We did the mandatory San Francisco tourist activities today. . .Rode a cable car -- with Laura and Steve hanging on the side. . .Had a delicious seafood lunch at Scoma's restaurant where they have their own fishing boat bring in their daily catch. . . Rode the one-hour bay cruise under the Golden Gate Bridge and around Alcatraz. To say it was a bit brisk would be an understatement! Very choppy waves, but there were large sailboats out, and even someone windsurfing. We rode to the top of Telegraph Hill (Coit Tower), with a great view of the city. Then walked to Chinatown for supper--what an amazing Chinatown! This is quite the city--so many different personalities to it--from the Spanish influenced architechture and palm trees to all the pretty painted Victorian homes to the ocean/beach ... read more

The only way you could get me to get up at 3 a.m. is for a vacation to California! Steve, Dana, & Mom (Grandma Betty) caught a 6 a.m. flight from Moline to Denver to San Francisco. (Thought of Heidi as we spent an hour in Denver airport.) Met Laura at SFO airport--Grandma needed a roommate. Rented a pretty shiny red car (driving a brand new Nissan sedan, not a '69 Z 28 Camaro, this time). Took a drive through San Francisco, over the Golden Gate Bridge, half hidden in the fog. Steve was surprised to find out the Golden Gate Bridge is red instead of gold colored! Enjoyed a late lunch in Sausalito (our stomachs are still on Central Time, so we were starving!). Spinnaker's restaurant had an unbelievable view of San Francisco Bay! Very ... read more

We made it!! Forty-six year old car with fifty-six year old driver (and passenger). Ten states in ten days. 3,515 miles. Seven days of car shows with 4,000 cars. Untold number of stops for refueling. Too many traffic jams. And, many, many stories of all the different cars guys have owned and fixed up. (You were right, Polly!) We have been blessed with pretty good weather for most of our trip This morning, we checked in to get our "long hauler" certificates/plaques at Chula Vista, then headed back home from the Dells.... read more

Today--our final destination: Wisconsin Dells. We made it here in record time, ahead of the crowd. The Camaro is running good! All pictures were taken through the window while we were cruising by! My Wisconsin family will be very familiar with our route through Dubuque and Platteville. Then, we passed through Dodgeville and Spring Green before arriving in the Dells. I think the scenery on this route rivals much of what we saw on the rest of our trip! A few more car pictures. . . I'm still looking for my old light blue impala with the surf boards on top. I've seen it several times arriving about the time we were leaving the days' venues. Cute, but I haven't been able to get a picture!... read more

We drove this morning from Indiana back to home territory. Venue of car show this afternoon is at the Isle of Capri in Bettendorf, IA. Since we are both starting to get tired with all this traveling and getting up early, it is lucky we are staying tonight in a place in Clinton with all the comforts of home. Lol No swimming pool though. Tomorrow a.m. we are off to the Wisconsin Dells, where we will spend the last two days of the tour.... read more

Well, we made it through Day 6 with no disabling car problems. However, the windshield wiper (the whole wiper arm and blade) flew off as we were cruising through the rain at 55 mph! Steve just started laughing, and went back and picked it up. He had an extra blade, and was able to fix it up, with the help of some tape. Steve also needed some bandaging--cut his finger while fixing the wiper, and he has burns and scrapes all over his hands from working on his hot engine over the past few days! We made it to Norwalk, OH, Motorsports Park. We had a nice supper at Red Lobster in Sandusky, near our hotel. Bobby, David, and Laura will remember some of the good times we have had on family vacations to Sandusky, camping ... read more

Well, I am catching up on this blog I am trying to figure out how to use. . . Now that my Ipad batteries are fully charged and we have internet access. I think I am ready to send out invites. . . hopefully you will be able to view the previous posts, too! We left the Charleston area this morning, driving into Kentucky and Ohio, along the Ohio river. Heading to Norwalk, Ohio.... read more

Got an early start, and headed on the route from Knoxville to Charleston, WV, going through Virginia and Kentucky on the way. The routes mapped out by the Power Tour are mostly scenic state highways, not necessarily the quickest ways from point A to B. Many people stopped on the way to watch or take pictures of all the classic cars going by. (It's amazing to me how excited people can get about cars!) Arrived in Charleston for the start of the daily car show. Thousands of sporty cars parked along the riverfront in Charleston--had to wait in line to get parked in the car show and started to burn out the clutch, so Steve had a stressful time, figuring out what to do about that. . . We found out there is a car medic ... read more

This is the first day of the actual Power Tour--thousands of classic cars, muscle cars, unique cars driving half way across the country. First leg: Charlotte to Knoxville, by way of Chimney Rock. Steve had a lot of fun driving in the winding roads of the Smokies. However, had some issues on way to Lake Lure. Dipstick holder broke. A very kind man, Patrick, helped out. Let us pull in his driveway. He helped Steve work on it and run all over the county for parts. We are very grateful! After many hours of hard work and worry, Steve got us on the road again, and we were actually able to make it to Knoxville. Unfortunately, it didn't leave much chance to stop in the lovely little town of Lake Lure. Couldn't get many good pictures, ... read more

Day 3, we joined up with others from Clinton, IA, to caravan together from Knoxville, TN, to Charlotte, NC. We stopped at a Waffle House in Mooreville, NC, for lunch. Unfortunately, Steve & I dropped out of the caravan shortly after that when grey smoke came out of exhaust. Steve didn't want to take a chance, so stopped to look at engine. Figured out it was a hose. A young local guy named Mason stopped to admire the car and hung around to help give Steve a ride to get what he needed to fix it. Took quite some time, so really had to hurry to get to the official starting point of the Power Tour in Charlotte, NC. Got there just in time, as the registration and car show ended at 6 p.m. Stayed at ... read more
