. You will enjoy California next year. Happy travels.

Miami
I think I'm the kind of tourist who really likes Miami. It was definitely different to other US cities I've been to, and as they say seems to have one foot in North America and one in Latin America. I'm very glad I wasn't there in August! I completely agree on the need to move past the Cuba issue now, and enjoyed learning about Little Havana whilst there after having spoken about the issues with you earlier on my trip. I very much enjoyed meeting you both too, and look forward to returning 😊 Thanks for reading, and following on for the rest of my trip 😊

Art Deco Architecture

Art Deco buildings
I love Art Deco architecture so I am sure I would like Miami. The building in the picture is simply awesome. I love all three of the "Arts" by the way: Art Deco, Art Nouveau and Art Garfunkel. /Ake

Art Deco
Lol, that's funny - the three "Arts"! I'm sure you'd love Miami South Beach then. I very much enjoyed my wander there, taking in such amazing buildings and architecture 😊
