Beef Claypot Rice

Claypot
I have Asian friends who are crazy for claypot dishes, but I've never really understood the hype. I've mostly had the Thai and Malaysian versions with vermicelli noodles, so I probably should try the Chinese rice version - it looks good :)

Fusion architecture
I've never heard the term Diaolou and I'm intrigued by your descriptions and photos of them. It's sad that so many of them are abandoned, but making it a tourist attraction and charging a ticket price will hopefully mean the houses will be preserved in some form. Thanks for sharing this unique experience with us :)

Thousand Buddha Tower Temple

Errr...
... looks painful :)

Thousand Buddha Tower Temple

Hahaha
Yes, it does. It did make me chuckle though.

Thousand Buddha Tower Temple
I love the sound of this temple. And you're right, that beautiful bell tower would have been amazing to climb!
30th November 2023

It was a lovely temple. A nice place to linger. Thanks for reading.

Steamed Meat Patties

Pattie?
That's not what I was expecting from the description... :)

Steamed Meat Patties

I think it was a bit of a translation fail, pattie it was not. ;)

Hakka Museum

Love this!
It's very evocative and I'm absolutely drawn into the picture. What a talent :)

Hakka Museum

I wish I could claim the credit. It's a picture of a picture in the museum.

Breakfast

Token greens
I love the small peak of green under all that yumminess! :)

Breakfast

Breakfast
Yes, a large plate of yum. The included hotel breakfast was a lovely surprise. I really like that lots of places in Asia don't segregate food for certain meals so much.

Hakka heartland
The photos from the museum are very interesting. I love stuffed tofu and braised eggplant with minced pork! I'm more familiar with Hakka dishes, because like you said, they migrated far and wide. Also, I think the asparagus lettuce is also called stem lettuce (for its thick longish stem; like a bottom part of a broccoli stem that's capped with green leaves). I know I've had it but can't remember the taste... so it's nice to hear your description of it :)

Stem Lettuce
Thank you! It's one of those things I always mean to google, but promptly forget to do ;) I eat it fairly regularly now as the staff canteen serve it several times a week.

Scenic China
You really get a more in-depth experience knowing the language of the country you are traveling don’t you. I would have been so lost in many of your situations. Fascinating blog, thank you for sharing.

Thank You
Thanks for reading. My language skills are still lacking, but I do understand more and it lets me explore some of the less well known (to a Western audience) sights that the country has to offer.

Anti-dripping pills!
I chuckled hard at this one - couldn't they have just handed you a tissue if they thought you were sweaty? :D It's nearly dinner time here and I WANT that Oyster Omelette and radish cake! It's always the first dish I order when I get to Singapore (called carrot cake over there). Lucky you having all these delicious dishes on tap in China :)
18th November 2023

Taste Test
Sounds like a need to trip to Singapore so that I can compare the dishes ;) I kind of wish I'd bought the anti dripping pills now to see what they were/if they worked. Also tissues tend to disintegrate and leave little bits of paper on my face. Not a good look.

Chaoshan/Teochew Cuisine
Yuuum! I haven't logged into TB for a while, and I know I have many of your blogs to catch up on - but the food photos in this one drew me right in! I don't think I know much about Chaoshan Cuisine, and given I love Cantonese food I think I will love this too. The old town architecture is pretty special too :)

Shantou
Food photos are always good :) The cuisine is definitely worth a try. The old town was a bit of a hidden gem and I'm glad I got to had a good walk around it. I would love to go back to experience it at night all lit up.

i was there!
I was there and it was really wonderful! I recommend you look at socks and gifts

Hotel in Amritsar
It was a great article, thanks for sharing!

Escape park
We've had our fair share of parks and gardens where we've struggled to find the exit. Not a fun activity when you've decided to leave and are then forced to keep walking for ages and ages (and it's even more irritating when the reason you're leaving is to find a toilet!) :( :)

Trapped
The exits really should be clearly signposted. And I agree it's even worse with the extra pressure of needing the bathroom or on a time crunch.
