Greetings everyone, we know it’s been a while, that’s because we haven't been anywhere. But it is with pleasure that I tell you about our long weekend in Marrakech. Our weekend was filled with sleep-ins, tagines and couscous, bartering and like all our travels loads of walking. We flew out of Gatwick on an early flight and arrived about lunch time on Thursday. It was really easy to get into town from the airport; you can catch the bus for 60 Morocco Dirhams (DHS) which took us to the main square - Djemaa el Fna. From there we just had to find our hostel, easier said than done we thought, however it actually wasn't too bad. A gentleman tried to show us the way and he wanted money for his services, the only problem with that ... read more

Greetings from Brussels everyone. Stephen and I decided to have a mini-break in Brussels for the weekend. Our weekend begin with catching the Eurostar, something Stephen had never done. It was a nice train compared to previous ones in Egypt. The process was pretty easy, we picked the tickets up, picked up some dinner and then went through customs our passports were stamped as if were heading going to France, just another stamp in the passport, the poor customs guy had to flick to find a spare page in both our passports. Our journey began with a short train trip around 2 and half hours, it was even better because we lost an hour going to the continent. We had the joy of staying at the Hilton Brussels City hotel - on staff rate!! The hotel ... read more

Bonfire Night in London. For those who don't know Bonfire Night or Guy Fawkes Night celebrates the Gunpowder Plot. Its name is given to the conspiracy to blow up the Houses of Parliament on 5 November 1605, which was discovered the night before. The plot centred around five conspirators, Robert Catesby, Thomas Winter, Thomas Percy, John Wright and Guy (or Guido) Fawkes, later joined by Robert Keyes, who determined to blow up of the House of Lords in 1605. The detonation was to take place on State Opening day, when the King, Lords and Commons would all be present in the Lords Chamber. There is no doubt that Fawkes, though remembered wrongly as the principal conspirator, was in fact a minor cog in the wheel. It is still the custom for Britain on, or around, 5th ... read more

We arrived safe and well in Belfast in the rain. Later we found this would be a reoccurring event in Ireland. Because we were travelling with Stephen’s parents they took the luxury of travelling by taxi to our hostel. I can hear the outcries from over hear, crazy I know. Let’s just say Paddy’s Hostel Belfast - WORST hostel ever. Now that I have that off my chest I can give you the low down of what we did in Belfast. We arrived in the afternoon and spent the afternoon strolling around the city, we saw the town hall and the information centre. This gave just enough information to plan our time in Belfast; we had one and a half days before we picked the car up to cruise the Causeway Coastal Drive. We headed to ... read more

When we arrived in Edinburgh that evening, Stephen and I had arranged to catch up with friends we’d met in Turkey for dinner and Jan and Pauline walked the street of Edinburgh to find a place for dinner. I tell you, Stephen and I were worried they wouldn’t make it back to the hotel alive, considering they weren’t on their five star tour of Canada now, they were roughing it with their backpacking son and daughter in-law. To our surprise there they were wrapped up in bed, safe and sound when we returned. The next day we headed straight to Edinburgh Castle. We spent a few hours exploring, had some lunch and then met up with long lost cousin Tuck - Anna, who has been in Edinburgh for a little while. After this we headed down ... read more

Tour of the British Isles including Ireland… As mentioned previously we have just spent the last two and a bit weeks with Stephen’s parents travelling around the UK and Ireland. This blog will be brief but we will share a few photos with you. The trip began on the 22nd of September when we managed to drive out of central London and make our way to Stonehenge. This was Jan and Pauline’s first example of Prehistoric ruins and let me say now it was not the last. From there we drive to Avebury, which is the location of the mightiest megalithic complex to have ever been constructed in Britain. Avebury has a henge, that with its enormous ditch, bank, stones and avenues survives in a much depleted state, but the nearby Silbury Hill which is the ... read more

Greetings from London Everyone, Up until this date Stephen and I have been settling into life very well I think. For those who don’t know I will go though what happened since we flew in from Munich on the 9th of July. We flew into Stansted, and let me just say NEVER AGAIN. Iit was so far away and cost so much to get into London and out to Crowthorne where Kirrilee lives. We were lucky enough to have Chris and Kirrilee as a starter base. We relaxed over the weekend, did ALL our washing and tried to get back to normal. As normal as it can be when you living in a strange country. We both started the job hunting process hoping to get something close by, the great news was that LegoLand in Windsor ... read more

Greetings from Germany Everyone. This is our last blog from Europe and we hope you all enjoy it. After finding our hostel which was surprisingly good, we headed into town to explore, the only problem with that was that we got rained out. Stephen thought it was a good idea for him to take his jacket, but not the hood and in fact no it wasn’t. So much so the hood hasn’t come off again. We decided to head out for dinner, luckily for us it was across the road to the Augustine Braushaus where we both downed a LITRE of beer. The glasses were massive and so heavy. We had decided it was a bit touristy for us, so we headed to another one just a few minutes away and it was tipsy mcstaggers distance. ... read more

We finally made it out of Berlin, and we managed that in a manual car and just a road map. We decided to stop enroute to Dresden along with all the other grey nomads and their campervans. It was quite a success, even if it took a little while. The beauty of the car was that we were able to stop on the way in some great little places, an example of this was Meissen. It was a compact, perfectly preserved old town with a great river which people would swarm in and picnic by in the sun. We had a quick stroll around the town, tasting the yummy ice-cream, seeing the Albrechtsburg Cathedral and 15th century palace. When we finally made in into Dresden which was wonderful. Dresden is a town that was almost completely ... read more

This blog is late, we don’t apologise. I had a cold and we didn’t have access to a computer for a little. And I didn’t feel like writing another what with finding jobs and a place to live in London. Anyway enough of that. For the past couple of days we have been in Berlin. It’s certainly different to Warsaw but fantastic, so big, so many people and the train system is unbelievable. Melbourne and Connex really suck. Our Germany experience began on the 29th of June, the Euro Cup final, Germany Vs Spain. Our hostel was owned by a Kiwi and they had toasted sandwiches on their restaurant menu. It was the greatest ham cheese and pineapple sandwich we’ve had. Stephen and I decided to find some locals and watch the game. We headed to ... read more
