Cruise 2015

Europe October 28th 2015

What do you so on a day at sea?? Eat, drink, sleep, shop, party!! I think we did all of those, starting with the breakfast tray being delivered. We then went to the breakfast buffet for a second hit at breakfast! Then we looked around the shops on board the ship, at overpriced Brittling watches, jewellery and clothing! After this we watched a movie in our cabin and rested ready for lunch! At lunch we were sat with a couple who live in Canada and a man who lives in Norway. We unfortunately strayed into a conversation about the Elgin Marbles, which are the freeze from the bottom of the Acropolis in Athens. How do you stray into a conversations like that! We were explaining that the previous day while visiting temple of Hephaestus we had ... read more

We are here for two days, 26th and 27th so I've done one entry. 26th October For our first day near Athens we are going to stay on the ship, we have previously been to Athens and were not keen on it, sorry to anyone who like Athens. We booked a late breakfast call and went for a short walk off the ship before returning to meet some of our new US friends for lunch on board. A nice meal with a glass of wine. After lunch I went for a lay down and DL Went up on the deck. Later in the afternoon we went for a jacuzzi on the deck for an hour in the freezing cold!! After dinner we went to bed ready for tomorrow and a trip into Athens!!! 27th October Today ... read more

No need to rush today, we've been here before, it's a nice small town with narrow streets with pretty shops and its of wild cats. I decided to stay on the ship and DL went into town on his own to see what he could find to buy. It was quite cold and windy so he put on his regulation seven layers and a scarf. I decided to stay in bed and watch a film looking out of the balcony at the view. The rest of the day was quite quiet as well, when DL returned he went for lunch as I had already been and then went to lay in the solarium. He phoned down and I went up and got into a jacuzzi on the open deck for about an hour before dinner. Tomorrow ... read more

The phone rang, it was our morning call. I looked towards the window, it was still black, "what was that" I said to DL, "it was the phone" he replied not like him to try to be funny that early in the morning. I got up straight away and went to get showered and open the curtains to see the beautiful view.... "OMG" I said out loud DL asked what was the matter, "we're moored next to a third class cruise ship" I said "close your eyes". You can decide if I said it or not! :-) We were leaving early as we'd booked a trip to Ephesus for the morning, leaving at 8:30am. The bus left on time with our guide who was called 'princess' in Turkish so we were now going to be called ... read more

We have never been to Rhodes so today was going to be a first. Our waiter told us at dinner last night that it was going to rain from 12:00 midday so we needed to get up and get on with it. It was a very pretty place with a castle wall and lots of shops selling jewellery, carpets, table cloths and trinkets etc. We visited the castle of the Knights Templar which was very interesting, if only for the lack of Health and Safety on the stairs. (See picture). We stopped for a coffee and I had a lager, I asked for a large beer expecting a pint, but what came was a litre of lager in a boot shapes glass (see pictures), DL said "your not going to drink all that", but I did, ... read more

Today we visited Santorini and island of Greece. It's the crater or caldera of a volcano. We are moored right in the middle of it. The volcano last erupted 3,500 years ago and it was so violent it blew itself apart and the sea flooded on. This is how we are moored in the middle of the crater. The volcano is still active and releases hot springs to show it hasn't gone away. Santorini is only accessible in two ways, by cable car or by donkey up a winding track, DL wanted to on a donkey I said no way, he decided he wouldn't when he realised that Prada and donkeys don't mix! We went up on the cable car which was a poor relation to the ones we use in Chatel, France when we go ... read more

After a lay in we set off for Chania town to see the sites. Most of the sites were shops selling silks, crystal and souvenirs. It was a small and not very pleasant town to walk around. It's started to rain so we headed back to the ship. We met all of the people we've become friendly with in the martini bar for a pre-dinner drink. After dinner we went to one of the bars on board for an after dinner drink before heading off to bed ready for tomorrow.... read more

The knock at the door told me it was time to wake up but it seemed as though I had only just gone to sleep. Dancing till the early hours with a few glasses of something had left its mark on me. A few more hours sleep is what I needed but I wasn't going to get it. DL was strangely wide awake and let the waiter in with the tray. We went on a trip today to Taormina which was a pretty village in Sicily. We stopped off and had a cup of coffee in a very smart hotel and admired the view (see picture) before moving off to explore the shops and the Greek amphitheatre (see picture). It was a very pretty town that we would stay in on a holiday, the views were ... read more

The phone in the room rang startling us both, it was room service to say the breakfast tray was on its way. Just a little something to make sure we were awake before the main event. After about an hour we made our way to the dining room (self service, because we were in a rush to get the train to Sorrento) where there is a vast array of things for breakfast, from eggs cooked and which way you want to, crepes in the shape of your face! (please not one like mine first thing on the morning). After breakfast we made our way off the ship to an awaiting taxi, so we thought, but when we said we wanted to go to the train station they weren't keen, they were waiting for people who wanted ... read more
