Banjo's Ray, Michelle,
Did you hear banjo's when you were riding on the "trail" with signs of being shot? Sounds very interesting, glad you ended on a paved road eventually. Good exploring. Great pictures of Denali. I . may want the tiny place on the lake, nice little trailer. Enjoy your time with Wayne and Rhonda. Living the dream, keep having fun.
Talkeetna Loved Talkeetna and one of my main goals to see in AK. Don Sheldon's "Wager with the Wind" Piper Cub is at Sheldon Air service. His daughter now runs the service. Great coffee at the yurt in Talkeetna. You forgot to mention that Northern Exposure was based on Talkeetna. Great trip blog! Keep going.
About Talkeentna It was a nice little town but we found it more commercial than either of us expected. Mostly one shop after another. I think the people that live there full time are very nice and it would be a great place to put down roots but they must make their money in the summer while they can so they can enjoy the rest of the year. Bring in the bus, take the money, send the bus back down the road. Just my impression. If you stayed there a week or so, got to know the locals I suspect it would be different. Hard to get the pulse of the town in just a few hours.
Wow! What an awesome adventure you guys are on. Sorry I've been so quiet. Been teaching summer school. Finally time for vacation. Stay safe and intrigued. Love ya.
What a story Great blog Dad, I am so glad you made it through Bangor, Alaska style. Loved the pictures of the mountain, thinking about the climbers makes me appreciate adventure. It is too bad you didn't reverse the order of your lake visits. Thank you as always for your detailed descriptions of your adventures. Austins says the mine looks really cool and he laughed at your door joke. We are heading to Creation Festival for 4 day camping trip in the mountains of Central PA, won't be as impressive as Mt Denali but still filled with God's beauty. We love you and Michelle (lookin very happy mamma)
Had to do some catching up with the Blogs. You remember how it is when you work for a living right? So 6 hours before she realized this type of catch she couldn't take with her?
Glacier hiking Awesome reading, I can imagine how beautiful it is there. The Moose is Loose bakery looks very inviting. Thanks for sharing natures pictures with us. Keep doing what we all dream of and read about in books. Happy trails
Moving North Thanks Doc, we are excited about moving North into new territory and we hope it is as special as the south has been. What a great place this is, you would certainly be right at home in Alaska. You need to visit here.
Meeting Celebrities Ray, Michelle, You meet some nice TV celebrities. You may not talk with the "regular folks" anymore. Are you thinking of "homesteading" with them? Otto, Atz,Kelly and families. OR are you going fishing on the Time Bandit? Have seen some of the Deadliest Catch shows and it looks challenging at times. At least something was very much like the book... Skilak lakes. Still getting exercise doing rock climbing. Seems even though it was poor weather you made the very best of things. Stay young and keep having fun.
:) It was nice catching up with Shell yesterday. We are happy that you guys are having the time of your life! Great pictures! Ok, the one with Michelle and the young guys ...the best! :) xoxo
Glad you found us If you want I can put you on distribution so you will get notification of updates. Looking forward to catching up in September when we return. We are having a great time, this has been an adventure of a lifetime for us and I am glad we have been able to share with all our friends and family. Knowing you it may not be the best place for you to visit as you would never want to leave!!!
A book of your travels Ubuildabook.com
Your descriptions are so well written and the photos are stupendous. Have you thought of turning your blogs into a book? Christmas shopping would be half done! Those folks up there are rugged, are Yukon Men on your itinerary? Lol.
Can Do that from Travelblog Travelblog has a function that will let you turn your blog into a book. My fear is I will lose some of the data so I have started backing it up on my computer as I go.
You've got some serious bragging rights now! You captured your experience in words so well I felt like I was there with you. I could smell the ocean and feel the tug of the current and held my held my breath when you described just missing landing a catch. (Is that how you say it? I don't know.) I don't know anything about fishing, but your joy is so infectious I feel like I've been on a fishing trip. You should submit this blog for publication. The photos are fabulous!
Thanks for the comment So glad you are enjoying the blogs. I really enjoy putting the words and pictures together to tell the story of our travels. I hope everyone feels they are sharing in our adventure in a small but important way. It is also our way of staying in touch. It's all here on the internet so I guess in a way it is already published.
