Finally Africa! The lady that checked our passports was very dissapointed, shaking her head when we did not have a place to stay. -Crazy backpackers. This how ever turned out not to be a problem at all. As soon as we stepped out of the terminal a woman came up asking us if we wanted to go to Fatimas Backpackers. And of course we did! Also met a 73 year old man from Sweden. Very friendly old navy officer. He gave us his number, just to call if we were wondering about something. =) And if we say like this - the air in Africa must be something special, he looked very healthy!
Arrived at Fatimas at noon. First things first - we needed meticais! Went to an ATM. But no... could not take out any money. Ooops! Stood in line for a while before we managed to get hold of a guy to ask what was wrong. -Bad ATMs. So he sent us to this other bank and luckily we could take out money there. =)
Went back to Fatimas where we met a South African guy and a girl from Norway that were traveling around investigating hostels
in southern Africa. Michael and Turid. Went to Mimmos with them in the evening for dinner. Pizza. Very african... *erm* Had a rather early night, since we were a bit tired from a week of fixing things at home and then a rather hectic travel scheadule...
Our favourite place was how ever Zambezia Bar and Restaurant at Mao Tse Tung Avenue, where also Fatimas is located. They make the best toast we have ever tried! Perfectly toasted. Nom nom! And the staff there is sooo good. Always a clean table.
The second day we wentured out some. First we went to Maputo Shopping Centre with Michael and Turid. On the way we made a quick stop at the Greyhound office and booked our tickets to Johannesburg the following day. At the mall we wanted to see if we could find an internet cafe and to have a look around. It looks like any mall, except they have more of a palm tree theme. 😉 Found an internet cafe - that had no net. *haha* Okay... Had lunch at Costas Cafe. Don't go there. It's freezing and it takes Forever to get your food. Not good for two hungry
swedish chicks.
Once back at Fatimas we decided to go and find internet somewhere else. Needed to book tickets from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth. Want to get down to the coast before it gets too cold! First we walked a looong way to an internet cafe and found a good time for our flight. And then we discovered that we didn't have the security control for the VISA. Damn it! So we had to go back once again and get it. Luckily we found a closer internet cafe and could book our tickets. *hehe* Knoll and Tott... what can we say?
The evening was splendid! Just sat and talked to all the other backpackers over some beers. Emily from the States, Niall and Paul from Ireland and a very drunk Francois from South Africa. He was filming constantly and at the end of the night he was sitting on the floor mumbeling stuff. Very happy though! Niall was just an amazing person! He was so sincere, friendly and funny! He read our palmes. *hehe* It looks good - at least eventually. 😉
Went to bed waaaay to late. 3 hours sleep and then we had to get
up to catch the bus. But it worked fine.
