un sueño April, I totally understand your comment about the rest of the world fading into a dream when you arrived in Honduras. I'm so glad that you and Hannah and I got to spend time in Copán this year!!!
We missed you!!! April, we missed you so much!!! The cool gifts you brought back were nice, and not having you for spanish was sad! I can't wait to go to Honduras with you!!!!!!!!!!! Only four years!!!!!!!!!!!
My home, La Joya I have been reading your blogs through blurry teary eyes...and even sobs of joy...I grew up in La Joya, and swam in that river daily (was recently told that because of the tomato fields, the river is now just a shallow stream). My parents were missionaries to the town of Piedra Gorda, but we lived on the side of the mountain, directly above La Joya. My best friends parents lived in the missionary compound of La Joya, and were Wycliffe Bible Translators who translated the Bible for the tolpani (Hicackie) indians of La Montana de La Flor. This area was my stomping grounds for the first 14 years of my life, and will always be home. I traveled every mountain, bareback, on my white Honduran mustang, and it will always be home...whether I ever get to go back or not.
Just recently, last month, I have begun to receive phone calls from the village where my parents ministered, and it feels like heaven to talk to those dear people who became family to me. I am a single mother of 5 kids, been through much hardship (married a man who was very simular to a Honduran man), so I am not at a place where I could return. However, I totally empathize with Honduran women, who are practically all single moms. I am currently writing a book about life in Honduras, to record what life was like, and the changes that occured as a result of people serving the Lord there.
God bless you,
Gracie Lucas
I lived in La Joya for 14 years! Hello, my name is Grace Lucas and I was an MK in Ja Joya Honduras til I was 14, my parents were missionaries to the local town of Piedra Gorda, and our best friends there were the Dennis's who translated the Bible for the Tulapani people group, Hicockie Indians (what they used to be called). I was so blessed to find this blog, and praise God that He continues to send people to this "Gold Mine"...I believe that actually "La Joya" means Gem mine. There are still many gems hidden in that valley, and my prayer is that people will continue to yield their hearts to the Spirits calling to minister there. Bless you!

No, as far as I know there's no online site to sell the dolls. They are really well done though. If you are seriously interested though let me know. I'm planning a trip back to Copan next spring, but also have a lot of connections that travel back and forth fairly often.
I would also like to purchase some of these cornhusk dolls If these beautiful dolls are available for online purchase, please contact me. I've never seen any so beautifully made.
Bienvenidos Welcome back, Abril! I'm so glad you got to return to Honduras! Thanks for taking down my notes. Hannah says she hopes to visit you again this semester. She returned to AC yesterday.

Glad you made it safe and sound to Copan luggage and all!!! I'm currently on Marco Island, FL - leave Friday -- with 3 friends - mid eighties and sunny --- Love and hugs. B
I read somewhere that Honduras has suffered a regression of about 10 years in the tourist industry due to the turmoil this year. Sad.
Glad your trip has been successful thus far!
Since starting to travel in 1998 I haven't been able to stop! Which just goes to show what can happen to a shy, little farm-girl that never even wanted to leave home!
I began this blog in 2007 during my year and half of teaching and missions work in Honduras. Before that I'd been to Germany, Brazil, Ecuador and Guatemala. I'm eager to see where all I will end up and the new adventures and opportunities God gives me to experience!
I love seeing new places, experiencing new cultures, learning new languages, but most of all I love meeting new people! It's the friends that I make that t... full info
