"Engage, Educate, Entertain" Seems the MSMW's theme well encapsulated the ideas in your blog and that of Travelblog in general. I especially like your reminding us and the conference audience of the power each of us has to open minds to other ways of life that we encounter through travel and then through sharing. Thanks for representing Travelblog so well--I think you've found yourself a niche.
I can vouch that you are an incredibly speaker, Shane, and I would have loved to hear you on stage again! The audience gasped and laughed and reacted to your presentation last year and I'm sure they were equally mesmerized this year. Congratulations!! :)
Well done! I really really enjoyed this entry. You're so fortunate to have the opportunities to publicly speak about the things you love most. When a speaker has such enthusiasm for his topic it makes the discourse come to life and grip the listener and thus making a bigger impact. Its interesting you compare the thrill of public speaking to traveling...I've had the same thought! We must be some kind of adrenaline junkies. Keep up the good work fellow blogger.
Nice to have a famous TravelBlogger amongst us... Hope all the fame won't change you :)
Also, interesting topic and as far as I can tell from your blog, well presented at the conference. I am especially impressed by your ending thoughts on how one person can change the opinion of many. Very inspiring.
Enough praise, now you need to get back on the road and write those blogs that change peoples perceptions ;)
Tom and his mates Beautifully written words that invoke the essence of courage, mateship, sacrifice and humility... through the chill of a bugle on hallowed ground...and the silence that follows speaks volumes...Thank you Mr Travel Camel. You have done the ghosts very proud.
my name was here..thank you so much mr.Shane Dallas..im feel sadly because not take a picture with you..however,hope we will meet for one day..nice speakers i have seen..
LOL! Shane is a Number 1 blogger in his own right, but that didn\'t stop me spraying coffee on my monitor, when I read Dancing Daves comment. Funny is funny!
Where else have you done public speaking Shane? Ali said in his blog, that you are an experienced public speaker. I remember reading someplace that you used to be a DJ for a radio station...
Public Speaking Thanks for the comment Mel! I have been a member of Toastmasters International for more than 20 years and have a shiny collection of trophies from winning speech contests as a result. I've also delivered a large number of speeches outside of the organisation including lectures, keynote addresses and being Master of Ceremonies at weddings. In total, I have delivered over 1000 different speeches - and these do range from short "warm-ups" of half a minute through prepared speeches of between 5-30 minutes to lectures or training sessions of several hours.
Beautiful written! Say hello to Lenny the Tarsier, Blu the Kangaroo and Polly the Travel Frog for me. Hehe. Do come visit borneo on your next visit to Malaysia!
looking great in that suit :) sounds like you indeed had lots of fun, congratulations on this new achievement :) certainly, tvb was well represented ;)
Surely it wasn't the curry... ...that gave you the runs, but that hackneyed Mark Twain-quote. ;) Your fan club looks impressive, though, looks like your speech enthralled them quite a bit.
Cheers,
Jens
Twain and Proust Mark Twain has received some criticism over the years, but this could be the first suggestion that his writings can induce frantic lunges to the bathroom! ;-) If the presentation was longer, I would have loved to incorporate the quote "The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands but in seeing with new eyes," by Marcel Proust. Hopefully Proust will not cause any unwelcome emergencies on stage if the chance to quote him in any future presentation arises.
Amazing travel writing you do Shane... Just opened some windows into your blog..Lovely writing here Shane..You've got a lot of spiritual blossoming twinned with Mother Nature's grace in your writing...so you are the first blogger 'Camel' I've decided to virtually travel with....Happy times to you and your loved ones....Om Kriya Babaji Namah Aum Namah Shivaya (Just a blessing irrespective of your faith..if you don't mind...) Kesh
Dream, Discover, Explore. Any time you leave feeling you have friends instead of those faces remaining strangers you have indeed been in the right place doing the right thing. I am proud to be a part of this wonderful community. I am certain they will be inviting both you and Ali for a return visit. Congratulations! Glad Polly, Lenny and Blu enjoyed the festivities.
So great to meet you! Shane, I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed your company in Malaysia. You are a true pro speaker and gentleman; may our paths cross again very, very soon.
