We made it! We arrived at around 3pm. Even though we don't close until tomorrow morning the previous owner is letting us stay in the house tonight. We've already unpacked...although we didn't really have much to unpack. We even went food shopping...even though we don't have a refrigerator yet. Now we're going to watch a movie....no TV but we do have a computer with some movies on it :) We will take some photos of the house tomorrow after closing and post them. Thanks to everyone for all the well wishes!... read more

Sorry we haven't updated in so long. We've just been either too busy or too tired to post. Yesterday we left Laredo and landed in Sulphur LA. My brother lives there so we visited with him and I met my nephew Vance for the first time. I bought Jill some Tex Mex last night, which she was pretty happy about, and then we went to bed early. This morning started out fine but we were hit with a storm just before Baton Rouge and it stayed with us all the way to Montgomery. It rained so often and so hard that a lot of the time we could only drive 40 mph. Because of that we were on the road almost ten hours today. Anyway, we're settled into our room and will leave early in the ... read more

We just spent our last evening in Queretaro with the Ocana family. We just sat around the table talking and laughing. Thank you so much Eloy, Rocio, Christian, Ethan, Alessi and Ellie! You made our time here fly by. We'll hit the road by 6am US time and hopefully cross the border 8-10 hours later depending on traffic. The next time you hear from us we'll be north of the Rio Grande.... read more

Yesterday the Ocana family was nice enough to take me out to see Queretaro. It's a great city! The food was the best I've had. We also went to centro which is just block after block of pristine colonial buildings filled with great restaurants and shops. I even tried an alcoholic drink called pulque for the first time. The unflavored pulque wasn't that appealing but the strawberry and coconut was pretty good. And...believe it or not, we had some fried insects :) Grasshoppers, ants and a few meal worms. I tried the grasshoppers and guacamole..it didn't taste bad but one chip full was all I could do. We came back later that afternoon, Jill had stayed behind to keep an eye on the dogs. The Ocana's brought her a birthday cake since her birthday was a ... read more

Yesterday we started our trip pretty early in the morning. It was dark when we started packing up the van but light out by the time we left. The entire drive was nice but the section from Cordoba through the mountain range by Orizaba was great. Jill was the lucky one who got to drive through the mountains and she did a great job...as you can see from the photos it's a pretty scary drive. When we drove through Puebla and to the Arco Norte we saw the volcano Popocatépetl and it was still smoking so we drove a little faster through there :) Our drive on the Arco Norte was pretty uneventful as was the rest of the drive to Queretaro. We met Eloy and Rocio on the edge of town and they took us ... read more

The good news is I remembered to put the camera in the front of the van this morning, the bad news is I forgot that the sd card was still in my computer (in the back of the van), the other good news is that I remembered that the kindle has a camera on it. Not the best quality but pretty good. This day seemed easier on us, and the dogs too. They all seemed to settle into the routine of being in the van for 3 or 4 hours, getting a break and then another few hours in the van. The roads weren't as bad today, not all good by any means but there were some pretty long stretches of perfect black top. We stopped at a gas station just past the Acayucan exit for ... read more

We made it! It was a long day but we're here in one piece. No troubles at all other than a Campeche State cop who bitched us out for not having our dogs in cages. He said it was a state law that all dogs in vehicles must be in cages. He gave us a nasty look and then let us go though so all is ok. There must be something about our van because every time we went through any type of checkpoint...police or military, we were stopped. We love the cabin we are in, nice big secure yard for the dogs to run in. It is a two cabin property but no one is in the other cabin so we have it to ourselves. There's a nice open-air, traditional cocina next door so Jill ... read more
