Well many things to see and write about in this entry. There are photos of the cementery down the street from my house. Lots of colors and textures. Cemetaries here seem to be a lot cheerier than in other parts of the world. On Saturday I was supposed to hike a volcano but transportation plans fell through so I went to Zaculeu wich is a Mayan ruin site a couple hours from here. It took me and my friend David 6 busses to get there and back but it was worth it. It is a park in adition to being a histroical site so there was a picl up soccer game going on and lots of families enjoying a nice sunny day on the grass. I also saw a very weird church that was painted bright ... read more

So yesterday (Tuesday) I took a trip to Los Vahos, a natural sauna just out side of town. We took a 10 minute buss ride to the cut off road. Then we hiked up a dirt road for about 30 minutes through beautiful flower fields. As I have said before Guatemala is a country of volcanoes. So this is a volcanic sulferic steam that is realeased through the earth. They funnel the steam into these small stone rooms that feel/look almost like a smal tourture chamber. It was way to steamy to snap a photo of the steam room but I got some great shots of the sceenery en route as well as the outside of the steram rooms and some of the property. Later that night I went to a fund raiser at club for ... read more

Yesterday I went on a horseback ride with 6 other students. We went to a town about an hour or so away called Salcajá. Salcajá is a beautiful little mountain town with great views of the mountains and volcanoes ( there are about 30 volcanoes in Guatemala). We rode through the streets as well as through the fields. Untill yesterday, I had not been on a horse in about 25 years! I got to admit I was a bit scared at first. I dont remember ever being being scared when I rode as a child. When one of the horses took off galoping and then shortly there after fell with one of the students on it, it deffinetly added to my fear. THere were 7 of us, 4 girls and 3 boys. The fall freaked all ... read more

Yesterday 4 of us students hiked to Lake Chicabal which is a laked formed in a volcanic crater. It wa a beautiful hike but dam it was flippen´ steep. No switch backs here. I had a hard time of it but made to the lake without injury! Laguna Chicabal cannot be swam in as it is a sacred site to the Mayan. As you will see I have attached pictures wich means I have a new camera!!! There was a student leaving who sold me her camera, and honestly it is a major upgrade from the one that got stolen. THis one has a panoramic setting and a weird smile meter thingy. After the hike, I took a much needed shower and nap then it was off to a club for salsa! The band was great! ... read more

After such an amazing first night in the country I could´t wait to see what was in store for the next couple of days. As I wrote in my last post, I spend Thursday night chilling with Lis and friends. Well on Friday we went to Antigua. WE got there in the Late afternoon so we meandered down the old coblestone streets looking at different markets and shops along the way. Oh I discovered my new favorite food! It is called a rellineto (sp?) it is fried platain stuffed with balck beans, and man is it yummy!!! Any who back to topic, we meandered around town. Antigua is at the base of a couple vlocanoes wich I hope to climb one day but we arrived way to late for that. But they sure were pretty ... read more

Wow! I can't believe I finally made it! After I breazed through customs, the fabulous Lis was waiting outside to pick me up. We made a stop at her work where they do online training courses to speak english with an American accent. They were in need of a female primary english speaker for one of the courses so I volonteered!!! It was fun. After that went back to the house and I napped for a bit while Lis went back to work. After making some yummy soup with arroz y chipilin ( a leafy herb), we went to hang out with some of her friends in Zona 1, none of whom spoke any english! I had so much fun. We drank some beers and had a bit of 420 vibe goining as well. After ... read more
