The Old Bridge Backpackers. Such a lovely place to arrive at after the days in Cape Town! The bar and restaurant that are overlooking the river. The fig trees that gives shade. The pool that you can cool of in during and after a hot day. The out door showers that allow you to watch the stars while having a shower. The tent we slept in. The nice staff. Awesome! We higly recomend this place! Horses! Our first day we just spent in the sun. Finaly it is warm! =) And we knew that in the afternoon we would - at last!- go horsebackriding. One from the staff took us to the stables by boat, don't we all love boats? =) We got our horses and set of, surrounded by dogs that was very excited to ... read more

Going from Cape Town to Maun in under two days? Yes you can do it! We started from Cape Town at 6.20 friday morning. Plane tickets costed around R600 p/p. We arrived in Jo'burg two hours later. We had booked tickets on the luxury (!) bus "Intercape", that would take us to the capital of Botswana- Gabarone. The plan was to stay one night in Gabarone, but when we got there we were told that there were no available hostels or hotels...and since it was dark we didn't really feel like running around on the streets...So what to do? We started talking to some finnish people that also were on the "Intercape" and were in the same situation as us - no were to stay for the night. So we ended up taking a taxi from ... read more

Day one Our final stop in South Africa - Cape Town! Arrived late on sunday night and had a quick bite to eat before we hit the sack. Monday was spent wandering around a bit in central Cape Town. Not too energetic since we still were a bit sick. We managed to visit the Company Gardens anyway! =) A nice park where we had fruit salad with ice cream. Nom! As we were walking down the street we bumped in to Marvil! What are the odds for that? *haha* A city with 3,1 million inhabitants and we meet the only one we know! =) Day two Today we felt a bit better so we decided to go up to Table Mountain. Took a taxi for R45 and payed R74 p/p to go on the cable car ... read more

Our third attempt to go horse back riding. This time in Swellendam. We never went and it was all Tess' fault! She was sick. =( Had dinner at the hostel - stew and pumpkin fritters. YUM!! Then we slept for 14 hours. It was needed. When we woke up and realized that the horses had already left for the trail, we took a walk around the town while we waited for the BazBus. Had lunch at The Old Gaul, Rosterkoek - home made bread with cajun chicken and veggies. Definitely a hit! Best part of Swellendam for us was the very nice woman owning the place and the young guys that were taking care of the place! Cooking dinner and making sure we had a pleasant stay. The town was very picturesque, and lays cuddled in ... read more

In Knysna (for Swedish; you say Najsna) we stayed at The Island Vibe. We got busy straight away! A quick dinner at Nando's consisting of veggie pitas (Try them!) and then we took a shower and fixed ourselves - it was time for a night out finally!! And not just any night out - Pink Loirie Gay Festival was in town!! Met a lot of nice people, Marvil and Craig in particular, and guys just kept buying us drinks. It was crazy! Me and Jenny spent most of the time on the dance floor of course! The gays loved our moves!! -Daaaarling! You dance fabulously! Robert was the craziest of them all! *haha* Started the night at Zanzibar and when they closed at 2am we moved on to Tryst until about 5am... One of our GREATEST ... read more

Stayed only one night at Dijembes Backpackers in Storms River. The only reason we went there was because we wanted to go horse back riding. But the horses were getting their flu shot and could not be ridden for a few weeks after that. =( Instead we went for a hike in the forest with a German girl and a South African woman. Hike... pfft... We chose the 5km track and felt that would be a good distance. It was too short! *haha* The German girl we took the walk with lived at another hostel and after dinner we took a walk over there. It was pitch black let us tell you! Could barely see the road. But we could see a million stars instead. The sky down here.... it takes your breath away! In the ... read more

Port Elizabeth was great! Stayed there for 4 nights. First night at Helicharter Backpackers but decided to leave since the place was virtually empty... =( Instead we walked down the street and found Kings Beach Backpackers. Awesome place, one of the cleanest we have come across! The manager at KB is an amazing man called David. He took us for a township tour. A township is basically the slum, but the government are building new houses for the people living there so life quality is slowly improving. Went to this old lady that was taking care of the township kids who's parents can't afford school. David bought them crisps and they were delighted! A woman that lived in a tint house let us in - the misery! When it rains her house get flooded and water ... read more

The bus journey from Maputo to Johannesburg was a gooood one! The border crossing was a bit tricky though. Our 'bus helper' told us to leave the queue and go down some stairs where the queue was a lot shorter. -Great! we thought. But after queuing for about 10 minutes the woman at the desk refused to stamp our passports! -Only pedestrians! Bah! So we missed our place in the queue and now had to do it all over again??? Seemed like it. But our 'bus helper' came to our rescue! He took our passports and managed to get them all stamped before we even reached the desks. And so we could continue. The best part of the journey was about 20 minutes after the border when we saw 6-7 giraffes gracing from the trees next ... read more

Finally Africa! The lady that checked our passports was very dissapointed, shaking her head when we did not have a place to stay. -Crazy backpackers. This how ever turned out not to be a problem at all. As soon as we stepped out of the terminal a woman came up asking us if we wanted to go to Fatimas Backpackers. And of course we did! Also met a 73 year old man from Sweden. Very friendly old navy officer. He gave us his number, just to call if we were wondering about something. =) And if we say like this - the air in Africa must be something special, he looked very healthy! Arrived at Fatimas at noon. First things first - we needed meticais! Went to an ATM. But no... could not take out any ... read more

Here we are at our first stop!! We have had a great time here in Lisbon. The hostel was perfect, and our ability to sightsee surprised us both. We were busy from 10 in the morning untill 6 in the evening. The evening we arrived we sat down at a table on the pavement outside a restaurant and had dinner and a cold beer. Lovely to sit outside and just watch people passing by. Life was good! =) As we were trying to find a way to get up to Castelo de Sao Jorge we met two guys from Brazil, who were going the same way. Sweeet! Since we are crap at remembering names they will only be reffered to as The One and The Other. *hehe* The One was very funny and outgoing, while The ... read more
