!Warning!

Before reading any further I should point out that this entry is less of a travel blog and more of a rant, a means to vent some of the anger and frustration I felt during the course of the following event. If you're not interested in hearing any of it, or have anything else even remotely interesting to do right now, i suggest you skip this.

Now, those of you who know me know I am quite fond of my hats, I've managed to build up quite a collection and now feel I have a nice variety to chose from whenever I feel to sport such attire, which is quite often. Before coming away travelling I had to make the tough decision as to which hat from my collection was going to accompany me on my travels... I went with the blue trucker hat....thanks for asking?!?

My first night out on Ko Phi Phi I decided to wear the ONE hat I'd bought with me travelling and late in the evening, after the ever clasey 'Apachi' bar closed everone poured out to the beach front before gathering themselves and heading onto the only bar open to end the night. Whilst waiting for the rest of the people I had come with, a drunk English girl appeared and said that she liked my hat and asked if she could wear it. Before even having the chance to answer she had already taken it off my head and was wearing it for herself. Now, this situation is not so unfamiliar, it seems that on a night out, people, girls in particular find it funny to take a hat from a persons head and wear if for themselves. This usually then involves some kind of chase, bit of banter and the return of said item, something I've never really enjoyed (as i'm sure some of you know).... however, she was pretty fit so I was willing to homour her for a while. Anyway, she thought she would take this hilarious joke a bit further by running off into the crowd with it. By this point, her annoyingness was quickly outweighing her fittness and I was getting pissed off. I went after her to get it, but of course, she cleverly handed it to her to fat friend, cunning. This again is a situation not so unfamiliar; girl takes hat, runs away, gives it back, hahaha, great! But not really being in the mood, I really just wanted by hat back..... and if i'm honest, this girl banished from the face of the earth also. But between them they didn't give it back, but not willing to play this game anymore I figured they would be at the next bar and i could get it back then, so i went back and joined my friends.

My evening was now ruined as I spent the rest of the night searching the next bar for this silly bitch and my hat..........to no avail, this girl was a genuine hat thief and i had fell victum.

Those of you thinking, 'what's the big deal, it's just a hat, you can buy a new one', as some of those around me were gracious enough to point out, you simply do not understand. A hat is a personal thing, I had become very attached to this hat and yes, I got up early the next day to see what Ko Phi Phi had to offer as a replacement, one word........RUBBISH! The most frustrating thing of all is that this girl will probably wear it for a day or two and then leave it somewhere and forget about it.

One of the lads I was with, a Canadian guy called Mike could at least feel my pain, he had fallen victum to the same mindless crime in Bangkok, however, he bumped into his desperado the night before on Ko Phi Phi and confronted her. She then, and this is good, apparently broke down in tears ranting about some friend who'd died from drugs, thus, making it impossible for Mike to raise the issue of his 'lost hat', huh, the tatics these hat steelers will employ, scandelous.

So, if you are still reading this; (a) why? do you not have anything better to do? (b) you can take some solace to know that I have since bought a new hat, upon arriving back at Ao Nang. However, it is a poor replacement and feels like an imposter to my head, it will take some getting used to and if I'm honest, I'm still not convinced this one even has what it takes to fill the gap.

So to all you girls out there ....hands of the hats!
