The Old Bridge Backpackers. Such a lovely place to arrive at after the days in Cape Town! The bar and restaurant that are overlooking the river. The fig trees that gives shade. The pool that you can cool of in during and after a hot day. The out door showers that allow you to watch the stars while having a shower. The tent we slept in. The nice staff. Awesome! We higly recomend this place!
Horses! Our first day we just spent in the sun. Finaly it is warm! =) And we knew that in the afternoon we would - at last!- go horsebackriding. One from the staff took us to the stables by boat, don't we all love boats? =) We got our horses and set of, surrounded by dogs that was very excited to go out for a run! Rode along the river and crossed it here and there, canting a bit but mostly taking it easy and just watching the nature. We were on our way back when we heared this loud noice from the water, and the horses freaked out a bit like horses do... It was a hippo and it was enormous! Heartbeat went
up a bit since it appeared so suddenly. They are very territorial so you better watch out. And we had just crossed that very river about four times!! But the hippo was eating and din't mind us so we could continue back to the stables. A lovely ride!
Okavango The next day it was time for a mokoro trip in to the delta with Joho, Niina och Saila. A mokoro is a dug out canoe. Very cosy. Although the first half an hour it was two rather nervous girls that were watching the water surface intencely. Will a hippo appear? Will it attack?? But there were no hippos in sight luckily! After about one hour we stopped at the riverbank. Time for a walk in the wild! The guide told us what do do in case we met any dangerous animals. Lion - DON'T RUN! Buffalo - don't panic before the guide. *haha* His english was not the best... =)
So off we went. Walked for a while and din't see much. ''This is not the time of the day'' said the guide. The animals are hiding from the sun. But shortly afterwords we could see some
white figures at the horison. Zebras! We crossed a small river and could walk up to the zebras. We were probably about 50 meters from them and they were standing there watching us. A pair of warthogs were also walking around with the herd of zebras. It was wonderful! Took about a million pictures... =) Walked on and came across more zebras and a few wildebeasts. More pictures! By then it was Very hot and we asked the guide to take us back. We had a liter of water between us and that was not even nearly enough! At least a liter per person! As usual we didn't do our homework! *hehe*
Went back to the mokoros where we had a quick lunch and a break, before we headed back to the mokoro 'station' where the motorboat was waiting to take us back to Maun. Saw african fish eagles, very beautiful birds! And a ton of other birds. They all look like they are too heavy to fly.
We had a wonderful dinner when we got back to The Old Bridge - steak! It was a thick bit of meat and sooo tender! NOM NOM! We were starving!
The rest of our time there we mostly chilled. Spent about 4,5 hours on the inernet one day to upload pictures to this page... Were almost ready to start a fight when we were finished. It was horrible! But what don't you do for the people back home? 😉 And a brownie with ice cream and chocolate sause sorted our bad moods. *haha*
It was time to move on. See you all in Kasane!
