I just realized why I like traveling--it is sort of like a new beginning in life. It is an opportunity to re-invent yourself and a way to free oneself from the oppressive routine of everyday.

Saturday, January 2, 2009, Sunday, January 3, 2009, and Monday, January 4, 2009 I spent Saturday with my cousin Don and his daughter Barbora. We went for a long walk in the rainy Washington weather and walked for hours. As a part of the walk, we stopped by and helped Lotte to arrange furniture in her office. We ended the night with a game of Scrabble which I had the good fortune to win. Sunday was a nicer day and even the sun came out at times. In the first part of the day we did some yard work: planted a tree, cleared some shrubs, and made a trip to the junk yard. Afterwards we did another brisk walk through the park and around town. After delicious salmon dinner prepared by Lotte, Donatas and I played ... read more

Tuesday, December 29, 2009 I headed to the city on BART (a metro train in San Francisco area). It was a nice if cold morning as I arrived to Embarcadero station in San Francisco financial district. My first objective was to visit Coit Tower that offers 360 degree views of San Francisco. On may way there I met a tourist from Japan and we walked a couple blocks together since we were headed in the same direction. Before long I reached Coit Tower and took the elevator to the top. Yes, the views were spectacular but I was disappointed that the look out windows had glass... After snapping a couple pictures I headed down the tower and then down the hill in the direction of Pier 39 where I was supposed to meet Brianna and her ... read more

Today I had the pleasure of being a videographer at a high school girls basketball tournament in Pittsburg, California--a city in San Francisco metro area. My friend's team was victorious in the first round of the tournament and will be facing a new fierce opponent tomorrow night. I was writing down some thoughts in my notebook and some parents thought I was a college recruiter... Even though it was nice to help out my friend and support the team, I hope to occupy myself with activities that I really love--exploring San Francisco and visiting museums. That is what I hope to do tomorrow from early morning and later in the afternoon meet up with a friend of mine from Redding. Being in the city and around people I am starting to miss again the solitude of ... read more

I just had another amazing day filled with adventures and great personal isights into life. I was somewhat disturbed to find that it rained over night and the day looked gloomy and damp. However, as soon as I got on the road at 8 AM, the sky got brighter and I knew that I am off to a great start. My first stop was in Cambria to get some gas. I was amazed what a nice little charming town Cambria was--I would not mind to return to it in the future. My second stop was a Whale Watcher Cafe where I had breakfast. Next I checked out a couple campsites where I stayed before and noticed that the fee is only $22 as opposed to $35 in the summer. My third stop was at Camaldoli Hermitage--a ... read more

I finally backed out of my driveway at 10:57 am on Saturday, December 26, 2009. Earlier in the morning I had breakfast with a good friend of mine, loaded up the car, washed the dishes, and made arrangements for my trash and rent payments. As soon as I got on the road, a stream of ideas started flooding my exhilarated brain. Here are a few of them... I realized why I like to travel. You see, traveling is like a new beginning in life. I am not talking about a weekend trip to visit friends. No, I am talking about a little more lengthy travel--a week or more camping etc. When you travel for a longer time, you have to pack your whole life into a suitcase or a car. In fact, what is left at ... read more
