Middle East » Turkey December 31st 2021

So what is the first rule of our travel life - avoid cities and rush hour! So how did we find ourselves now wending our way through Istanbul's rush hour traffic in the dark ?!?! Well the border crossing took a little longer with only a few cars infront but each seemed to have issue's with their paperwork. It has been a challenge to keep up with what each country requirements are but it appears we were more prepared than the few car's in front! Also we have now jumped another hour making it 3hrs ahead of the UK. So as we make our way through the traffic forwarned of Turkish driving I try to soothe Graeme through the chaos. Surprisingly the 2 lane carriageway becomes 3 with drivers using the bus/hard shoulder to manoeuvre themselves ... read more

Europe » Bulgaria November 30th 2021

The crossing back into Bulgaria is our longest drive for a while and whilst we are not visiting Sofia its capital we will be staying there tonight. But Serbia has one more surprise, some more atrocious roads, seemingly better than some two weeks go when they were completely removed but even after an early start it takes us some time to get to the border. There has been some anxiety from Graeme in returning back into the EU with the dog and her mounting pile of paperwork, in reality we have everything we need but this is unchartered territory since we left the EU and whilst every crossing she has just been waived through all with an air of disinterest, his concern is just it takes just that one time where they deem it incorrect. But ... read more

Europe » Serbia November 10th 2021

As we drive to our next border crossing there is always a little anxiety, but the reality is that there have never been an issue (long that may continue) There is a little conversation about the dog and its size, we are asked to step out of the van and the border guard peers in and we point at Poppy's travel crate, he can’t really see her but seems to have expedited some form of diligence.... and with that we are in! As we head to our first park up for the night by a small lake I feel my tensions rise, we have obviously arrived in a very impoverished area and are back to the land of rubbish. I google ‘Serbia and recycling' to find out that they currently only recycle between 5-8% of their ... read more

Europe » Croatia November 5th 2021

So everyone needs a beach holiday and this is going to be ours, one month of sun and sand. Well none of that as I know from a visit to Split, Croatia with good friend Laura in 2019, sand is in short supply here, but you get the drift! We head to Polidor Camping, whilst I’m not a great fan of campsites there is the great pleasure in knowing that hot water will be plentiful and showers will be a daily occurrence, a real luxury in this lifestyle.... Graeme has only just about got the chairs and tables out and I’ve got washing in the on site washing machines, oh my, the simple things. We have 5 glorious days on the campsites own beach and the many small bays that hug the coast in this part ... read more

Europe » Slovenia October 13th 2021

So we left you on a cliffhanger... had the parcel arrived, well of course it hadn't, so we decided to cross the border, completely unnoticed into Slovenia. Our idea was to stay close to the Border so we could drive back when or if the parcel arrived. It turn out that at our first stop we find that Slovenia has gone into stricter lockdown and proves the case when we are almost unable to buy a glass of wine at the hill top village we are spending the night in. After viewing our Covid passes we get our first glass of local Slovenian wine! Followed by a local supplier where I purchase a litre and half, the size of the empty water bottle! for 3 euros, and very palatable it was. The next problem could be ... read more

Well I hope you are all sitting comfortably as I am about to start again... Thank you to those who have come back for some more of my ramblings and to new folks here your most welcome! I write this and will hopefully finish before as we get to Slovenia, country number 3 of what we hope will be a journey of a further 6 countries, maybe more might be less. I write (Graeme does the clever stuff and gets it online) for us mainly but conscious that you the audience wish to be entertained or sometimes educated. That's a laugh in itself as I failed almost all of my exams, well if grade E at CSE level counts but I hope that you will stay with us on the journey... So what does travel look ... read more

Just an update from us The Nomadic Mills's. We hope 2021 will end better than it has started, and perhaps some normality may return for us all. We find ourselves in Dorset under this lockdown and are so thankful that we have a friend who has a friend who is able to accommodate us very comfortably on his land, but how did we find ourselves here!! Back in February last year whilst organising Graeme’s 60th Birthday celebrations (24/12) we planned to head to Scotland and complete what is lovingly called the NC500 followed by a stay at a Lakeland Hotel over Christmas. THE NC500 is a 500 mile circuit from Inverness up and over the North Coast. We have loved and travelled to Scotland many times now, in different season’s but never really over the winter ... read more

16th April to 4th May - We are going nowhere! The daily normal becomes slow, not too stressful! The weather is mixed warm, still sometimes cooler over night! We have one peak over a weekend when it hits 40c a taste of what is to come, and for us and Poppy sake we need to get out before those temperatures become the norm!! But that doesn’t sound or look hopeful, our booking has been changed to the 12th of May still with our destination as Barcelona, but we know that is an issue with Spain still in lockdown. As much as we try some 6 phone calls to GNV (The ferry company) to change the booking to the end destination of Sete in France they are unwilling to make that change! We hang on to the ... read more

Stuck isn’t a word I think of often! Its for children who get their arm wedged in the fence at a playground, those idiots at bream sands who get stuck in the sand, or that annoying jar lid that won't budge, but we have had to accept that for the last few weeks we have been stuck too, how did we get to this point, well if you have the stamina read on! 12th March Tanger Med Port closes - Our time with Laura and Martin was coming close to the end we had had an amazing 3 weeks together, some amazing memories. We were heading to Marrakech party town for a few nights together before they headed back to the UK and for us to have a couple of weeks downtime before we continued to ... read more

I start this blog not from the beginning but at the end. Why? Many of you will be wondering where we are and how the devastating coronavirus is impacting our travel plans. We firstly wish all friends and family good health in these worrying times. The ramifications we will be dealing with for a long time, in not only health but financial impacts for many who are less fortunate than we‘re in the UK! To that end were now under lockdown in a campsite near Marrakech. This was our intended destination after we believed we would have safely waved off Laura and Martin for their ferry. We learned last Friday that sailings had been cancelled to Spain, but as we intended to be here for another 6 weeks of our planned 3 month tour it wasn’t ... read more
