Yay for Rob and his stitches... Hey Rob!!!
Just wanted to let you know that there are some of us out here still very much enjoying your blogs... Its my little escape from an otherwise mundane routine... And great to see you're on the mend!
However, I do need to question exactly who your sponsers are for your stay in hospital...? The Ads appearing down the side of this blog are offering Thai Women for Dating, Cheap flights to Phuket, and the latest information on wound care. All of that, coupled with the photos of the lovely nurses and the lovely knee make me wonder whether you aren't simply part of some strange advertising campaign...?

Rob in Hospital dear Rob,
I am so sorry to read your latest blog about the knee graft and the time you are having to spend in Bankok hospital. The frustration must be overwhelming at times, to say nothing of the concern you must be feeliong, not absolutely sure you have grasped everything the doctor has told you. I attended the clinic here with a minor infection, and my spanish inadequacy suddenly had me in a wheelchair, with full scan etc and put into a bed!!! I sat for 3 hours, writing in Spanish to explain that it was just an alergic reaction, not a full hospital bed job!! it was nothing like your experience, but still a bit of panic set in.
Do think twice about travelling through Laos especially with any kind of wound. There are even worse bugs in the dust and air there which could so easily reinfect the wound. We were told that Laos was the biggest health challenge and although you can get by by being very careful when you are fit, it will be a different matter with a healing wound of that size because you cannot escape the dust or the water supply.
Sorry to add to your woes, but recovery is , as you say, a priority. Don´t forget, there will be another opportunity to go to S.E Asia! Its not as if you are 61!!!
I do hope that you are on the mend by the time you receive this and are feeling alot better,
Love
Penny
My God Robert! Dear Rob,
Went to ´wound Watch´ It is scary how a small injury can develop so dangerously. I am so pleased to see that it is healing well and I know that the Bankok hospitals are very good. So hope that is progreesing well.
I loved the photos of you convalesence beech hut. The views were a real reminder that their is heat and sun in the world!!
I continue at the orphanage in pomacanche in Peru. it is nearly a thousand feet further up the Andies thanCuzco and takes up to 3 hours of tortuous roads to reach it. conditions are primitive to put it mildly, but the children are beautiful and so affectionate, it is hard not to get too attached or to stop them beoming too attached to us. we spend weekends in civilisation in Cuzco and plan lots of fun workshops for their evenings. I am really emjoying it , except the toilet cleaning duty!
I look forward to the rest of your trip,
All love Penny
Skin graft? Okay where are they going to find a chunk of skin big enough to fill that hole? Make sure they take some from each cheek:) Hope you are feeling heaps better!
Yuk! I have to say Rob, that this hole in your leg is precisely why I'm a psych nurse and not a physical nurse. It looks rather nasty. Anyway, I'm glad your on the mend. (Stop worrying your Mother!!!) I have really enjoyed reading your blogs and rather jealous I'm not doing the same thing!!!! (except the gammy leg thing!!) X
Southern Softie... That's nowt lad - I've just given birth - get on with it! ;-)
We're here in Oxford showing off the product of my labours to your family... sorry you missed it. Rich has already over stimulated him - it took hours to bring the poor little guy down!

Gay Chat i think you should be slightly disturbed that everytime i log on to your blogs there's a Gay Chat banner down the side!!??
Glad you're having a fab time - hope the bum skin shaving for the graft goes well

Overland snorkling race... Did you opponent realise that you've been practising running in flippers since the age of about 7...? Need we pull out that You-tube home flying fox video as proof, or are you going to admit that you're pro-level and shouldn't have been competing...

Map reading Must be hard reading a map and deciding which road to take when there is 3 roads on it ... Shell must be real happy with their grad intake this year!
Weeds??? Why was he trying to sell you weeds and not vegetables?
Stick with the fruit and veg my boy - sounds fabulosa.
Whilst you're there check out how to grow rice successfully as the whole of Oxfordshire is now looking like a giant paddy field. Grandma Clarice's old house is under 3 feet of water and all the old folks have been evaculated to local hotels.
Can you get the folk there to send us food parcels!!!!
From a fellow exile Nice one Rob. I am reading this in my room in the Doctor's quarters at Kupang Hospital, which by the recent addition of a fridge, wardrobe and wireless Internet means that I now have more facilities than your mother who is without power, telephones and maybe drinking water back in 3rd World Oxford.
So glad you are having a great time, keep up the Blog
I have just graduated from Imperial College London with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering. I have a job with Shell starting in February, which means until then I have 6 months to travel and see a bit of the world!
Thought it would be a good idea to get a travel blog going so those interested enough can keep up to date on my where abouts, it also has the advantage of saving me from having to write loads of emails with similar content. Bear in mind internet connection is not always easy to find out here and when it is it's generally not the fastest, but I'll do my best to keep my travel blo... full info
