Geo: 47.4393, -10.17I could leave today's blog blank as I did very little other than relax and read. It was definitely not outdoor weather as evident by all the empty sun loungers on decks 11 & 12. At least it was not raining and the sea was nice and calm.We had breakfast a bit later than usual as we were slow to rise this morning. Fermin was cleaning the room as we returned and so we went and did others things for half a hour whilst he finished. There was a $10 sale on the Royal Promenade which is always something of a bun fight. It take a brave soul to venture into that and so I skirt around it. I find a quiet spot outside in the Diamond Lounge which is sheltered from the cool ... read more

Geo: 42.2651, -16.8478Adventure of the Seas in on a heading of 52 degrees as she makes her way toward Southampton. The coast of mainland Portugal is roughly 500 miles east of us at present. The sea is very calm although it is very cool (bordering on cold) out on the balcony first thing. There are some light clouds blocking the sun but looking ahead of the ship it looks a lot brighter. I spy some dolphins making there way southward. To warmer climes if they have any sense. We breakfast in the main dining room. A nice couple from Somerset are to our left and then another nice couple from Essex are seated to our right. Topic of conversation? Mostly cruising...no surprise there then. Peter decides to head to the gym earlier today. I grab my Kindle ... read more

Europe » Portugal » Azores » São Miguel » Ponta Delgada April 30th 2014

Geo: 37.7463, -25.6668After five days at sea it is strange to awaken and look out of the cabin window to see land. The nine islands of the Azores are dotted across the Atlantic Ocean some 900 miles west of mainland Portugal. Even though they are officially part of Portugal they are completely autonomous, a fact the Azoreans seem quite proud of.We dock in Ponta Delgada, the biggest town, on the largest of the Azoreans Islands, São Miguel, at around 7am. Our breakfast we ordered the previous evening is delivered to our room shortly afterwards and we enjoy this on the balcony as we watch small fishing boats set out from the harbour into the open seas.Just before 8am we head down to the Lyric Theatre on Deck 4 so that we can hand in our tour ... read more

Geo: 35.5447, -31.9268The morning air is definitely much cooler now we are farther north. There is a fresh breeze off the ocean but the sea is much calmer than previous days. It looks almost like glass. There is some mist on the horizon that seems to surround the boat like a cocoon. We have seen no other ship, boat, or aeroplane for days. We are all that exists. A floating microcosm of life.We are late risers today, must have been that 2nd bottle of wine. We shower and breakfast before heading to the final day of the Progressive Trivia Quiz. As before some of the questions are pretty tricky. One question is which hair on the human body is the very last to turn grey due to age. We put pubic but turns out it is ... read more

Oceans and Seas » Atlantic » Atlantis April 28th 2014

Geo: 32.5985, -37.4388Its quite hard to blog about sea days as after a few they tend to merge into one. As at home we tend to develop certain routines and habits. We always venture out onto the balcony first thing and Peter brings the coffees which is very nice. We shave, shower and decide what to wear. Forecast for today is partly cloudy skies and a temperature of 22c (75f) degrees which is still very pleasant for us British folk.We have breakfast in the main dining room again before heading to the Imperial Lounge for the Trivia. We do ok. We surprise ourselves by getting some of the more obscure questions correct but kick ourselves for missing some of the easier/obvious ones. The main thing its all good fun and we learn a thing or two ... read more

Geo: 29.1122, -45.4397I awake slowly on this Sunday morning. Light is filtering beneath the curtains and there is still some motion to the ship although it has lessened from the night before. We take our time this morning. the Progressive Trivia does not start till 10am. As it's a Sunday we decide to breakfast on the balcony which means we can eat before we need to shave & shower. I think I have had Eggs Benedict every day of this cruise, I may have to try something different for a change. We make our way to the Imperial Lounge and make our apologies to the rest of the team for our absence the day before. We find out they did ok without us. Oceans and Seas » Atlantic » Atlantis April 26th 2014

Geo: 24.829, -52.1515I am wide awake at 4am this morning. There is significantly more creaking going on that normal and I can definitely feel some motion from the ocean. Shortly afterwards I hear Peter get up and leave the cabin. He can't sleep either. I arise and head out onto the balcony. It's just getting light. A crescent moon and a twinkling Venus hang in the pre-dawn sky. There are some large swells moving out across the ocean. The Captain later confirms that a storm off the east coast of the USA has stirred up the ocean hence the swells. They are not too bad and are coming at Adventure broadside and lifting the ship up and down in one motion, there is no pitching from bow to stern.I spend the early morning blog writing. Peter ... read more

Geo: 21.3422, -57.7332I awake to the creaking sounds of a ship at sea. At least I hope it's the ship creaking and not my bones. Today is our first sea day of the crossing. We made steady progress north eastward through the night. The early morning temperature is still pleasantly warm as we are still in the sub-tropics. The days will get cooler now as we make our way towards the Azores.Sea days are strange days. Strange to look out from the balcony and know there is nothing before us but league after endless league of water. I have no idea what is lurking beneath the waves. Marine life out this far is likely to be Sailfish, Bluefin Tuna or migrating Whales and Turtles. I know for certain that the Azores is an excellent location for ... read more

Geo: 18.0303, -63.0488Adventure slips into Philipsburg, St Maarten in the Dutch Antilles around 8am today. We are a late arrival. 5 other ships have arrived before us. Freedom of the Seas, Royal Princess, Norwegian Sun, Celebrity Summit & Carnival Ecstasy. It means we have a port load today of about 17,500 people...gulp.Breakfast is again in the main dining room. Diamond, Diamond+, Pinnacle & Suite Guests have exclusive access to deck 5 of the main dining room so it is less busy than down on deck 3 and certainly more refined than the Windjammer. We love the Windjammer but it can be something of a scrum down at times, particularly on sea days. The reason I love breakfast in the main dining room is because its the only place where you can get Eggs Benedict which is ... read more

Geo: 18.4638, -66.1075I awake before Peter today and head out onto the balcony as the sun is rising over the ocean. It is around 7.30 and we are not scheduled to arrive into San Juan until about mid-day. The ocean is a flat calm as we make a steady 17 knots southward. I see some flying fish flitter out of our way as they skim across the water. Peter is soon awake and fetches coffees from the concierge lounge which is situated just a deck below us.Breakfast is in the main dining room. We are sat next to a nice Canadian couple that we get chatting to. They ask us what are plans are today and we tell them that Sue and Malcolm are going to introduce us to Geocaching.
