Geo: 35.5278, -108.744After a breakfast of huevos rancheros we hit the road heading for the Arizona state line. We saw great scenery on our drive through western New Mexico and into Arizona. We made a stop at Meteor Crater between Winslow and Flagstaff. Meteor Crater is nearly one mile across, 2.4 miles in circumference and more than 550 feet deep. Meteor Crater is the breath-taking result of a collision between a piece of an asteroid travelling at 26,000 miles per hour and planet Earth approximately 50,000 years ago. Our friend Jim was here six months ago and raved about it. It was amazing. Far better than I thought it would be. On the way out Kim bought me a souvenir piece of the actual meteor that caused the crater. As we left the crater we stopped ... read more

Geo: 35.1786, -103.725We checked out of the motel and continued west. Our first stop was the Blue Hole in Santa Rosa New Mexico. This is a natural spring that known for its crystal clear water. It is 81 feet deep and is a constant 61F to 64F year around. As we continued on our way we were about 10 miles outside of Albuquerque when an engine light came on. I pulled over the truck and it stalled out. We called Penske road side service. They sent out a wrecker and towed us into the Penske location in Albuquerque. We waited around while they tried to fix the truck. This went on and on. We were told that they could not fix it and took it to the dealer to be fixed. After waiting a few more ... read more

Geo: 36.1498, -95.9933Back on the road we were traveling through Oklahoma. Eastern Oklahoma was beautiful. I am not sure what I thought Oklahoma was going to look like but I did not expect it to be green hilly and lush. I was also surprised to see armadillos here. The dirt here was a bright orange red colour. I know it does not show up very well in the photos but even the water in the rivers was this amazing colour. We stopped at the Arcadia round barn for a look around then down the road at a gas station called Pops. They had over 100 different soda pops. I got a bottle of Moxie and Kim got a Dublin Dr. Pepper (imported from Dublin and made with 100% cane sugar). As we continued west the landscape ... read more

Geo: 39.801, -89.6436We got good nights sleep in Lincoln's home town and hopped back in thetruck to see the final Giant in IL. This was the Lauterbach Giant inSpringfield. Next on our stop was the Pink Elephant Antique Mall in Livingston IL. This is an old high school that was turned into a huge antique store. Outside was a large pink elephant, a giant dressed in swim trunks, a huge tricycle, a Harley Davison Giant, a large green UFO and an Ice Cream place that has 6 flavours. We got and ice cream looked around the antique mall and headed on our way. Our next roadside attraction was the Brooks Catsup bottle in Collinsville IL. It was built in 1949 and is the world's largest bottle of Catsup. As we continued on we crossed the border ... read more

Geo: 42.3316, -83.0478As the saying goes, "A friend in need is a friend indeed" and we were in need. It never seems to amaze me that I have the best friends in the world. Most of them I have known since childhood and I am certain that as long as they can put up with me, they will be a part of my life until I am no longer around. Anyone who knows me well knows I have a lot of shit. I have been storing these prize possessions all over Michigan. Most of these treasures have been stored in the basement of my good friend Brads house in Plymouth. There was also stuff at Jimmy's house in Redford, Laura Rentz (Genitti) house in Northville, the garage of our old house in Plymouth, my mom's house ... read more

Geo: 51.3347, 1.41787This is a tough one to write. I can't believe we have to leave. My job is done here and we are moving to San Diego, CA. I am really happy and lucky to have a job but we are not ready to leave England. This has become our home and we have so many friends.... I have to keep telling myself that we will be back soon for a visit. And we will. The photos attached to this blog are from the Great Wall of Ramsgate. How better to sum up such a fantastic town than by letting the locals tell the story. Every painting brings memories... well, not every painting... but most. There are so many people that we will miss dearly. Thank you so much to each of them for making our ... read more

Geo: 52.3738, 4.89095When we arrived in Amsterdam and checked into our apartment we were greeted by our friend Sean. While visiting his girlfriend, Gwendo in Paris he made a side trip to meet us in Amsterdam. As the city prepared for the upcoming Queens day celebration we enjoyed our time in Amsterdam. Lots of good food, Ethiopian, Indonesian, and our favorite Falafel. Sean, Gwendo, and I rode on the Sky Swings. This was a swing carnival ride that rises way up in the air for a great flying ride. We all piled into the Farris Wheel for a night time view of the city. As the city was just starting to get ready for Queens day my arthritis did a big flare up. Since it was very painful to walk we decided it would be best ... read more

Geo: 41.8955, 12.4823Before we head back over the pond we decided to take one last quick visit to some of our favorite places. We started in Rome. We stayed at a small apartment in the Trastevere section of Rome. The apartment while nothing great had a very good location. Or friend Alex was at the airport waiting for us when we arrived. We checked into the apartment and then Alex took us to his restaurant/bar, Brasserie 4:20, where we were treated to an amazing feast. The next day Alex took us to his warehouse where he had an all day BBQ and beer party. What a day of amazing tastes and flavors we had. Kim and I found an afternoon to do some wandering about in Rome and do some shopping. It was a quick couple ... read more

Geo: 51.3347, 1.41787As a birthday gift to me Kim had booked a boat ride from Ramsgate Harbor out to the wind farm and the Maunsell Forts. The wind farm is one of several in Southeastern Kent and is off the shore of Herne Bay/Whistable. They are pretty to see spinning from the shore but it is not until you are up close do you understand the size of these monsters. Near by the wind farm is one of three remaining Maunsell Forts. This one is the one built at Shivering Sands. From Wikipedia: The Maunsell Sea Forts were small fortified towers built in the Thames and Mersey estuaries during the Second World War to help defend the United Kingdom, named after their designer, Guy Maunsell. They were decommissioned in the late 1950s and later used for ... read more
