All I can say, DAMN ITS HOT HERE!!! I dont think I have felt heat like this everyday all day. Even though I am now on what is the mediterranean cost its still hot and I think its even more humid here! I dont think my Canadian stomach as gottan use to the heat so I would like to thank the person who discovered gravol because it has been the biggest help! Other than the heat, things are definitely interesting here! I had my first "adventure" yesterday. The lady Dina who kind of oversees the organization and its functioning drove me to Alexandria (aka alex) yesterday and on the way we stopped at one of the many road side stops that displays animals for peoples entertainment! I havent seen anything like this before. The place we ... read more

So as you can all guess, I hae made it safe and sound to Egypt! The flights were okay but I have been pretty sick, nothing a little self medicating wont fix! I havent had a chance to see much of the city yet since the flight got in so late and I have just been sleeping! The organization here seems to be pretty interesting! They are very animal welfare oriented so this is something new for me! I was even asked last night where I stood on the issue ofthe seal hunts in Canada! Not the best convo subject for 3am in the morn'n! haa Anyways, apparently the pyramids are like 15 mins from my house right now so we might go see them today if not it will definitely be seen in the near ... read more

Well as you all can see from the title, I have 3 hours till I have to leave for the airport and I am still not done packing. The hallway in my moms house looks like an explosion and my cat has no where to sleep on my bed, but fingers crossed it will all fit into the two bags plus my carry on in the next 30 minutes! Lesson learned today - dont leave packing till the day of the trip...it SUCKS! So this is going to be the main way that I communicate with you all since individual emails are so hard! I am hoping that since Alexandria and Cario (my first two places to visit) are big cities cyber access wont be a problem!!! And for all of you New Liskeard Folk, I ... read more

So this is our time to catch up on some blog posts! We are now back in Kenya in the bigger towns, so our lack of a functional internet service is behind us! I truly cannot believe that we are almost done with our sumer long journey!!! It has been incredible! To fill you all in about our life the last little while, it must start with our adventure crossing yet another boarder (joining Uganda and Kenya) on foot!! I am not sure if we mentioned this in one of first blogs, but prior to leaving on our trip Katie had a 'nightmare' about having to cross the boarder on foot, unlike what occurs in Canada where we have our cars etc. So every time we have to cross a boarder we laugh because even if ... read more

Hi everyone!!! Sorry it's been so long since our last posting... we've had some bad luck with the internet lately. We're now back in Ngong Hills finishing up some projects and catching up with friends before we head home. I think our last post left off just before we got to our project in Uganda- here are some of the details. We stayed at a YWAM base in Jinja which was very comfortable- minus the freezing cold showers left kate trying to catching her breathe!! On our second day there, we got a roomate who also happens to be a Canadian. Melanie is a child development specialist from Calgary. The three of us had a blast together! It reminded me of being back in rez all over again! Melanie's solution to coping with the cold showers ... read more

Okay so we found a much better way of getting from Mwanza to Uganda then originally figured out while in Kenya! Late last night we boarded a ferry that would remind you of the Titanic (including 1 through to 3rd class) We were lucky and booked our tickets a week in advance and so we got second class sleeping since ti was going to be a 9 hour ferry through the night! Second class consisted of 6 bunk beds crammed into a tiny tiny room! We were lucky and snagged us top bunks which had more breathing room! There wasnt much sleep to be had once on borad since it was pretty loud and the lights didnt turn off and all that jazz! So with about 2 hours sleep, we boarded a bus to Kampala from ... read more

So as you probably noticed, our last post for pictures didn't work! The internet has been crazy slow for the last week and so we haven't even been able to read e-mails or anything! So we hopefully will find the internet to be faster in our next destination so we can up load some of our photos! Our time in Mwanza is wrapping up quickly, and I am sure I can speak on behalf of Katie and my self, we wish we could just stay here! We were a little nervous in the beginning, having to try and teach english and all to a group of orphans, but it has been an amazing experience! We have been working with another volunteer from the USA who is great, and we managed to split up all the children, ... read more

For those who are confused about who is writting when here is a little system we have devised.....if "Katie" is mentioned then the person is refering to Katie Walsh and if "Kate" is mentioned they are refering to Kate Gyselinck :) So the vacation was nice while it lasted on our tropical island but it has been good to get back to work! Since Zanzibar is an island we had to take a super early ferry back to the main land, and we lucked out and had a pretty nice once that had seats and everything. Everything was fine and dandy until the woman in the next aisle decided that her childs crappy diaper needed changing, and decided not to use the bathrooms on board. To top of that nastyness, sea sickness hit mid way through ... read more

Hello from TZ! Kate and I arrived in Zanzibar on Sunday and we are both in LOVE with this place!!!! We're staying at the Amaan Bungalows which is a beautiful resort on the North end of the island (don't worry, we're staying within our budget!!!). Our room is gorgeous! We each have our own bed complete with bug nets, shower, flushing toilet *we got laughed at for asking about that one at the front desk!* and a fan. Too bad the entire island has been without power for over 2 weeks now. We are currently running on generators which they only turn on in the evenings. Everynight we lay in bed praying for the generators to turn on so we can use the ceiling fan in our room- it is freakin hot here!! The beach is ... read more
