Free BucketFree BucketFree Bucket

For those of you who don't know I will explain later what a 'Bucket' is, but for the time being, it's basically a drink.........and that's all that was required to tempt this athletes into the ring.
Arrived on Ko Phi Phi from Ao Nang, acquiring a group of seven others along to way with whom to share accommodation and stories.

I was looking forward to Ko Phi Phi as lots of people had said they'd liked it. It is a beautiful island with it's nearbour Ko Phi Phi Leh, being where 'the beach' was filmed and where you cannot stay, but visit only on day trips. Ko Phi Phi itself had too much of a resort feel to it for me, very built up, with not so many backpackers as lads and ladettes holidaying. Anyway, once I'd accepted it for what it was, I was ready to enjoy it for what it was......a beach holiday away from travelling. The group I'd acquired along the way were great, two english lads on there gap year; Andy and Simon, two Canadians and another English couple, who only stayed for a day, but were replaced by the two girls, Izzy and Amy with whom I had met before on the coach from Cambodia to Bangkok, and again on Railay beach a few days earlier.

Anyway, the main thing that I wanted to with you about Ko Phi Phi was......

Reggae Bar

.....absolute genius.
FightersFightersFighters

Two fighters in peak physical condition duking it out in the ring for the crown of 'slightly less pissed out of the two'. The shot is a bit blurred....these guys just moved too fast for modern technology (or did i have the wrong setting?)
This is the only bar I have ever been to which has a thai boxing ring in the centre, a proper thai boxing ring, in which....yes... any two people can fight each other, not trained thai boxers or exhibition fighters....pissed tourists. And Yes, this is a resort with its fair share of pissed English and Irish lads keen and eager, and alllowed, to get into the ring and fight each other, no holds barred. Boy-boy, lady-lady, ladyboy-ladyboy, ladyboy-lady, ladyboy-boy fights were all permitted, and yes, I saw most of these combinations fight. The first fight I witnessed two rather large ladies going at it. The rest was mainly english lads, but the last fight I saw on my final night was between a rather big shaved headed eastern European (I think) and a small lady boy.......it was a draw.

Anyway, I think this is genius and should be employed in England. Take the fighting off the street and into a ring I say, so the rest of us can chose at our own will wether to watch these mindless idiots stumble and flail around on our nights out.

So a good few nights were had out on Ko Phi Phi

A classy place full of only the most upmarket clientel!
and I had a real laugh, but to be honest, it could of been anywhere, it could of been England had I not been warm in a vest.

However, one day I was able to persuade Mirijam, Izzy and Amy to take a day trip to visit Ko Phi Phi Leh, the neighbouring island. We got to do some snorkling and visit some nice beaches, including....the famous 'beach'........which I must say, was a massive dissapointment. Full of tourists....a bit like me I suppose, not particularly nice beach in itself and the water was full of lumps of coral, very disspointed, but the company was good so we still had a laugh. Actually, the nicest beach we visited and still the most idealic beach I've visited to this day was one we stopped on for lunch (and flipper races), the name of I'm unsure (see photo's). Watch the video of me kicking Izzy's arse in an overland snorkling race.

Using my engineering degree I cunningly fashioned this super long straw from a number of lesser straws. Using this device I was able to take advantage of the generally high level of pissedness around me and simple steel drinks from people as they chatted. This saved me a great deal of effort (and money) from having to go to the bar myself. Not just a hat rack!!!

I would like to point out that this is the last sighting I have of my blue hat (RIP), you can see how much fun I'm having wearing it, it was roughly 30 minutes after this picture was taken that said item was stolen.

Overland snorkling race...
Did you opponent realise that you've been practising running in flippers since the age of about 7...? Need we pull out that You-tube home flying fox video as proof, or are you going to admit that you're pro-level and shouldn't have been competing... C
