We arrived in Sihanoukville yesterday. We have a private driver for the next week (we hired our friend Sam that we had met last year but he was in a very bad motorbike accident-road rash on face and hands-so he couldn't make it-he sent his cousin Mr. Sear) so we will be exploring quite a lot. We checked into our hotel that overlooks the beach, headed down and Steven found his new best friend-Seryang-a young lady that sells lobster. He ate 12 lobsters for 4$. He didn't get sick so I will have them today! WARNING-if you are scared of snakes do not read this next part. We ate dinner at The Snake House, owned and operated by Russians. The restaurant is 5 star-white linens, server standing by the table at all times, and really good ... read more

We finally found an internet cafe with good computers (although having a tough time uploading photos-sorry!). We decided to spend Wednesday of bikes. Ugh. Rough roads but even rougher bikes! We biked out to a restaurant called The Rusty Keyhole-literally in the middle of fields. To out surprise as we rode up we were greeted by a very friendly Labrador named Tung-Tung. He is afraid of chickens and kills lizards. Guess it is good it is not the other way around. The owners, Kristian from the UK and his lovely wife Come were really nice. They have a little 7 month old baby girl named Kanika. So cute! Her mom let me hold her. We biked back to town and I am pretty much done with the bicycle riding. Steven runs errands on the bike and ... read more

Hello everyone! Lots to tell. We've decided against motor bike rental as tuk-tuk is inexpensive and the roads here are very rough. Yesterday we had a rainstorm in the afternoon-poured for an hour then beautiful again. We were tucked into a cozy restaurant with a bowl of fish amok and a plate of fried shrimp with Kampot Pepper. We climbed 203 steps to a cave of limestone, viewed a salt plant, fishing village, and pepper plantation. The plantation grows the famous Kampot Pepper which is a must if you ever see it on a menu. The "plantation"is what Dad would call a garden! We spent a few hours in a town called Kep on the Gulf of Thailand and ate fried shrimp and crab. Lovely. I had my introduction to my school here in Kampot. I ... read more

A beautiful morning in Kampot. We are still waking around four am-still adjusting. We went to the local market this morning to buy some swimming trunks for Steven. The girls were laughing at trying to find some shorts big enough! But alas, we found a pretty pair of purple ones with hibiscus flowers-Steven is sure to be the center of attention! I tried to buy a dress but couldn't find anything in my size so I guess it isn't all that funny. Steven kept hitting his head in the market-not exactly built for a man his size. We were the only non-Khmers there and we really stood out. We will be going back tomorrow for some supplies. We have decided to rent a motor bike for the week. That way Steven can take me to school ... read more

We have landed in Kampot. Beautiful, sleepy town. Have a lovely room at the Mea Culpa. Waiting for our green curry, shrimp rolls, and fried squid (that would be Steven's choice) at a restaurant. Checking in with the school tomorrow. Have to go eat! Suzie and Steven... read more

We are getting ready to eat breakfast and take a bus to Kampot. Yesterday we went to the Royal Palace and viewed beautiful gardens, history of Buddha statues, and royal ceremonies of the King. Really hot! As we were coming back we ran into our Nairobi friends-they invited us to join them for lunch at very nice Indian restaurant. The food was very good but the company was the real treat. They are four soon to be university students-one wants to become a neurosurgeon, two want to be dentists, and one wants to complete his education and have his own restaurant with an organic garden attached. All fantastic endeavors and we wish them well. Having lunch and talking with four young adults who really have a global perspective at their age was inspiring. They were telling ... read more

We arrived in Phnom Penh exhausted but relieved to be off of an airplane. Our friend Sam picked us up at the airport-wonderful to see him. Hot here! 31 degrees C; translated-HOT. Settled in at River Star Hotel and made plans for accomodation and travel for the next two weeks. We ate a wonderful lunch at Friends Restaurant, a non-profit organization that helps children and young adults in prostitution and drugs get out by training and working in the restaurant. We had some drinks at California 2, a bar that is owned by a man from California-his parents live at Watt and Marconi. :) Woke up this morning to have breakfast and watched as a man walked his elephant down the street, monks packed into tuk-tuks, and young girls delivering fresh baguettes to restaurants on mopeds. ... read more
