Geo: 49.5938, -124.729Exciting, turning the corner of our favourite seawall walk to find this vision of a ship and know that we were going on it! Check in was friendly and hassle free. Minnie and mickey were in the waiting area and we got our first picture taken. Isaac was very taken with Minnie's nose! As we walked onto the ship, we we're announced, 'Disney wonder welcome the Liu family!' Isaac ran straight for the portholes! Our inside stateroom class 11A was much more spacious than I expected with lovely extra touches such as free postcards, Disney lampshades, a nappy bin, disney toiletries, and not to mention room service! The ship departed with a party. Isaac loved playing with the streamer! The funnel sounded 'when you wish upon a star!' We then all participated in a ... read more

North America » Canada » British Columbia » Vancouver July 27th 2014

Geo: 49.287, -123.132After the obligatory breakfast, Stanley Park and acquarium, We visited English Bay, one of the most popular beaches in Vancouver, to see what we had missed out on from the night before. It's excellent having a beach right in the city and it's definitely very popular! Isaac is a bit of a liability on the beach. Not because of the sea but because he likes to sit on logs next to groups of extremely attractive ladies (of which there are many in canada!) and then goes 'ooo' at them! I managed to distract him with a giant ice cream!!... read more

Geo: 49.2881, -123.131Following the advice from the friendly lady on the bus, we headed back to Lonsdale Quay for the Caribbean festival and parade. We walked to the waterfront along the waterfront which was magical on such a beautiful day. Isaac was asleep by the time we were on the ferry but woke up as soon as we arrived at the festival tents. Again we were too early for all the action (Vancouver isn't an overly early-rising city) but passed the time playing on the quay with the beautiful mosaic fountain. We then heard the sounds of the street parade so headed over to spectate. Strangely, most of the participants were chinese! Both Isaac and I were feeling very sleepy so we headed back to the hotel for some chill time plus a bath after Isaac ... read more

Geo: 49.3792, -123.083Had booked in for breakfast with some grizzlies on the top of Grouse Mountain via the internet. We got up early even though Isaac is up early every morning and puts himself into his pushchair at about 5.30am every morning ready for his next big adventure! We needed to walk to the waterfront, get a ferry across to Lonsdale Quay then a bus to the mountain. This all seemed rather hassly but worked out perfectly pleasant and straight forward. The sky train up to Grouse Moubtain is disappointing as they crowd a huge number of people into one 'train' making it very much a transit experience rather than a touristic one. On arriving at the top, we followed the bear prints on the ground, past some amazing chainsaw sculptures, and went to wake up ... read more

Geo: 49.2789, -123.114Miserable 'British' weather today but we decided to head over to Granville Island nevertheless. Isaac loved riding on the cute little aquabus especially as a seal was there to welcome us aboard. We arrived too early really as nothing seems to open before 10am. It was nice to see (and smell) everything getting ready in the market though. The kids market was a highlight. Isaac loved winning tickets on the arcade games and I found a wonderful puppet shop. Although we weren't overly impressed with the overpriced souvenirs, Isaac loved applying all his Zingzilla knowledge listening to various street entertainers - Cuban, Andes and Japanese dijeridoo. We had a succulent lunch of pacific fish and chips and clam chowder. On returning in downtown, we went on another mammoth walk. We fond the famous steam ... read more

Geo: 49.2789, -123.113Started off the day with another muffin breakfast from the best supermarket in the world. Luckily it opens early enough to fit in with our confused uk/canada timings. The flowers are magical. Isaac enjoyed posing for other people's photos and stalking the 'dig dig dig' gardeners. We retraced quite a lot of yesterday's footprints as we were checking out of the hotel. Found a gu zhong (Chinese harp) playing on the harbour wall. Added in the acquarium which is amazing, especially the beluga whales and the jellyfish. Think we will be spending quite a lot of time here as we purchased a member's card for only 20 dollars more. The next hotel, situated near china town and Gastown, isn't as great an area. It's much more 'hip' and 'edgey' but I was quite satisfied ... read more

Geo: 49.2605, -123.114The thought of 9 and a half hours on a plane with a very large infant had led to many a sleepless night. However Isaac did me proud, charming all those around! We may have been a little unpopular when he ran around pressing everybody's remote buttons and then laughed at and poked all those asleep but in general people seemed to appreciate a friendly wave or a panda to cuddle! Canada Air is not well set up for infants. We weren't able to get a seat near the front so were stuck on an aisle seat right at the back. It's a real squeeze trying to fit an adult and a large infant plus all the clutter onto one seat. However I couldn't fault the staff who made sure they were friendly and ... read more
