Welcome back! Hey guys welcome back and so glad the trip home was enjoyable. It was great to read about your adventures in Costa Rica, I can't wait to see you person so I can give you all a big hug. Too bad about the snow but what a welcome home gift from the weather gods. Hey Ron, could you use a long board instead of a tobogan.
welcome back It was great to follow your travels and trials and tribs while trying to acclimatize to a culture very dissimilar to our own.Fascinating and welcome back after a successful year(nearly) of travel.
Shon and (I travelled to Mexico after the New Year.It was fabulous.Landed in Cancun and immediately left there to discover Mexico.Fascinating country--110,000,000 million people-63 language groups. How do they hold it together?Amazingly, they do and are so beautiful in how they do it.Something we could learn from.Shon and I want to go back but we have purchased a piece of land in Eastend and our intention is to build a studio and shop in one building.I'm sure you don't want all the details. If you are curious I would be glad to write more.As for now I will only say it is going to be "alternative building"--ie.as green as we cAN MAKE IT.Lots of solar gain technology-ie.house aimed the correct direction with glass in the correct spots etc.We are beginning our sojourn side by side with an alternative building Co. composed of engineers at U.of Manitoba, who have set up a company to work with people who want to build differently ie.stackwall,earth-berm,straw-bale etc.We are excited.WE are still happy to be here although we have looked at alternatives in this past year and have not found anything better that is also in our price range.Enough already.Good to hear from you.I look forward to hearing more from you.Keep well.Stephen
Welcome Back! That picture of the boys looking NOT happy to be leaving Samara would be me if I had to leave Costa Rica before my year was up! You've had a great adventure and it's wonderful that you have a place there to go back to. I could get used to avocado and star fruit trees in the yard. I tried to identify your mystery tree, but couldn't find anything in my little book.
Good to hear you are coming back. It is interesting to think of what type of tour/stay adventure you are getting into!!! But even more important is where you will end up here. It does not sound too good for jobs but maybe something will come up that will interest you. You had a great time in Costa Rica so that is a nice thing.
I am currently on the west coast but soon going back to Saskatchewan to enjoy the warm winds on spring!! See ya!
Alan
Well what an advebture you have been on. I will need a month just to hear allabout it when you get back. Hope you all have a safe and fun trip back home to Saskatchewan!!!
Esparza I enjoyed ready your blog, I have a son that lives in esparza, he bought a home there, matter of fact he is getting merried to a local girl there next month. My daughter and I plan on coming that way this summer and of course we are going to try to get a bungalo or beach front place , just looking around to see what was close and camp upon your site, enjoyed very much.
hope you are having a good time. Hi Ron and gang:
I hope all of you are enjoying the warm weather, not bad here at 16 today. I am working one more year, take care.. Nick Reifferscheid
We really miss you... You are an amazing family and we all miss you so much! Sounds great if you have done it all except snorkelling and are ready to come home! Good luck with your decision! Take care! and thanks for the wonderful journal and pics!! Love Deb and all the Alleykatz kids
pretty country It lloks very pretty there. The trip through the park looks idyllic!!
It sounds like you are not teaching there right now? Did you find it interfering with your holiday time!!!
I am in Vancouver for a while and a bit of a tour of the island. It is a cold winter in Saskatchewan and nice to miss part of it. But then why tell you this!!!!
Alan
What a beautiful country. Sorry we didn't make it down there this winter. I'm sure you will be heading back there some day. It would be hard to resist. Looking forward to seeing you all back home.
What's next? OMG, I have been reading your blog for the last 2 days. Like a good book, I couldn't put it down. I must say I feel very exhausted for you but also excited and exhilerated with one adventure after another. It is like watching SURVIVOR and can't wait for the next entry. I admire your strength and stamina through some of the many challenges you faced. Your family has grown and you will all have these special memories, now that you've done it, you don't need to wonder what if! I enjoyed reading this greatly. Thank-you for the amazing ride!! Be safe. ttfn joni
lucky! wow. you guys are so lucky to be having all this fun and such great visitors! And all that fish! They must know you all by name in Samara by now. I came home and have been cold ever since - even though, now spring is here! The Pelican...
I absolutely love hearing about all of your adventures! Your great descriptions about your travels have convinced me that we will be taking a trip there when we can!
What, Diane? No zipline? Hey Diane, if you're not going to zipline, go back to Canada! Just kidding, but you don't know what you're missing.
The pictures make me envious and I wish we'd had more time to go horseback riding on the beach and see Arenal so clearly. If it was up to Ariana, we'd be back there next week. Enjoy your remaining days there, but leave something to go back for.
It isn't a slam against anyone Me too. I was pointing out three incidences not judging you. I thought I explained that well enough in the post. I regret if the entry bothered you.
C'Mon.... I'm from Chicago, heading to Central America for the fifth time, and I think it really stinks that we are labeled and jumbled all together...We went to CR last year for the second and LAST time and were treated rudely (by numerour ethnicities, not the locals, but those that moved there from all over the world to also happily take our dollar). Mind you it was just my sister and I trying to go on our annual surf trip..We cause no commotion, raise no eyebrows and go with the flow. I am sorry but your blog irritated me because you are pointing out the ignorance of THREE Americans...Please understand that where ever you go, you may run into ignorance, no matter the person's culture. I have sure experienced my fair share of people being significantly rude to me, and they weren't Americans.
We are a Canadian family moving to Costa Rica for the 2007-2008 school year. We will be exploring discovering and understanding the Costa Rican culture, nature and how to surf! If you are wondering where in the world Nuevo Arenal is here is a link. Nuevo Arenal, Costa Rica http://www.travelblog.org/gmaps/map_49b.html
