After our tour yesterday we had an early start, by holiday standards, up at 6am to finish packing, have breakfast and be at the station in Nice Ville for an 8:15am departure. As is Wayne's way we have to be early just in case or as Wayne puts it, it is hard to miss a train or plane if you're there early waiting. Our travel today was taking us from Nice in the French Riveria in to Italy with a 15 minute change of train in Milan and then on to Venice to arrive at 15:40. When we booked this leg we thought 15 minutes was cutting it a bit fine to change trains but thought it must be fine otherwise why would the company allow us to do it. As it turns out our worst ... read more

This morning started with another great breakfast but we made sure to let reception know about our experience last night so they don't recommend any guests eat there. I should confirm that the decision to eat there was entirely ours and not from any recommendation from our hotel. At breakfast we had a look at Google Maps and found there was a laundromat only a couple of hundred metres from the hotel. We went down there and got some great operating instructions from a man from the Dominican Republic who now lives in Nice. While Vicki stayed with the washing Wayne for an adventure for a haircut. Sundays are quiet in Nice, like we mentioned in the blog yesterday well Mondays have a lot of regular shops closed as well including barbers/hairdressers. Eventually Wayne found one ... read more

Today we slept in, not waking up till nearly 10am, we were pretty messed up with the early start yesterday and also the heat in the Riveria. Fortunately for us the breakfast in the hotel is served till 11am, and a pretty good breakfast it is too. After breakfast we headed out to what we've labelled as the main street, Avenue Jean Medecin, to catch the tram to the Old Town. After calling in some help from a young lady at the platform for the ticket machine we are under way. The tram was packed like sardines but it is by far the most convenient way to get around Nice short of walking. We stayed on the tram for three stops and walked down in to the Old Town. With its narrow streets, one small car ... read more

After getting up at 4am, who does that on a Saturday AND when you are on holidays? We had a call from our driver at 4:30, he was booked for a 4:45 pick up, saying his last customer had left their wallet and phone in his car. It took Wayne a while to communicate with him that it was fine get to the other customer and get their stuff back to them. He said it would take him 15 minutes to get back. We're not really sure why he even bothered to contact us he should have just done it. So he has now arrived back to us at 4:50, loads us and our luggage in to his car and then decides he needs to answer a call of nature and proceeds to walk off down ... read more

Our final full day in London. Breakfast at the Lilac Door B&B was again fantastic. Jane is the perfect host and running it alone as Keith is in Spain cycling and drinking wine with his cycling friends. At breakfast we met the new guests a lady with English heritage and her French husband who were in London for her brother's wedding. We hope the day went well for them all as her family were travelling from far and wide to celebrate the event. Again we made the short stroll down to West Dulwich station. This time we mastered the automatic ticketing machine and it was off on the three stop journey to Victoria Station. Apart from Jane's wonderful B&B the ease of getting in to London from here makes this B&B one that we would not ... read more

After meeting our hosts Jane and Keith at the B&B last night it was no surprise to be greeted with a beautiful breakfast with outstanding coffee, all in all one of the best breakfasts we've had on our holiday to date. We then headed out for a day of sightseeing. A 500 metre walk to West Dulwich station and third stop is Victoria Station. At the station we met Charlie, she is a great ambassador for the railways in London. Spoke to her for a few minutes and she pointed out the tourist information centre. At the tourist information centre we met Tony, initially he was a bit short but soon realized we had some idea of what we wanted to see and how we would go about seeing it. We ended up with a 48 ... read more

After saying our goodbyes to our travelling companions, Vicki's family and friends, we were on the road to Edinburgh. 5 minutes down the road Vicki realized she left her I Pad behind. A U turn at a roundabout, back to the house to collect the I Pad and we are on our way again. The drive from Inverness to Edinburgh is very scenic, travelling through the Scottish Highlands. The roads are excellent as is the signage, and generally speaking we've found the Scottish to be as courteous on the roads as they are off it. After our regulation wrong turn we found a BP within 1km of the Avis Edinburgh Downtown office where we served by Jorge, a very courteous and efficient employee. I mentioned to Jorge about having to add 4 litres of ad blue ... read more

After a slow start with our fellow travelers we set off to find the Loch Ness Monster. While we didn't find Nessie we found a beautiful waterway in a very windy part of the world. The Scottish do roads so well, with ample places to pull over, take photos and take in the splendor that is Loch Ness. From the roadside of Loch Ness our next stop was at Urquhart Castle. The castle is well over 500 years old and today all that is left are significant ruins of what was once an almost impenetrable military strong hold due to it being surrounded on 3 sides by Loch Ness and is an absolute must see as you could spend a day here easily. We didn't have that much time on our hands so we headed to ... read more

After leaving the farmhouse at Carberry we headed to nearby Perth to pick up family friends Violet and her husband Dod to join us on our adventures in Inverness. After a fuel stop at Perth we headed off on our journey. We stopped at a Scottish country pub in Aviemore for a pit stop prior to heading to the Scottish Highlands and Cairngorm Mountain. Cairngorm Mountain is the equivalent of the ski fields in NSW or Victoria, only there is not a sign of any snow making like we'd have in Australia. It was pretty cold on top of Cairngorm Mountain as you can see by the photos. Air temp was around 12 but it was really windy making a feels like temp in the minuses. There is a mountain railway at Cairngorm Mountain but we ... read more

After an amazing dinner at the Mercat (a local restaurant/pub/bar) and a late night last night all plans of an early start were thrown out the window in preference to a sleep in. Once we got our act together we were off on a road trip to see Falkirk Wheel, The Kelpies and Loch Lomond. First things first, breakfast. We found what looked like a great place but Google Maps had us heading down country lanes with closed gates so we opted not to go down them just in case they were private property. We made the near hour drive to Falkirk Wheel, between Edinburgh and Glasgow, and had breakfast at the café there. Ordinary is a little kind for our rating of breakfast but it was better then being hungry, just. Falkirk Wheel is amazing ... read more
